  • That ending slide is absolutely killer bass tone.

  • I really wish they would remaster all of the original albums and do a big re-release. These are some of my favorite songs and my poor tapes are just worn out!

  • whos on the drums??

  • @bassman3294

    Doug Riley

  • @adkinsda wow so very young! thanks for responding

  • I agree, the best ever!

  • wheres waldo??

  • Agreed!

  • Brilliant arranging by Garry Jones!

  • I miss Ivan with them too :(. I prefer the old GC like this. I'm not saying he's still not marvelous, but I Love The Young Ivan Like This MUCH Better

  • rrr

  • i love this song! I got to hear Brian and Ivan do it last month!!:)

  • ivan parker doesn't look a day older today than he does in this video..

  • Jerry Ritchie was the original lead. Then in 1983 baritone Ken Trussell left and Jerry switched to baritone. Bill Crittendon filled in temporarily on lead until Ivan Parker came on board. Jerry Ritchie left Gold City in December 1985 when they moved from Georgia to Alabama.

  • I love gold city so much i love brian free tim rilley and ivan paker i dont know gary jones

  • Comment removed

  • i like both ivan and brian but brian free could have found a better bass than jeremy liyle his range isent that great and the best arrangment of gold city ever is johnathan wilburn, mark trammel, jay parreck, and of coarse the greastest of all bass singer tim riley

  • @hylesbarigton09 i guess you havent listened to Jeremy very often because he has a very good range. i have seen Jeremy Lile in person many times and he shakes the floors. He is very good. As christians we should be careful about the critical comments we post.

  • @bfafan1 you know how long ago i posted that???? right i dont either

  • 1 of the most unique Southern Gospel Quartets ever.CHEMISTRY!It's funny how all 4 of them are GREAT Quartet men.Man I could listen to those old gold city tunes all day & night. Thanks for playing them.

  • I love this!!! I wish more churches would still have Southern Gospel Singings!! I miss them soo much!!!

  • @VickiK1897 I think you would see more if the groups the claim to be a "ministry" would stop charging for concerts. Paul says he would gladly spend and be spent. When was the last time a gospel group spent and was spent to go sing? The vast majority want the church to spend and then the people to spend at their CD table afterwards.

  • Tim...........you are a beast!!!!!

  • haha your right im a young buck...but ive watched every video...i guess im just a huge jay parrack fan!

  • Brian and ivan are great but Jay and Jonathan are wayyyy better!

  • WHAT????? you must be a young buck..lol these 4 guys made goldcity what they are today. they set the bar high.

  • Man this song always gets me so pumped to see my Lord and Savior! Great song!

  • you dont get any better than brian free and ivan parker!

  • I could listen to this song all day long!!!

  • Yet another song written by the talented Sandy Knight

  • GC did quite of few songs that were written by Sandy Knight, including this one. She is a very talented songwriter, and if you become familiar with her work can easily pick out ones she has written. Not knowing a lot about music, I can just tell you that she has a certain style in her writing and I love it!

  • Why is Eddie Crook bopping around in the background?

  • He was part of the studio band for that TV show.

  • @sgmfan74 Because he was producer of the show and apparently couldn't stand to be behind the camera. Those strings sound awful. It would have been much better if he'd just let the Band of Gold do what they know how to do.

  • @sgmfan74 He's on Shoutin' Ground.

  • Gold City's the best! They just have class and stage presence like no other, not to mention the awesome voices. I've seen several groups in concert, including the Kingsmen and Cathedrals, and Gold City blows them away. The Kingsmen were like rednecks compared to GC, lol!!! I love SG music, and like lots of groups. And yes, Brian, Tim, Ivan and Mike WERE the best combo, but the newer groups have "it", too...the GC magic.

  • One of my favorites. The old group is much better than the new one. I remeber going to dinner with them when I was a teenager. They where so humble and nice

  • kingsmen...hamill, reece, maynard, phillips

    that's the ultimate quartet.

Ernie Phillips-the cleanest, purest, most real tenor that gospel music has ever had.

  • This is wonderful. Memories of my childhood...

  • id say some of the top groups would be

    Cathedrals- George, Glen,Danny, and Gerald

    Gold City-Tim,Wilburn,Trammel,Parrack

    Kingdom Heirs-Steve,Arthur,Bennet,Sutton

    The goodmans

i think the new lead of gold city sounds more like a gaither guy. like guy penrod or something like that. they lost a good lead ill tell u that

  • Is Mike Lefever related to Mylon Leferver? just wondering.

