Oh what could have been. If Senna was still alive back then and jumped into Indycars, he could have won at least one Indy 500 and a world championship with Penske. Imagine Senna, Emmo and Al Unser jr. all in the Penske stable, that could have been the ultimate 3-car team of that era.
Awesome video! Back when CART and F1 was awesome, especially cart before that dumb irl and now indy racing league shit..RIP Ayrton! I thank you for a bunch of beautiful sundays as a young child watching you race.
@ohiopower So could that be the missing piece of why Ayrton's car was sabotages and he was murdered in Italy? Because he was going to leave F1 for CART and F1 was afraid CART would win and F1 would fail?
Hey, I never said it was what happened... but it would explain why the in car camera and telemetry just seconds for before the fatal crash don't exist... He might have seen the death in testing the near death of Rubens and then said it was his last season.. Bernie being the greedy troll he is had Frank jack up his car... Never under estimate the power of greed.
God, why can't the new Indycar sound similar to this? The new car looks and sounds like crap. Just love that squealy turbo whine from the CART era V8s...
I want to Thank You for placing this video. I had heard about Ayrton testing a Penske car but I had never seen the truth. He is my favorite and I want to state again, Thank you. Going to Indy for decades, it would have brought both my passion for Indy and for Senna together. I have been to his grave twice and I am still wiping my tears for my love of the great Senna. Please post other videos, remember, some of us have not the best Portuguese. Still, thank you again and again
The split definitely caused the end. Champ Car racing was in the late 80's and early 90's was great. 1000 horsepower cars road races, street races 1 mile and 1.5 mile ovals, and, Super Speedways. The mix was awesome!!!
I'd kill to have an english version of this video. Really interested on his take on indycar.
Did he dig it and the motorsport itself specifically? Personally I love IndyCar. Although I greatly prefer road course events, the occasional oval is actually growing on me and I don't mind the split between the two these days.
IndyCars popularity and technology have dived in the past decade or so, but it's getting better. More people are watching and I REALLY dig the 2012 cars!
@rawrghblarghwaurgh The reporter says they arrived early on the track,Ayrton started learning things. Then inside the car he says there's nothing to comment,he has to try it before commenting anything. After driving he says that race cars are like drugs in his vein and that he was feeling that when the team turned the engine on to warm it and that it reminded him of old f1 turbo times and also emerson comments about ayrton joining indy in the future.Ayrton agreed. He seemed unhappy with F1.
I would have been awesome if Senna would have raced at Indy and in the states. Too bad he left us so early. My brother and I ran into Emerson at the Airport in Indy one year. We saw him sitting by himself playing with his iPad. We didn't want to bother him but we figured how often do you get a chance to talk to a racing legend all by himself. We asked if we could take a picture with him and he gladly agreed. He was a very nice guy.
it would have been interesting to see ayrton in one of the penske mercedes cars at indy in 94, apparently frank williams had given him the go ahead to go to indy in a 4th car that year
Emerson always open the doors to new drivers. In 1984 he brings his car to race in Nürburbring Circuit against actual and old World Champions. Every champion race a identical Mercedes 190C. Lauda, Prost, Jones, among others was there. Senna was the only rookie against all this great champions. He lost the pole against Prost. But the race was in wet. In the 3th. Lap Senna was leading and won, thanks to this opportunity. He was a genius.
@Dogman36 Ahem, but TC, AS, and LC had no place in F1 to begin with. Not all technological driver's aid add-on needs to be in an F1 car as all that gadgetry punishes the smaller teams without as deep pockets.
And I'm glad refueling was done away for 2011 too.
@swavgav31 Senna's lap was 0.6s faster than Emerson's lap. However as both stated, the circuit was too slow. Too small and too skinny. This really can't be measured. Senna probably would be faster than anyone in a real circuit though. If Mansell won 1993, Ayrton would've beaten him. Emerson was a lot older and a lot less agressive, of course 'cause of his advanced age and less reflexes. But still, 2 legends nonetheless. Indy would've been lots of fun to watch with them competing.
Fittipaldi invited Senna to test a Indy car with the aval of Penske Team. First Emerson did a few laps and said that the circuit was quites cold and it is a small one. Then it was Sennas turn. He used RIck Mears seat and went for it. Then they start to talk about the test.
well in ayrton senna's book it says 1993 and the reason his suit says honda is because at the start of the 1993 f1 season senna didn't have a drive. (senna wanted to go to williams but prost was there and wouldnt let senna be his team mate) and seems senna was at this time a free agent he was free to race/test in whatever suit he felt fit
@ChampCarforlife According to Emmo, Senna has scheduled to drive in Indy 500 in 1994, with a Penske ! That would be amazing ! Emmo said that this was a secret only known by Ayrton, Roger Penske, Emmo, and Frank Williams who gave the go !
@ChampCarforlife you are welcome. I am sorry, I forget to give the source. it was in the preface or the postface written by Emmerson Fitipaldi. (don't remember) in the book of Adrianna Galisteu,
