Lets look at the facts shall we? From my understanding not even ONE Landmark Leader or "coach" has a PHD or any credible education or background in phycology, counselling, mental healt etc.... everything is scripted by commanders. I let these people into my girls head and when she “introduced” me to Landmark and I declined, she declined on our relationship 2 years ago. Beware, if you need to release the past hurts and pain, do it one on one with a PROFESSIONAL!
to each man there own, and you come across as a victim, you look very much in your head, you possibly get gratification by enrolling the internet in your story, you could go on and on and you do .. you are entitled to your opinion, and your thinking is very limiting, you pigeon hole others with your word perhaps. your context is what creates, so go create something else besides gum flap.. cheers mate .. love ya..
@MrJaimeDean I agree, I do process a lot in my mind, but I think it is interesting you use the term "enroll" when referring to my actions. This is definite Landmark speak. So something has gottent through.
Not my experience at all. Yes there is terminology used in the LF as would be expected in a seminar, but the reality is some of the words (like integrity, possibility, etc.) are examined in a new way, and their use tends to be so spot on that people LIKE them and maybe use them too much. I tend to avoid "Landmark jargon" nor do I belong to any "cult" but the LF was mind-blowing, and maybe that scares people. Also, I saw people (inc. me) going in and out the doors for the restroom w/o a prob.
i'm enrolled in it at the end of september. my cousins introduced me to the bastard child of werner erhard that is landmark education. this video helped me confirm some of my suspicions. thank you.
I would not go to any function that tries to refain you from going to the restroom. That is just plain unhealthy. Also, not allowing note taking? What the hey is that about?
@msbeachboard Thanks for your comment. When I asked why I could not take notes, I was told that it was not the way the system worked. When I told the lady leading the forum that I was a visual learner, and I learned best by doing so, she responded - "well, that is only your perception". Odd, isn't it?
this program is not for everybody. you have to be willing to have your point of view challenged and you have to be emotionally strong. i, personally, loved it. but, again, if you are not a strong person and can't confront your life, do not attend.
I found this video extremely helpful and eye opening. My personal opinion about the Landmark Forum has now been transformed from opinion to reality. I have been dating a man for several months who is a member of the Landmark Forum. He is unable to express himself without bring up Landmark. Last night during a telephone conversation I mentioned about joining Landmark. He told me that he felt that it would bring us closer together. I ask myself "what's wrong with this picture?"
Thank you bradbavarde for taking the time to make this thoughtful video. A friend has invited me to the intro -- and I might go -- but just mostly test my strength to stick to what I feel and believe. I have met 4 people who were "landmarkers" -- my friend who seems a wonderful and warm person, another seems so but has sides that disturbed me deeply, another of whom I was uncomfortable from the start, and another whose "vibes" disgusted me. Two of these people lived with me 4 months. Thanks!
Thank u4 an honest review..a cult like any other that will make you feel crap at the beginning only 2 build you up. 1 course may be 2 many if u are not prepared 2 rock your world. If in a relationship, do not do this journey alone. Ironically Landmark wants you to take control of your life whilst controlling you. Best 2 seek yr inner counsel /Personal development courses if you want to create change. Money is irrelevant compared to the real price u pay!!
I lost close friends to this awful cult. I went along to the open evening to be there to support my partner who had just completed her graduation.......or so I thought. I soon realised they only wanted the graduate's loved ones there to get them to enrol too. I was whisked off to a separate room with other naive people and was subjected to their hard sell.
A wise psychotherapist friend once said to me "If you want to develop yourself, everything you need can be found in a £10 self help book".
@bradbavarde....Sorry you had an unpleasant experience with the Landmark Forum. Everyone has their own experience during the weekend, even in the same Landmark Forum. 94% of the participants who were independently surveyed said the Landmark Forum made a profound and lasting difference in their lives. The ability to fully express love for the people in thier lives is one of the biggest thing most people report getting out of the experience.
I found your review quite odd. The whole idea of Landmark is to stop making assumptions based on your previous experiences. Your final comments were all based on assumptions as to what you "thought" might happen to those you met through the forum. Did you actually do the course? Most of your commentary was completely at odds with what happens at the forum. I have experienced more "brainwashing" and "manipulation" at church on Sundays than at Landmark.
@evas99 Well, I did the whole course, and yes I agree that just as much manipulation can take place in Religion as through Landmark. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide the best path. I just have decided not to place my faith in Landmark for the reasons I stated, but I don't think I ever said that it did not help some people.
I have had nothing but good experiences with these programs. There are things that I don't like, but they are far outweighed by the negative. This gentleman is speak also from only having done one course, but I guess it can't work for everyone. I am sorry it did not work for him. I express myself very well without using any Landmark jargon.
I had a client who was a spokesperson for the forum who allegedly "paid" for me to attend because i wasn't convinced.I got through the first day, and on the second day, in the afternoon, I realized it was BS and left.To me, it just seemed like one big sado-masochistic love fest.Certainly not my thing. Thanks for your nuanced impressions.
Thanks for your honest perspective. this group is seems to be basically Dianetics without the Alien undertone. Does Landmark forum use E-meters or is it just the talk therapy? I had a strange run in with an old classmate who was acting bizarre and cultish. Glad I did some research before I let them lock me in a room and to help me "self explore".
Truer words have never been spoken. I applaud your bravery. And God has blessed you with an observant eye and a discerning spirit. Take care and rest assured that you have done a good thing.
I'm puzzled. An acquaintance of mine was a tracker who got tired of having to pay money to landmark. She doesn't question the underlying principles however. She says they taught her how to look at alternative sides of issues and to be skeptical. She has some pretty radical healthy views that go against mainstream media but I can't see how Lanmark could have taught this.