  • Yes, he is. Can't remember how.

  • I have an 1988 video of one of their concerts and never get tired of it since it has the same singers as are in this video.

  • One of Gold City's best songs. Back in the day they were very good.

  • for those saying gold city is the best sgq ever..

they r in the top 10, but not the best ever, gold city isnt even in the top 5 or 6..

cathedrals- george, glen, danny, mark, roger

    kingsmen- hamill, parrack, eldrige, ray

    blackwoods- james, jd, cecil, bill

statesmen- rosie, doy, hovie, chief, jake/jack

    hinsons- ronnie, larry, kenny, yvonne

inspirations- archie, troy, mike, eddie, martin cook

    in any order

  • I would replace the Kingsmen with Gold City. I've never gotten the infatuation with Ray Dean Reese. Tim showed him up in every version of Kings Gold.

  • Reese really was never that low. You are probably right in saying Riley is the better bass. The group as a whole, though, and their harmonies and the uptempo, old style singing they did rivalled or surpassed Gold City, which often for me was too country or contemporary sounding for Southern Gospel Quartet music.

  • You are sooooooooo wrong. Kingsmen NEVER were in the same class as GC.

  • not even Johnny Parrack era or Ernie Phillips era??

  • you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

I would say this group and the gc line-up in the mid-late 90's would both land in the top 5 of all time

  • @bennyferguson I agree!

  • Notice how nobody in this group is jumping around like an idiot trying to sell the song.

Just flatfooted, pin ya to the wall, quartet excellence!!

  • If this song can't make you happy, nothing will!

  • Does anybody know whatever happened to Mr. Garry "Taco" Jones?

  • Plz listen to Mr. Jeff Chapman sing their rendition of "Revive Us Again" first recorded on their Double live cd if yur blessed to know someone who has it. Then u will really know why he is truly the bass of basses!!!

  • One group surpasses them, that is the unconquerable, unquestionable unbeatable Anchorman!!!! WOW!!

  • They should have shut Gold City down after Ivan and Brian left. No offense to the current group, they are great guys, but when you know you have no chance at ever reaching this standard of excellence...move on and quit tarnishing the name.

  • I agree with the part that these guys were the best 'verion' of GC ever!! The newest group isn't bad either, but this WAS the best ever. I can't think of another group since that I've enjoyed as much. Wish they'd do a reunion of sorts before Tim passes off the scene. :(

  • I agree too. Brian especially made this group great. The new group just doesn't cut it anymore.

  • The BEST GCQ ever IMO.

  • Brian Free, Ivan Parker...WOW!!! Tim Riley was in his prime. One of the best (though not the best) GCQ ensembles of all time!

  • Who Is The Best?

  • Jay Parrack (lead); Johnathan Wilburn (tenor); Mark Trammell (baritone); and, of course, the inimitable Tim Riley (bass). Some other GCQ were close (the one with Brian Free as lead and Ivan Parker as Tenor) but I still absolutely love the former three with Tim as bass (was there any time he wasn't?)

  • Brian Free was the tenor, Ivan the lead.

  • Depending on the song...

  • I used to have this on tape, it's fantastic, every song.

  • This was Gold City at there Best They are Good now But they were Great with this group of Guys

  • Incredible, incredible, incredible.... these guys were the epitome of SoGo music. The best there ever was. I WISH people would post more of these videos. Can you imagine today having an 'all-star' tenor, lead, baritone, AND bass in one group?? This was it. Wish they hadn't all left like they did. :(

  • Great group...miss Ivan Parker singing with them.

  • Wow, Ivan Parker was a Gold City member!! I had no idea...

  • Yes, Ivan was the origional lead & the best they have ever had.

  • Ivan wasn't the Original lead singer for Gold City, they went back quite a few years before he joined. He was probably the Second or Third.

  • Jerry Ritchie was the original Lead, and stayed for two years I believe before Ivan came along.

  • i agree This Gold City is the best southern gospel group EVER!!!!

  • The best group ever!!!!!

  • Is that Eddie Crook playing second keys?

  • yes

  • This is Southern Gospel at it's best. No other quartet present or past, could ever compare to the original Gold City group.

  • I love this song!
