Man, I get so sad - actually, a bit angry - when I think how John let his chemical demons get the best of him. But no addict ever starts thinking he can't quit whenever he wants to, that thinks he can't handle it. But the really sad thing is here's a true rock star, survives the Woodstock era, the #27 club, all the drug madness of the '60s and '70s, is nearly 60 years old and THEN he croaks from a cocaine weakened heart while in bed with a groupie. As a lot of people say, it isn't all speed. And they're right. Entwistle often used melody in his playing, but his "5:15" solo often has no melody; it's fretboard gymnastics. A good bit of the notes are hard to hear for being so fast, but they are there. When people call him "over-rated' they often aren't looking at the bigger picture. He was a consistently amazing bassist, and has been of the highest calibre for his whole career.His contribution is unmatched.