Could someone PM me some course curriculum? Basic themes and examples?
Hey Brad, Thanks for sharing your comments on the Landmark Forum. I personally loved it and loved the blank canvass that was created by the Sunday evening. I felt powerful and felt that I could create whatever I wanted in life. I've since created a full time time business in what I'm passionate about - teaching people to dance. I'd only gone into the Landmark Forum as a "refresher". My life was fine, I just wanted motivation. And it was so much more transformational than that!
I've done LM (ILP) and been on staff in Scientology - totally different. Whole lot more love in LM, for sure. For me, my life was a train wreck. Now it isn't. If my friends don't want to go in, that's cool. It worked for me, I thought it could do the same for them. I don't ram it down people's throats. They can think whatever they like about LM, I know that it helped my life in so many big positive ways but I had to go through some heavy stuff to come out the other end. And I'm grateful for it.
Thank you for you words of wisdom! You were straightforward and honest. I have no interest in such personality changing "gatherings". I hope others will see your video.
I saw this video before taking the course and I am reviewing it now. What I listen on the background is a complain and a fear. What he shares is what it meant to him. You will find that the story change by the teller of the story . This course is a personal experience and is very different listened by a mouth or a book of someone else. My share is that I am now "aware" of things that I didn't even consider before.
@monchi901 Well, without all the Landmark jargon, what you are saying is everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right? Just understand, friend, that Landmark did not allow you to think any differently from your capacity prior to your experience. They just told you how to put new words to it, and said it came from them as wisdom. You should be fine as long as you trust yourself.
Love your honesty. I can imagine that some people might get a lot of The Forum. I haven't been, but I have read many peoples experiences and unfortunately some people have been adversely effected.
I always come by here and the discussions are really interesting!
One of the things I would like to add too is that they did push me really hard to get me to bring in people I know - my family, the people at my job/boss. I kept away all of them. They always say "bring people or you are not going to progress".
The strange thing is that the existential attitude I got from the Forum did leave me feeling pretty lonely after a while.
imho that loneliness is why some people get depressed from it
@transfixedtornado That is a very interesting observation. You know that most of the critical comments I have received from Landmarkians have attacked me personally by saying that I must be lonely and sad for having made these videos. The fact could not be further from the truth. Perhaps they are projecting their own negarive attitudes?
BTW - thanks for disabling "thumbs up/thumbs down" - it's interesting how every single comment containing even a "hint" of critical thought about the LE organisation, their strategies or their content gets mass voted down by unidentified users- it's really like totally killing free speech.
That alone stinks so bad that I sometimes feel sorry for ever having defended the thing as something that actually gave me a new perspective.
Thank you so much! someone explained to me what they do at this forum, when I heard "you are not allowed to take notes" my alarm bells went off: no sir, you let me do what I want. maybe I have the "authority" problem that you have, but I am fine with that. actually it is my intuition that I trust the most. thank you. second big thing: I hate monitors, i hate them! third...one thing is helping, another is manipulating, from what you say, they are manipulating people. I have courses too, but ...
I was saying, I give courses too about teaching. I teach teachers, but I have no hierarchy, so to say, it means that if you want to take level 1 , you go for it. if you want to go to level 6, you don't have to go through all the others in between. that's another red bell for me. this sounds like a good game because people don't open their eyes...the eyes of the mind. thank you for reading and sharing.
I ma not sure I'll go to this forum, I might get angry at these techniques... :)
you finaly fall sleep around 4:00 am and wake up at 6:00 am to have breakfast, take a shower, get ready and drive to the place, hopefully you are not too far or dont get stock in traffic. Fortunatly you get there 15 minutes before they start. The whole process happens again for second day, you are exhausetd at the same time restless, you are not you, you are experiencing somthing you have not experienced before. Do you call this education? keep reading....
I was confused, scared and disfunctional for a whole week, It took me some time to recover and come to my sences. I dont want this happend to anyone else. What realy bothered me more than anything with landmark was that they do any thing to make a marketing tool out of every single one of us no matter how miserable they make us.
So it is 2:00 am and you are trying to get some sleep, but it is realy hard, there is so much new stuff in your mind, you are thinking about all the sad stories you heard from other people, father rapind daughtr, mother leaving son behind in orphanage, middle age lady who is
attending for second time to achieve financial sucess but didnt work first time so she thought maby she didnt pay attention in first forum...keep reading....
Homework is writing a letter to a some one that you had some emotional problem, like your dad who past away or your ex-wife or husband, or a sister or brother. It realy take you some time to come up with some idea and if you realy want to write a letter at all, but you must, this is a way to become a better human being, so far all ok, not that bad, so after so much struggle you finish the letter & try to get to sleep because you have to be there at 8:00 am. It is around 2:00 am already.....
Just htink about it, you start 8:00 am in a very crowded and uncomfortable chairs, you are asked no to leave during the session and hold on till break, you can not take any not ( not allowd), then experience starts, evry couple of hours there is 10 minute break and a 30 minute break for lunch, I might not be exact with the break time. your day ends around 11:00 pm and you get to do some homework to do at home and must have it ready for next morning at 8:00 am keep reading next......
Basically what you learn in land mark in 2-3 staright 12 hour gathering is that you dont have a life, so they give you new meaning for everything, their material is from all over the world, pieces of world religions and philosophy put all together in a melting pot and they sound good, all that can be found in self help sextion of any book store. All these new ideas and new way of looking at the life is pushed into you like without having time to think about any of it.
