The problem with this car is that it's surprisingly unresponsive when you AREN'T flooring it. Something about Mercedes transmissions...especially with the 7 speed, there's often a terrible hesitation when trying to obtain more power out of the engine.
@dmontego522 It happens with these new mercs as well? I have a 2002 C320 and you have to go like half way with the trottle to make it move. If you just rub the trottle a little bit you get nothing. Once you floor it o pass half way its ok. My merc has a 4 speed automatic and it even hesitate to make a downshift when you floor it to take speed. Funny details
Yeah basically the real problem here is the electronic throttle control in these cars. Throttle lag in cars equipped with electronic throttles (which now includes pretty much all cars) is a common complaint. I think Mercedes may have been the first company to use this technology-companies like Toyota switched to it around 2003 I think. It's probably the worst thing to happen to the automobile.
@Mercman97 no, this is the current 268hp 3.5L. Next year's 2012 E350 variants (which dont go on sale until late this fall) recieve Mercedes' new 302*hp V6.
The BMW 535i and Audi A6 3.0T are the two fastest cars in the class and this car is only a couple tenths behind. 268hp is fine for this car if you ask me.
@LexusUSA1 , yeah me neither. As smooth and quiet as this powertrain is, it's no rocket. The acceleration is average for the class at best. Next year's E350 will have 300hp to (finally) keep up with the BMW, Infiniti, Audi, and Lexus V6 competitors.
@4MATICbenz Nice, nice. I've got an 02 Lexus LS and for the size and weight of it, It flies! What a fantastic car. Easily one of the most reliable and comfortable cars ever built. If youve never tested an 01-06 LS430, you're missing out
@LexusUSA1 , only Lexuses ive ever had experience with are the ES300, ES330, and ES350 models. Never driven an LS, but always here good things about them. I actually know a few former Merc S-class owners that drive LS430s and 460s.
@4MATICbenz Trust me the LS is a completely different machine. EVerything just seems to flow. No sports car, but it'll put most cars on the road today in their place, all while keeping you comfortable at the same time. If you ever have the opportunity to drive one, DO IT. Anyway, nice vids keep it up
