i was in the first line which was the kids and womens line and the second one is the middle and the last one is the heavy or strong mens line. i went there yesterday and it is 2650 ft because i remember the lady saying it and there is a dock now so its cool and its in hati not near the devistation
i just came back off freedom of the seas like today :P,
went on this around 2 weeks ago, and i would say its worth the money,
told you to do a star fish sorta shape so you dont go as fast because it was windy, but though nah fuck that ive paid 80 dollars for this and went down in a torpedo like shape :P
$5 million was spent to make this. I was in Haiti doing aid work in June 2007 and our last day we came here to snorkel, which I'll admit was fun. We were all in disgust to think so much money was wasted on something that could have been used for the country. From my understanding, not much of the money made in Labadee goes to Haiti. The zip line does look fun, but the money could've been used for a better cause.
During fiscal years 1995 to 2003, the U.S. (taxpayers) gave Haiti more than $850 million in direct bilateral assistance. I think Royal Caribbean paying for this for their guests (@ $70 per ride) is just fine with me. And our Haitian guide @ Labadee claims that Labadee (a private resort) accounts for 90% of Haiti's economy. They're already doing more than most. Wouldn't you agree?
No need to get disgruntled, I'm only using what knowledge was given to me, and that was from the dude that worked there.
He was taking us around a bend to some private beach and when the zip-line came into view he said it was the longest in the world over a body of water and cost $5 million to make.
Please don't say you know I'm talking out of my ass when you actually don't, and I'm not even doubting that you did work on it. It is my fault though, I didn't clarify in the original post.
They start you out on a lot smaller zip line to get used to it. everything is the same but a lot smaller. I had to drop the camera down because I had to grab the bar above my head(they tell you to do grab it at the end). Also I had to lift my feet up so they didn't hit the landing dock.
Thanks! I was thinking of somehow tying it across my chest or stomach so that I don't have to hold it. You got great footage by the way - I've seen others that wavered all over the place. This is really good, but it scared me at first since it looked like you crashed when you landed!!! Looks like SOOO much fun - can hardly wait!
I did the same thing just last week. Used the same technique. Got to the bottom and was so shocked by the jolt that I forgot to stop record. The guide grabbed my camera from me to take a still picture of me. Screwed the whole video attempt up. I was soooo bummed. With your permission, is there any way I can include your video of the zip line ride in my home DVD to commemorate the trip? It was a great ride - I was just sooo disappointed that the video didn't work.
such a fun zipline... if you find yourself in Labadee, it is a must to try.

I did a zip-line like this today in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was nowhere near as long but it was fun while it lasted.

When i was at Labadee they were still building the zipline. I guess I have to plan another cruise with RC. This looks like fun. The view is amazing.

I would agree... I found about that a while ago... the original post was a sort of 'heat-of-the-moment' kind of post.

Doing this in a couple of weeks. Planning to shoot video as well. Did you get to zip on more than one line? Why did you drop the camera?

Did you hold the camera or strap it to yourself somehow? I am doing this this fall and i am wondering how to tape it!

I held the camera in my hand using the strap that came with the camera. You will have a blast.