Thank you for sharing your experience, I have had similar experience. What I experience in so called forum what that first "you dont have a life and thats why you are here" second "if you dont act as a marketing tool for landmark, it means you dont want to change you life to better "
They encourage you or better said force you to make phone calls, as many as you can, no matter who you call, it could be your family member, old friend, ex-wife or husband, and so on, let them know how happy U R.
This man is brave enough to come out and explain exactly what is wrong with this Cult. I came across them in 1991 - yes 1991, in Leeds England. I beat them - didn't pay a penny to them but lost a friend. They are failed Scientologists and equally evil. They will try to strip you of your personality and your wallet. When I refused to get involved - my former friend became highly abusive. I've not seen him since around Xmas 1991. I may be an arrogant individualist - but that is what saved me
Leave these weirdo's alone - dont touch the Forum. I beat these wankers in 1991 didn't I Danny Spicer. They have been flogging the same shit for decades, based on Scientology only without the aliens, these dangerous people will bleach your mind and eat you from the inside while taking your wallet. I may be arrogant and an explosive personality and a difficult person to live with - but it was these very talents that saved me from these cunts.
is a matter of fact, at the end of the seminars. you could take it into many ways. you could get a different outcome from the same speach. your friend that took it her way and began to be more cold, took it the wrong way. yes they said that humans are like machines that our strongsuites and rachets are our gears, nuts and bolts and nicknacks of our being. yes they do say that life has no meaning. and of course they say much much more. what they were talking about is that life had no meaning to
wow.....you have confirmed everything I thought that LANDMARK would be about. i have a co-worker who has joined LM and she is totally different now....she's cold...thats the only way to describe her...COLD!
Well, but what she will probably say is that that is only your perception (your story) that I am cold. I actually better than I have been in years. So he has a story and so does she. What is it about the relationship that can open up if she doesn't see what he sees?
I acknowledge that I am too more often articulating a set of possible outcomes about events in the near future. For me, these are arising automatically from my past experiences and sounded logic. For most part, this is simply the way as a human being. There is nothing wrong with that.
So people feel alienated in their day to day life because of how capitalism regulates our lives and makes us feel unconfident and unable to perform. How do we cure it? By paying large amounts of money to a private not-really-psychologically-valid (by transparent professional standards) profit making company? Does this COMPANY have any corporate social responsibility that it has to live up to?
My brother and mother are very involved with this and i agree with everything this man has said. They aren't the same, in fact, my brother now thinks more highly of this then his own family and it has ruined our relationship greatly and it is also ruining the relationship I have with my mother. Please be careful if you take this forum. My brother and i used to be best friends...now? landmark has changed him and my mom for the worse
I'm sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, I have had many messages that are similar. Myabe they will come around after the "high" of the experience has passed.
Good to see this video. My wife and I were both solicited by a drone at work today. Not only was I driven nuts...but I lost out on fifteen minutes of work time listening to this tripe.
Maybe landmark is not good for people who are too suggestable... but good for people who have an understanding of who they are and what direction they want to go in life. can see how it might not be good for someone who isn't clear already on who they are and looking for someone to lead them
but think its good for people who are leaders wishing to develope themself and reflect on themself further.
it is just so sad that people looking for meaning are conned that there is no meaning and then are manipulated into shelling out more cash and more time to pursue meaninglessness
I grew up the son of a trainer. From early childhood to my twenties I was immersed in est/landmark. And got the same treatment/lingo at home. Later as a young adult I found out about some personal indiscretions on my fathers part throughout the years. To come from such a seemingly righteous person that my father presented to everyone it was/is hard for me to deal with. Infact, I am still trying to figure out if growing up around it caused me more harm than help.
Im always amazed by the comments landroids leave, cant they see they are talking bullshit? So deluded and brainwashed, just shows some people dont want to think for themselves.
these gronks pressured me into signing up even after I said no at least 20 times! I feel so pissed off after being guilted into signing up!!!!!!! Im gettin my money back - ASSHOLE LANDMARKIANS MUTHAFUCKAZ!!!
phrostphil: At least you learned a good lesson for the future. No is no. If someone "won't take no for an answer" that's when you go to the next level. If I for example started getting calls from Landmark I'd tell them no. If they didn't stop I'd say "I told you no last time. And I mean it. And I don't want any more calls from you. If you call me again I'm going to call the police." It is against the law to call if you're told not to call anymore. I might also send them a letter confirming this.
Also, the description very much resembles original EST by Werner Erhard, that I underwent - the course leader tried to implement a idealism/value-nihilist standpoint, but since I'm a natural adversary, it instead made me reject that idealism/value-nihilist standpoint that I had before. That was my first and last experience with the Erhard line of Dianetical Cultism.
This sounds like a pretty low effective cult. These conflicting messages are of course a way to confuse and vulnerablize to cult implementation of a cult personality, but it seems they are too fast with the confusement process.
it's not that you are critical that makes you immature it is the way you express your opinions as if they are the truth. Your experience is valid as an experience and I respect that but don't couch yourself as some sort of authority. This has nothing to do with landmark by the way it relates to any criticism communicated this way.
By the way surely you can't possibly be threatened by what I am saying. That would be very strange!! And I apologise if you are... certainly not my intention
