I actually need to disagree with what is said about the gnsher vs. sawed-off. You WILL get better using the sawed-off, but it will be mostly general skills and map awareness, instead of gun specialising (all you will learn is range, actives, and spread). However with a gasher the gun specialisation goes higher as you will learn range, actives, gib range, wall bouncing (as it applies to the gnasher) and also accuracy (as the sawed off has the spread to help with this).
I generally start the games with the hammerburst from a distance then if my team gets ahead go patrolling with the retro up close to mop up the last kills before the enemy can form a tight defense
@Displace77 Nahh man the only AR in the retail with a head shot mod is the lancer.. The hammerburst definitely did have a modifier in the Beta though. I guess these gears of war 3 lessons kinda jumped the gun a bit.
This video is dumb the lancer has so much ammo that you can beat the people reloading their guns to the kill. Lancer is the best , use it with the gnasher.

@Falling2Grey29 depends on the situation. I typically reload as fast as possible, but if I'm in a position far enough from enemy players with a good line of sight, I'll use actives.
@Falling2Grey29 A really good scenario when chosing a quick reload over an active one is when you've downed someone but you're out of ammo. The quick reload on the hammerburst is probably the fastest reload in the came unless you hit your active on a pistol or something, so combined with a quick trigger finger, you can really put a lot of rounds that actually hit, downrange.

let's not beat the bush about the hammerburst. If someone has a rapid fire mod on the highest level with relatively no recoil, it would be difficult to take someone out with it if they spam it like crazy..
for everybody's information cliffy-B already said they tweaked the retro lancer, were if you hipfire it kicks like a mule and it goes right up to the ceiling, so it not cheap anymore

I completely disgree with what you said about the regular lancer not being able to fend off shotgunners, its got excellent damage when you factor in headshots, possibly the best stopping power and the largest clip which allows you to take down multiple people at once as opposed to one per clip with the hammerburst.
sawed off is being illuminated in full game also the lancer is buffed while the retro is made less acurate with hipfire.thrashball is going to be remodeled to prevent camping. Cliff announced with sark at e3.
didnt get many chances to play it but I normally used the hammerburst along with either shotgun, I dont believe the saw off is that OP actually if either of the two new beginning weapons is OP its the retro not the sawn off.......
My favorite combo by the end of the beta was Gnasher and Lancer. I like the Hammerburst sometimes too, but the Retro is just cheap and I'm not even going to grant the Sawed-Off a mention.
@AutoPsychotic I agree, the Lancer/Gnasher combo is tried and true. I think a number of people underestimate Lancer Actives, something I discuss in my upcoming Respawn video.

@babattaja ? If you watched this video, the person you should be asking this question to is @skyllus I do not do the lesson series videos. I personally use Lancer/Gnasher because the Hammerburst was banned at MLG events. I personally think that newcomers to the game should use the Lancer, the Hammerburst takes some time to get used to and it's better to acclimated to using versus the Lancer. Hammerburst is the most effective rifle when used correctly.
@action937 More mobility and easier to aim with Retro up close. Hard to keep up with a close range opponent while holding L-Trigger. Shotgun is just a matter of preference, I've gotten used to using hip fire.

There's no other way to kill them in a shotgun battle up close, except if your lucky and they miss the shot. Right now the Retro and the DBS are the best counters to the Gnasher which wrecked in the older games. So a lot of people who favored the old Gnasher aren't going to be happy by Epic balancing the game to even things out. Perhaps the blindfire on the Retro could do with a nerf but it does it's job very well now.
Stop shotgunners while being useless against another rifle at range. You still want it to be able to mow down someone trying to wallbounce or get up close with a shotgun with ease.
@awexsome2034 damn that makes me sad, no epic exciting shotgun duels nemore lol. that gun amounted to 70% of my kills and the rest was just power weapons like torque and sniper or whatever.

Because I find myself not having enough ammo to finish off the kill most of the time, and I would have to reload...which means that there is a window that gives your teammates enough time to steal your kill...just a little problem =]
@OurenV2 Correct. GoW1 was on circuit 2007+2008, GoW2 was on in 2009. We aren't sure if they will pick up GoW3 yet, but a lot of the same guys still play and have been on the beta.
@geckomaster25x its really not hard to ignore them. you can tell if someone uses the dbs so stay away from cqc. Also, cover is your friend in GoW3, so use it! you'll quickly outsmart those retro blind firers -.-
@Rane1406 You have to be more careful with cover in this one and my problem with the dbs comes with the amount of smoke grenades used in gametypes like KOTH, you can't tell they have it till it's too late.
@Rane1406 I have no problem with DBSers for some reason. I've always been the cover/support guy in GoW. You just have to remember that rushing in will only get you killed in Gears 3 so if you see shadows in the smoke, by all means shoot into it but dont go into it!
I don't understand why epic made a beta where unexperianced players are actually better than skilled players. Maybe its part of the franchise business but overall I think that they should take off the retro and sawed-off from multiplayer.
Maybe it just me, but I really like the DBS. I use it often and get plenty of kills with. I feel many people use the DBS wrong, and treat it like a Gnasher. Its a "Hit-N-Run" weapon. For me, I like it for TDM, but overall the Gnasher is more well rounded gun. I don't think DBS good for n00bs tho, cause you have to get real close to the enemy for it to be effective. As for Lancer/Hammer/Retro, depending on how the match is going, I will constantly switch my load out rifle.

