Hi Pawan ji, I am following you almost from 1 year and I have learned a lot from nothing in guitar. I mean I havn't v become a pro but when I play in front of my friends and family I get a lot of compliments and they get surprise knowing that I haven't took a single class for the same. u cud play the A chord style with 3 fingers fretting strings 2, 3 and 4 separately, i use my little finger to fret them together ...

It's great to see your reply. Thnx! I just knew open chords n I played songs without good strumming pattern.I am practicing for 1-2 hrs everyday with barre chords n strumming patterns since I came across ur videos.There is no shortcut to practice. bt rt nw, my upstrokes r barely audible. is it better 2use plucktrum or shud i practice just with fingers as u do? anything more u cud tell me abt practicing strumming?i wil refer 2ur online material if u giv me sm link. dont wanna trouble u a lot. :)

u shud use a plectrum or pick initially, u will need that when performing with other musicians or in front of large groups ... you can try with fingers later ...

hello Mr. Jalan. very nice video. I always have one question which troubles me. Is it ok to use open chords instead of barred chords. Secondly for Gmajor, i use a different form of chord(just one fret below, following the exact pattern as of Fmajor).IS it ok?

open chords are fine where u can play them, the main advantages with barre chords are the ease in transposing, and control they give you over all the strings for effects like muting ... not sure of ur question on G, cud u explain what one fret below means ??

i play Bb with a bar on the first fret, and my last finger fretting strings 2,3 and 4 on the 3rd fret. u can also use 3rd finger to do this, or u can play the traditional way using all fingers as given in most books. Gm is a simple barre chord, not sure why that's troubling you, r u not ok with barre chords ?

but really, there is nothing special with my style - i just hit the strings with all my fingers instead of using a pick - that's all there is to it - it just takes practice to get it rt, and get the rt quality and level of sound ...

The chord pattern for Bb is 1-1-3-3-3-1

Use first finger to set up the barre on the 1st fret

For strings 2,3,4 you can use fingers 2, 3, 4 respectively, or use 3rd finger to barre them (I used my 4th finger) -

You will find tons of great lessons on barre chords - just look for them :)

i am self taught myself, so i don't see why u cannot pick up on ur own. but it will be much faster if u can get a good teacher so u get ur basics right ..

u have to learn scales and chords side by side, most teachers will give u lessons on both ... if u plan to play lead, u really have to work hard on scales, but if u plan to focus on rhythm, u have to work harder on chords !!

there is only one suggestion, keep practising - and if u r finding it difficult with songs, get a keyboard, put on a slow drum beat and maybe chords accompaniment and play with it :)

the tricky change is really only from Bb to G - where u play the 1st D only on Bb, and move to G for the other strokes ...