Well, if you interpret that I am expressing my opinions as truth, that is your subjectivity. I don't believe I have ever said that I am an authority or denied that Landmark does not helps some people. Of course I am not threatened, I just don't understand why you and others like you need to "label" criticism as being imature (or some other perjorative term), just because it is critical of Landmark. And by the way my experience is reality, just as a victim of any trauma.
And by the way, you may be interested to know that Werner Erhard once had the audacity to tell a Holaucoust victim that her experience in the camps was not real, just her "reality" that she was responsible for. What's that about?
As a commentator said earlier you always have a choice in life and that you are expressing views as if that choice was taken away from you is real ignorance. Your experience is be valid, I don't deny you that, to make the kinds of sweeping statements being made here as if your experience is some kind of reality is mindblowlingly immature.
I am always amazed that Landmarkians will label anyone who is critical of Landmark as being immature, lonely, or inauthentic. If someone is critical of something I think is important, such as Eastern Orthodoxy for example, I respect the right of the otther to have that opinion without being threatened or labeling the other person as having something wrong. This says a lot about how "authentic" these Landmark people really are...
I am rather afraid. I work for a company that has made this forum mandatory! I cannot afford to lose my job so I cannot decline. The company has actually paid for me. Do you have any suggestions on how to counteract this while I sit through it?
Yes, I have had messages sent to me expressing similar situations in which an employer made the forum a "mandatory requirement", I suggest you read the comments and watch the documentary. Also, don't take it too seriously. When you feel you are being controlled by the rules, rebel (you are an adult after all); take notes, use the restroom when you want, choose where you want to sit, pay attention to the times when they start spinning speach that is totally incomprehensible.
Con't. as this is designed to control your thoughts. Also, don't loose your critical thinking skills. At the beginning, watch for people who come forward that are very articulate and say they are already being changed (these are plants). Some of the stuff is good, but most is crap. Please send me a personal note to let me know what you thought!
I wonder how many of you actually sit around talking about it being a cult instead of actually going and seeing for yourself! Seriously, get out of your heads and what you think and feel about the landmark and go make your own decision after attending a course. You'll never know till you try.
Well, yes, I did do the whole forum. I never would have made these videos had I not had first hand experience. Most of the people that have commented have also done the forum.
I just got back from the forum and walked out right when they started spewing the "your life is meaningless" bullshit.
It just didn't make me feel right when they were sharing that...The sick thing is that people were having "breakthroughs" as all this stuff was being shared...
The whole conclusion you make about leaders...and their inability to express themselves emotionally and emphatically is so true...I was also really wierded out by as well.
i agree with all three of your points.... its been a week now and im still deeply disturbed. I think i can sum up my feelings with the lyrics of a song " my body is MY body, MY body is NObodys body but MINE! i feel personally feel violated.
i have just completed the forum.... it is one of the most perculiar states of mind i have had. I was ellated last night and even signed up for teh next course ( i paid but am now deciding not to attend $600 lost).i spent the morning doing background research which has caused me great concern. I am thankful for the strength i gained and conversations i had whilst attending the forum but for the weak willed you could get sucked in by its cult like atmsophere. Please be very very very cautious.
Its very true what you said about how it changes people. I knew a friend several years ago who did it. Afterwards, all he would do is try to recruit more, even offered to pay for people to do it, so they could experience the wonders of it. My instincts knew something was very wrong and this was no longer the friend I knew. All he cared about was recruiting, no longer wanted to hang out, just wanted to recruit and be with his new Landmark associates.
LE rips "Truths" from religion/science etc..totally twists it , covers it up with nonsensical, militaryesque tactics...so that when they finally "reveal" to you their big secret..that nothing means anything..you are making it all happen..you eat it up...
The only 'good" things about LE, are ripped from other organizations, and philosophies...that's what makes it so hard for people to reject it totally...they think they're also rejecting what's "true" that LE preaches...
That is the most powerful kind of poison..think about it, if you had a problem with ants in your house, putting out poison alone would do nothing--maybe kill a couple, but they catch on quickly...the best way to kill them is to MIX the poison in their food..it wipes them out!
Very well said.....I did it a few years ago here in Australia. I had a physical, mental and emotional breakdown afterwards and had to learn to read, write and speak again....I say do what you want but I think its a very dangerous company.....
Very good video. Thanks for the inside. I went to the INTRO forum and I had exactly the same impression that you had. If someone offers it for FREE I might be tempted. Overall I think is a well disguised SCAM.
Brad, I really appreciate your very honest words about your experience. Someone has been working on me for YEARS to go......but it just never felt right to me! Thanks again...all the best!
I agree. I took the forum and I thought it was briliant for me, for it helped me see new aspects. However I can see where this cult buisness comes in place. What I noticed was the people who were less secure tended to agree with everything they say instead of processing it and create their own perception.
If you take only certain parts out of the forum i think it can help, but if you believe everything it could turn you into a drone.
My conclusion, if it was cheaper I would recommend a session
Don't believe the hype. The Forum gives you an opportunity to go beyond what generally stops you. This fellow wants to be in control. What would it hurt for him to try a new way of interacting with the world? He may see other possibilities. After all, life does go on in those areas he doesn't have acess to because he refuses to surrender. For instance, why didn't he just pee at the break? No he starts tripping on how he couldn't go if he wanted to..He is in his own way,blocking/sabotageing himself..
I don't think the average reader would understand any of this comment. So allowing myself to "surrender" as you say myself to the guidelines of the forum and the teachings of the master leader without giving any critical thought as to what is being taught or why participants are to take no notes or not leave the room - by doing so - I am sabotageing myself? I don't think so. Read some of the recent comments, or I can e-mail you some of the PMs I have recievd. People are disgusted with LME
