  • I went here because of Dr. Sheldon Cooper's theremin.

  • Thumbs up if this is less than 6 steps from what you were actually searching for but clicked because it looked interesting.

  • Thumbs up if you are here because of "I Am Weasel" !

  • @chapchee Ever stood next to a rabbit ear TV and made the picture go fuzzy, then clear, then fuzzy, then clear again? I think that one antenna controls the pitch and the other the volume but I could be wrong.

  • increible, maravilloso!!

  • So that's how they made those weird noises back in the old alien movies...

  • incredible story

  • @chapchee Are you kidding me! you are balls deep in theremin videos right now. how is it possible you don't know what this is.

  • @chapchee The Theremin has a long history. Do your research.

  • cool very cool ... thanks ..

  • What a classic and wonderful performance.

  • WHAT IS THIS BLASPHEMY

  • @chapchee Foolish mortal! Bow to the telekinetically-powered musical superiority of Russia!

  • Epic is a gay word for this!

  • magic NIXUIA SEBE

  • his name is Termen, not Theremin

  • Its the salad fingers music!

  • He was kidnapped by the Russians and forced to build equipment that was used against the US.

  • BAZINGA!

  • ghost music thing

  • Very cool. The big bang theory introduced me to this instrument

  • @cannibalbananas Haha, same.

  • Thumbs up if Walk Hard brought you here.

  • Masterfully played, the voice of the Theremin takes on an operatic human character.

I have achieved similar effects on pedal steel guitar using an electromagnetic string exciter called the E-Bow. A neat effect when used tastefully.

The opera singer's part on Ennio Morricone's "Once Upon a Time in the West" I feel would make an excellent arrangement for the Theremin.

  • In Soviet Union, theremin plays you.

  • @madamerotten Yes, a VERY smart joke.

  • wich year is that ?

  • @prifterpan wait...this isn't porn?

  • For those... who don't have idea what music is and where can music reach and touch I would suggest that they should listen, study, try to understand the "how" and the "why" this man arrived to this amazing invension! I would also suggest not to express any opinion before you can make one!!!! This instrument is used today by great musicians and great composers.... I would suggest you also to learn something about the early beggings of cinema!!!! That' all "guys who think u know everything"!xaxaxa

  • 0:55 wankers cramp

  • 9 gag sends me. and yes, porn... for the ears!

  • Hahaa, never seen a better bullshit.

  • So amazing.

  • is this the godfather theme? cause it sounds like it

  • Press Control W for High Quality Sound

  • @MooX101 How does "Working Offline" make the sound quality any better? You must be confused.

  • WHAT IS DIS?????

  • Also looks cool while played..

  • I'm wondering why his volume antennae is facing forward. DOH!

  • coolest thing all week

  • its was named termenvox actually

  • that was beautiful actually

  • a alien violin *-*

    perfect

  • @Gadapaj

Funny i was just thinking how much it sounded like a violin! probably easier to play than a violin i imagine

  • @1977Mariachi I've never played a theremin but I've heard they're hard to play.

  • definitely wonderful!

  • @chapchee The comment directly above yours explains it all, but since it wasn't a reply to yours, I will assist the explanation. It's an instrument. Simple, really. I believe it was developed in Soviet Russia, but it may have been before then, if the apparent age of this video is any clue.

  • love XD

  • Wow!

  • The Big Bang Theory.

  • @necromander69 That is where I first heard the name, but I have always known its sci-fi sound.

  • все новое это хорошо забытое старое

  • <3

  • For those of you that are clueless, a Theremin is a musical instrument with electronic tone generation, the pitch and tone volume being controlled by the distance between the player's hands and two metal rods serving as antennas.

  • Where did his mouth go??

  • Lol I'm here because of the Simpsons 2 lol

  • October 30th, 2011 the simpsons brought me here!! milhouse's plays it.

  • Definitely here because of the Simpsons.

  • @NevsIive holy shit dead on.

  • @NevsIive 15X14 simpsons ! got me

  • wouldn't it be funny if the theremin was just an old practical joke...all an illusion

  • @lilfunker86 I think I know what you are getting at. You mean like, an old Hoax? Well, if that is the case, it clearly isn't given it's growing popularity. At least, I hope it's growing. It's too cool to pass up.

  • Why am I thinking of "Young Frankenstein"?

  • @MrDemoncrusher Probably because the theremin made it first Amrican film appearance in a Frankenstein film: 1935's "The Bride of Frankestein." Composer Franz Waxman utilized the theremin in the cue "Creation of the Female Monster" over the scene where the female monster is being brought to life. There is also a deliberate touch of parody as well, as the N-B-C tone is slyly quoted (in tribute to the lab electronics' resemblence to an RCA radio) and a zimblestern intro for the "bride."

  • Oh, Wow! This is awesome!

I would love to know, what was the very first thought this guy had, that led him down the path to creating and playing his vision of this! Amazing:)

    BOP

  • (Probs. a stupid question) Would this instrument be considered Electronic? :3 I'm doing some research to find the first song that used an electronic instrument, something like Acid House and Popcorn.

  • @DarkBallYE Well... yes.

  • @DarkBallYE Yes, the theremin is an electronic instrument. Leon Theremin invented it in the 20s -- yeah that's right, this particular electronic instrument in nearly 100 years old.
