Aside from discussing the reasons AGAINST owning a hippo and parking it in the yard -which would make me odious and earn me a lot of insults- I WILL say that the song is a typical absurd novelty song.

I once asked for a Nintendo and the Sonic game, but I got other things instread. Some years later, I finally got to play the Sonic Game on the laptop - and could not get very far into level 2. Too difficult to hold onto game lives, etc. I'm glad I didn't waste my Dad's cash on that "game"