Im using my partners log. Im very worried about a great friend who is deeply involved in this "forum". What she fails to understand she has always been amazing - and like all, we carry our bruises - we dont need to keep digging and digging at ourselves to find happiness or the reason why - some things just are - what you do have is the here and now & harness that for what can be & is now. Im afraid she is so busy trying to find herself she & everyone who adores her will be lost in transistion!
That's a legitimate concern. Moreover, in the forum, you are made to see that you yourself are responsible for creating any tragedy that has befallen you. I am sure you can understand the possibility for danger for someone who may not be able to grasp this outside the context of the forum.
You know why you have problems? Because you are the common denominator in your problems! You have problems because you are there! You should know by now that you don't know what you don't know! I DO KNOW WHAT I KNOW! Be open to possibility! I want you to write a note to someone who you have unfinished business with and clean up whatever you perceive as someone else's problem! I'll tell you what I'll be your coach, and we'll get through this together.
Are you familiar with the term "sophistry". I suggest you look that up to know what I know about Landmark's mind control techniques. You also may want to read some of the other comments posted by others here.
I'm just yanking your chain, Brad. These guys at Landmark have perfected a way to take advantage of those who are looking for a solution to their problems. I've read some of the other posts by people here, and combined with your video you all have a good insight into this company. I especially liked the comment about "robots". It's true. I know alot of people who "participate" (har har) in Landmark and it can change the very core of some people. No doubt that there is sophistry at play here.
Just about done: If Landmark was free, everybody would love it. Funny how people spend thousands in therapy and pay their therapists WAY more than what Landmark will ever cost them, but that's in the order of things. God forbid that we disturb society.
You have given a series of classic responses to objections people offer as concerns about Landmark. I wonder if these are written down somewhere. This one about paying thousands for therapy is a hoot. Therapists are trained professionals to help people deal with there problems in a professional setting. They don't ask for them to recruit other patients or volunteer cleaning thier offices after hours. Forum leaders have no such training. Have you watched "voyage au pays?" I suggest you do.
Also, I am sure you are a good teacher and know that students have many different learning styles. Can you honestly say, that all students should not take notes? Come on, have you ever had a University class where you did not take notes? When I told the Forum leader that I needed to write notes as a visual learner, she told me that was my "perception". So, if a student w/dyslexia has a hard time reading, that's his perception? ça - c'est d'la merde!
One more thing, I haven't seen people moving mountains, but I have noticed that a lot of Landmarkians establish a lot of Internet marketing schemes after the forum. That says more about wanting to get rich than saving other people from being unhappy.
Oh, so Landmark has PhD's now? To think people actually pay for PROFESSIONAL HELP. Landmark is a complete joke and you have to sign a paper so that you understand they're risks in taking it. Landmark is playing a fine line like they have in the past when they've gotten sued for these practices.
Landmark is brilliant for the fact that they make people want to pay hundreds then thousands of dollars for courses that encourage the attendees to work for free for the organization to solicit more people to take more courses. They tell you "The more people you enroll in Landmark, the more your life will transform!! Some fall for it to the point where they spend 15 hours a day working at Landmark for free, calling people trying to get them to join. tsk tsk
I had the opportunity to go a Landmark Introduction forum. One of my friends has done the program, and while she seems to have enjoyeda bit of success with it, your commentary has just about summed up my thoughts on the intro forum. The hard-sell, and the chesire grins on everybody's faces; it's like most of these folks came off some sort of assembly line. I cannot deny the positive changes I've seen in my friend, but you're right: there's something really unnerving about this whole business.
This was a very well-expressed summary of the experience. I went two years ago and will never return. The other day I had a conversation with a co-worker who is a Landmark fanactic and she told me she was "on it" and angry at me. I tried to tell her it was ok to be angry and when I said that she exploded and told me to shut up, like she was trying to suppress all emotions, so when I saw this video, I completely understood why she acted the way she did. I feel sorry for her.
Landmark is a TOTAL scam, I did 3 of their training courses and it all can be summed up as this: They brainwash you into paying THEM to make sales calls for them. Shocking how many people fall for it.
And god forbid you need to use the bathroom, they will shout/guilt/shame you so you either hold it or run for your life.
Earlier this evening, I was invited over to a friends place to help fill numbers for some meeting or group they were organising.
It ended up being a Landmark Forum introduction which I had not heard of. I was initially receptive and put my phone number and email down. 5 minutes into it the contents of the course was called "technology" - Co$! Co$!. Not wanting to be rude I even stayed for the 40min hard sell before going home to search its history. Thank you for your video - I will not sign up.
The fact alone that LE deems it necessary to use these manipulative techniques such as the psycho-harvesting of new recruits at the emotional "graduation ceremonies" sheds a really bad light on it - no matter how empowered the individual may feel.
Landmark also blows it's own story out of proportion:
I have a friend who did 3 year-long wisdom courses, (total $18000) and is still as unstable, struggling insecure and unsuccessful as anyone else
In the end, you have to use your brain no matter what
I calculated again, and her cost must have been somewhat less, more like $9000 (sorry about the previous misspost, she said that she couldn't remember how much it cost).
It's not the most expensive "human potential" seminar out there.
When I did the forum, I wasn't so much scared about the content - or by the language/terminology being used, but I must admit that the pressure to bring in relatives and friends and the behavior towards critics that happens here is pretty scary and disqualifying.