@killswords Pretty much have to see them coming and do damage before they are right in front of you. Otherwise, getting in close for a one shot is the way to go (Easier if you happen to have a DBS on you).
@mherr1ck Play a ton, watch a bunch of gameplay from the pro players to get an idea of how your movement should be, then go play a ton more. It's a fun game once you get over the learning curve, nothing else quite like it.

Right now the Retro and the DBS are the best counters to the Gnasher which wrecked in the older games. So a lot of people who favored the old Gnasher aren't going to be happy by Epic balancing the game to even things out. Perhaps the blindfire on the Retro could do with a nerf but it does it's job very well now.
Stop shotgunners while being useless against another rifle at range. You still want it to be able to mow down someone trying to wallbounce or get up close with a shotgun with ease.

@awexsome2034 damn that makes me sad, no epic exciting shotgun duels nemore lol. that gun amounted to 70% of my kills and the rest was just power weapons like torque and sniper or whatever.

Hammer Burst and Gnasher is what I use
I think they should extend the clip for the hammer burst
Because I find myself not having enough ammo to finish off the kill most of the time, and I would have to reload...which means that there is a window that gives your teammates enough time to steal your kill...just a little problem =]

@OurenV2 Correct. GoW1 was on circuit 2007+2008, GoW2 was on in 2009. We aren't sure if they will pick up GoW3 yet, but a lot of the same guys still play and have been on the beta.

@geckomaster25x its really not hard to ignore them. you can tell if someone uses the dbs so stay away from cqc. Also, cover is your friend in GoW3, so use it! you'll quickly outsmart those retro blind firers -.-

@Rane1406 You have to be more careful with cover in this one and my problem with the dbs comes with the amount of smoke grenades used in gametypes like KOTH, you can't tell they have it till it's too late.

@Rane1406 I have no problem with DBSers for some reason. I've always been the cover/support guy in GoW. You just have to remember that rushing in will only get you killed in Gears 3 so if you see shadows in the smoke, by all means shoot into it but dont go into it!

I don't understand why epic made a beta where unexperianced players are actually better than skilled players. Maybe its part of the franchise business but overall I think that they should take off the retro and sawed-off from multiplayer.

Maybe it just me, but I really like the DBS. I use it often and get plenty of kills with. I feel many people use the DBS wrong, and treat it like a Gnasher. Its a "Hit-N-Run" weapon. For me, I like it for TDM, but overall the Gnasher is more well rounded gun. I don't think DBS good for n00bs tho, cause you have to get real close to the enemy for it to be effective. As for Lancer/Hammer/Retro, depending on how the match is going, I will constantly switch my load out rifle.

@ixprozix They are updating it over time. Sometimes things bug out and everything is unlocked, but I think KOTH+Old Town go live today. Capture the Leader next week.

@killswords Pretty much have to see them coming and do damage before they are right in front of you. Otherwise, getting in close for a one shot is the way to go (Easier if you happen to have a DBS on you).

@mherr1ck Play a ton, watch a bunch of gameplay from the pro players to get an idea of how your movement should be, then go play a ton more. It's a fun game once you get over the learning curve, nothing else quite like it.

@mherr1ck No, don't watch the "pros". You will be turn out exactly the same as all other "pro" players, who are indistinguishable from one another, and not for the right reasons. Just play the game a LOT. You will learn yourself without being spoonfed what the "right" way is. I've been doing that since Gears 1 and I consider myself a good player. Something these "pro" vids will NEVER show you is how to be a team player and ACTUALLY REVIVE YOUR TEAMMATES. It seems to mean nothing to the "pros".

@mherr1ck Oh another thing, SKyllus promotes that you watch "pro" videos to get better, and then demonstrates some of the most pathetic techniques like hip fire retro which is fantastic if you want to be a total cheap player. He also stole kills in a LOT of the clips. That's not something I would try to emulate...

@UnFathomableVideos whoa you're quite angry. The game is based on "team" tactics, we have it kind of ingrained to shoot players that are down from playing in scrimmages and LAN events. The video is "weapon of choice" and he is only displaying how each weapon can be used. You obviously have your own perception, this is Skyllus.
