Terrific tutorial. I'm guessing your base yarn was superwash, given how fast it took up the dye. I'm not sure I'd do that much stirring in simmering water with anything but superwash wool. Some fibers felt with very little agitation.
ps it is really fun to do this method with citric acid and wilton paste food colors. I got some amazing yarns, teals, purples, and blues. You do have to mix well! I diluted the colors in vinegar, then added water and citric acid. You have such a pleasant teaching voice unlike Moi! smiles, grace in VT
Dear Diana, I have a video on Koolaid not as nice as yours... but I may be able to help with the purples. First, your water may have minerals that shift the color, Use some distilled water and the grape Koolaid, add extra citric acid, and presoak your yarn over 20 min in vinegar/ water that is warm. The scales will open up better. Also I am a Knit pics fan.. I have not tried that Bare sock yarn, I wondered if it would be scratchy. So you think it is soft? PS I love harmony needles! Bless u,Grace
We did with my friend's granddaughter at a knit club meeting using the method on the Knit Picks website - with mason jars and the microwave. We also laid out small hanks on a plate and hand-painted them.
It's a hoot with kids. It does stain clothing.
No special treatment in washing - and it never fades noticeably.
Wonderful video! Looks like a great project to share with the kids, too. Is there any special care you need to give the yarn once it is knitted? Does the dye wash out over time? Thanks for sharing this video!

@hotdog1997 - I have used other brands like Flavorade, but make sure it's the kind where you have to add sugar. You don't want any sugar to wash out!