I think some of L.E.s concepts do "work on people" - e.g. the idea of the "stories" we constantly make up about our environment and the past - the idea that things would be so much easier if we could see the world from the perspective of "nothing" - however: it's not OK to put all kinds of reflection into the category of a "story" - much less to program the resulting emotional destabilisation with the message that you need to bring friends family and colleagues to do the same...
Like Filmcity57, I had got a great deal of value from LMF. Its not a prefect institution/business, its run by humans. But its not as bad as people try to make out and I strongly believe they come from a good place in their motivations.
This morning I tried to send an email to someone who is still friends w/ the person who "invited" me (3 times) to landmark in the first place & I actually thought I may need exit counseling or something...because the people have turned into the BIGGEST weirdos! Thanks for the video
Is Nisserberka (sp?) The other dude who made videos bout landmark shittyass cult? Why do these lunatics keep calling him a "drunk"?....cause he has a brain & knows how to utilize logic & common sense & is obviously a very good person & these other fucktards don't have the capacity to think
Yea, it's mostly the same person, who uses different handles : "personmeant". He calls me a pervert. Check out his homepage to see the real thing. He's a real psycho who did ES when he was 18. He's never recovered obviously.
I consider myself a well read, educated and succesful professional. I took the Forum and Advanced course recently and made some critical and powerful distinctions about myself and my life that eclipsed the cost when compared to their practical value. I later was asked and volunteered (becoming one of those assistants in back of the room). This guy is totally off base about 'watching every move', 'opening doors', 'discouraging bathrooms etc.
He hit the nail on the head. He can't handle authority.
Thank you for taking the time to produce these intelligent, thoughtful videos about your experiences with Landmark Education. You distill concisely the major points I myself struggle to put into words as I reflect upon my own experiences with Landmark. I confess I am heartbroken that some simple and potent ideas for living life with less fear and anxiety are all but obfuscated by the heavy handed prosyletizing and environmental manipulations you describe. Thanks and be well. =)
Thank you for such an eloquent affirmation. And yes, Landmark is not selling anything new, just delivering it in a toxic and authoratative manner intended to create dependance on the program. Sad....
I did the Forum and the Advanced Course and part of the Wisdom course for my ex (ah what we do for love!) and to this day find it teeth grindingly frustrating to be condescended to in "Landmark technology jargon" whenever I try to raise what seems reasonable questions. But this is nothing new. On the plus side, with your help, I am about to create a new realm of kitten possibility for the rest of the evening! Oh, check out "When Death Comes" by Mary Oliver - short and you'll enjoy it.
wow great vid, its good to know what is in store for you after people take the nice and fuzzy intro class. i'll be sure to link this to a friend who was certainly seduced by it. keep it up, and peace be with you, friend.
I had an ex who was in a cult, then left that to join Landmark.
she tried to get me to join, and thats when i ran for my life.
wanna know how powerful these kooks are. they got a teenager to quit myspace
and to all that spent a little money on registration crap, just consider those costs sunk.... have a good laugh about it and move on with your life (already in progress).
and thank ppl like this gentleman for saving you some dough.
Interesting to read all these comments. I did the Landmark Forum in AUS and I actually enjoyed it. I am doing the advanced course tomorrow but having spent the last 5 hours reading things online, it actually scares me that im doing it!
The Forum was good, sure i agree the hard sell was not needed and over the top, but the actual material was good. I am strong enough to not be affected by much of this, ill report on the advance course in the next few days.
also the purveyors or footsoldiers of this movement have a seriously crazy look in their eyes.most if not all have a history of severe trauma.i am sure that is just a coink-a-dink.
You will notice on "headsosikk's" You Tube homepage that his occupation "professional drug addict" and one of his interests is "staying high".
Yeah, I want to be taking life tips from a stoner. Where do I sign up?
Ok, so, lets see, it is the fanatical born again christians like "bradbavarde" & wasted stoners like "headsosikk "& the drunken alcoholics like "Nisseberka" all blabbering on You Tube who the world should stop everything that they are doing and listen to? Oh for sure!
Well, I am sure headsosikk is probably having a little more fun than you! And why do you assume I am a "fanatical born again Christian?" Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I am surprised that is how you choose to label me. Also, why do you Lanmarkians say that Nisseberka is a drunk? Is this sort of name calling endorsed by Forum coaches???????
When those things are called out and put at risk, ones protection mechanisms go haywire. This is why so many have a "negative" reaction, when it is just a reaction, not + or -. That's what I think. Stick with it dude.
I would tell you that a positive reaction is not expected or even desired. It was moving. It was humbling. It was empowering. It was hard. Human beings basic nature is to be right, to want to dominate, and to look good.
"just curious, why did you hate it? I am glad you got good results, but if everyone can not be expected to react positively to this kind of experience"
It made me uncomfortable to have my fears, prejudices, "stories" that I held true, and my shames put up right in front of me. Also those hotel chairs suck, but that is besides the point.
Thank you for expressing in words my exact feelings about Landmark. I attended the seminar in 2003, and each night I almost didn't return. I remember after lunch on Saturday our leader made everyone who was late stand up and accused them of not having integrity. That's when it dawned on me, I bet every Saturday after lunch this happens, regardless of who's late or not. They also said, if this isn't for you, you are free to go. Oh really? If you want to be singled out in front of 60 people.
Thanks for commenting. Yes, it really is amazing how a group dynamic is developed that keeps you there. I had the same intention to leave and I couldn't. I kept thinking to myself, "and I paid for this?" How did you like the pledge to abstain from all alcohol, medication, and caffeine during the week-end?
those things are standard behavior modification parlor tricks.if you look at the history of how the current perpetrators obtained the rights to this program it is very informative.landmark is a big mindfuck.and the weak are exploited.
Beware, if you need to release the past hurts and pain, do it one on one with a PROFESSIONAL!

