i have a 34 year old d-35 martin i'll put it up against ANY thing..for clear rich tone..good guitars come from use..the more it played..the better it will ring...and of course..haveing a talant like dan dont hurt
I am quite certain that this is Dan's signature Martin guitar, the Dan Tyminski model. I have heard it right up close and it sounds really clean, even and powerful without that big boom on the bottom; a lot like Dan's 40's D28 Martin, but newer sounding.
This was written by Mark Lindsay and Keith Allison of Paul Revere and the Raiders. It appears on the Alias Pink Puzz album. It has become such a bluegrass classic that it has been attributed to many others, mostly Jimmy Martin.
dana has been doing guitars as well or better than martin for some time now. as evidenced by the amount of artists who are now sponsored by bourgeois. bryan sutton, rhonda vincent, cody kilby, ricky skaggs, the list goes on. martin was the benchmark for many years, and still makes a very fine guitar, but has been far surpassed in tone, clarity, and is equalled by many luthiers in structural quality. all you gotta do is open your mind and ears.
Dont get me wrong, I love Martins, but D-45s are crap. WAY too gaudie and so much inlay the sound is deadened. Bourgeois is one of the best builders in the country. All of their instruments are handmade, whereas martins are not anymore. A base model Bourgeois is better than anything being made by martin today.
Wow!!! If that is a Bourgeois I want one! That guitar will absolutely knock the door down! Part of it is Dan, but Jesus that guitar is killer! What a band. Dan is my Favorite Bluegrass singer going today!
I own two Bourgeois guitars, Custom Vintage D and a Country boy and they are killer, Dan owns a couple of Bourgeois but uses them mainly for recording and Dan is the Man!
Yah!!!! Amazing!!!

... Am I the only one who was expecting a Pete Townshend-esqu windmill strum from the banjo player during Dan's solo?

Sorry, but Dana don't do guitars of that standard. It's a high-end Martin of some sort, probably a D-45

This is just incredible...
I think he's playing a new Bourgeois guitar, but I'm not sure.
This groove is just so perfect and listen Ron's banjo tone. He makes it talk!

what kind of guitar is Dan playing? It does not appear to be his Herringbone, but it sounds awesome!
