You're probably right. But I was thinking from the position he was on the court, probably putting sidespin for control. With the larger racquets today I imagine players wrapping topspin on the ball to get it over the net instead of curving the ball with sidespin. Nadal does it as a lefty, the old banana shots as they used to call it.

Have you seen the ones I uploaded against Edberg, Muster and Kafelnikov?

Indeed. Also, I would loved to have known how much rpms Sampras got on this shot. It would have been great to get a measurement because the spin on this shot is absolutely incredible!

  • 0.54 is simply mind numbing...

    Holy crap

  • Man, look at the volley Becker pulled off and even still, Pete came up with this awesome shot. This was tennis at it's BEST.

  • I don't know if you noticed I have uploaded two identical clips where Sampras bends the ball around the net post in the corner. The other clip is aganst Edberg, from the same tournament in 1994. An identical 2nd serve, backhand return, almost identical volley and almost identical running forehand. Such a beautiful shot as well

Quite incredible. Many players hit it well but Sampras can hit them when well out of position, sometimes running away from the court - that's why his is so unique.