to each man there own, and you come across as a victim, you look very much in your head, you possibly get gratification by enrolling the internet in your story, you could go on and on and you do .. you are entitled to your opinion, and your thinking is very limiting, you pigeon hole others with your word perhaps. your context is what creates, so go create something else besides gum flap.. cheers mate .. love ya..
MrJaimeDean 1 year ago
@MrJaimeDean I agree, I do process a lot in my mind, but I think it is interesting you use the term "enroll" when referring to my actions. This is definite Landmark speak. So something has gottent through.
bradbavarde 1 year ago

What the hey is that about?
msbeachboard 1 year ago

I have done Landmark forum,All about making money for them,They know how to wash your brain,
azrausa 1 year ago
I found your review quite odd. The whole idea of Landmark is to stop making assumptions based on your previous experiences. Your final comments were all based on assumptions as to what you "thought" might happen to those you met through the forum. Did you actually do the course? Most of your commentary was completely at odds with what happens at the forum. I have experienced more "brainwashing" and "manipulation" at church on Sundays than at Landmark.
evas99 1 year ago

Thanks for your honest perspective. this group is seems to be basically Dianetics without the Alien undertone. Does Landmark forum use E-meters or is it just the talk therapy? Forum begins:
Anything you want for yourself or your life is available out of your participation in the L F.
You can have any result for yourself or your life that you invent as a possibility AND ENROLL OTHERS in your having gotten.
Enrollment is causing a new possibility to be PRESENT FOR ANOTHER, such that they are touched, moved, and inspired by that possibility.
The results you get from the LF are a product of the possibilities you invent AND ENROLL OTHERS in your having gotten.

Basic themes and examples?
canaan1967 1 year ago
Hey Brad, Thanks for sharing your comments on the Landmark Forum. I personally loved it and loved the blank canvass that was created by the Sunday evening. I felt powerful and felt that I could create whatever I wanted in life. I've since created a full time time business in what I'm passionate about - teaching people to dance. I'd only gone into the Landmark Forum as a "refresher". My life was fine, I just wanted motivation. And it was so much more transformational than that!
olgaloves2boogie 1 year ago
I've done LM (ILP) and been on staff in Scientology - totally different. Whole lot more love in LM, for sure. For me, my life was a train wreck. Now it isn't. If my friends don't want to go in, that's cool. It worked for me, I thought it could do the same for them. I don't ram it down people's throats. They can think whatever they like about LM, I know that it helped my life in so many big positive ways but I had to go through some heavy stuff to come out the other end. And I'm grateful for it.

I saw this video before taking the course and I am reviewing it now. What I listen on the background is a complain and a fear. What he shares is what it meant to him. You will find that the story change by the teller of the story . This course is a personal experience and is very different listened by a mouth or a book of someone else. My share is that I am now "aware" of things that I didn't even consider before.
monchi901 1 year ago
@monchi901 Well, without all the Landmark jargon, what you are saying is everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right? Just understand, friend, that Landmark did not allow you to think any differently from your capacity prior to your experience. They just told you how to put new words to it, and said it came from them as wisdom. You should be fine as long as you trust yourself.

Love your honesty. I can imagine that some people might get a lot of The Forum. I haven't been, but I have read many peoples experiences and unfortunately some people have been adversely effected.
bastion0700 1 year ago
I always come by here and the discussions are really interesting!
One of the things I would like to add too is that they did push me really hard to get me to bring in people I know - my family, the people at my job/boss. I kept away all of them. They always say "bring people or you are not going to progress".
The strange thing is that the existential attitude I got from the Forum did leave me feeling pretty lonely after a while.
imho that loneliness is why some people get depressed from it
transfixedtornado 1 year ago
@transfixedtornado That is a very interesting observation. You know that most of the critical comments I have received from Landmarkians have attacked me personally by saying that I must be lonely and sad for having made these videos. The fact could not be further from the truth. Perhaps they are projecting their own negarive attitudes?
bradbavarde 1 year ago
BTW - thanks for disabling "thumbs up/thumbs down" - it's interesting how every single comment containing even a "hint" of critical thought about the LE organisation, their strategies or their content gets mass voted down by unidentified users- it's really like totally killing free speech.
That alone stinks so bad that I sometimes feel sorry for ever having defended the thing as something that actually gave me a new perspective.
It's a total shame.
e.g. here: watch?v=ZOJwtFmNqiU

I have courses too, but ...
corona4love 1 year ago
I was saying, I give courses too about teaching. I teach teachers, but I have no hierarchy, so to say, it means that if you want to take level 1 , you go for it. if you want to go to level 6, you don't have to go through all the others in between. that's another red bell for me. this sounds like a good game because people don't open their eyes...the eyes of the mind. thank you for reading and sharing.
I ma not sure I'll go to this forum, I might get angry at these techniques... :)

I was confused, scared and disfunctional for a whole week, It took me some time to recover and come to my sences. I dont want this happend to anyone else. What realy bothered me more than anything with landmark was that they do any thing to make a marketing tool out of every single one of us no matter how miserable they make us.
satlehashghal 2 years ago
So it is 2:00 am and you are trying to get some sleep, but it is realy hard, there is so much new stuff in your mind, you are thinking about all the sad stories you heard from other people, father rapind daughtr, mother leaving son behind in orphanage, middle age lady who is

I may be arrogant and an explosive personality and a difficult person to live with - but it was these very talents that saved me from these cunts.

is a matter of fact, at the end of the seminars. you could take it into many ways. you could get a different outcome from the same speach. your friend that took it her way and began to be more cold, took it the wrong way. yes they said that humans are like machines that our strongsuites and rachets are our gears, nuts and bolts and nicknacks of our being. yes they do say that life has no meaning. and of course they say much much more. what they were talking about is that life had no meaning to
arkmiguel 2 years ago
wow.....you have confirmed everything I thought that LANDMARK would be about. i have a co-worker who has joined LM and she is totally different now....she's cold...thats the only way to describe her...COLD!
joelleis 2 years ago
The fact: She went to the forum. She is different.
Your story: She is cold. This is everything of what the LM forum is about.
Impact: You wont have much new possibility in the relationship with her.
Can you see how powerful your story impacting you?
Will you consider talking to her and expressing your view about her being cold?
Can you imagine what your relationship with her could open up by sharing?
You might have a totally different view of her after the conversation. Try it on.
js01132010 2 years ago
Well, but what she will probably say is that that is only your perception (your story) that I am cold. I actually better than I have been in years. So he has a story and so does she. What is it about the relationship that can open up if she doesn't see what he sees?
bradbavarde 2 years ago
I acknowledge that I am too more often articulating a set of possible outcomes about events in the near future. For me, these are arising automatically from my past experiences and sounded logic. For most part, this is simply the way as a human being. There is nothing wrong with that.

So people feel alienated in their day to day life because of how capitalism regulates our lives and makes us feel unconfident and unable to perform. How do we cure it? By paying large amounts of money to a private not-really-psychologically-valid (by transparent professional standards) profit making company? Does this COMPANY have any corporate social responsibility that it has to live up to?

but think its good for people who are leaders wishing to develope themself and reflect on themself further.

phrostphil: At least you learned a good lesson for the future.

Hi Brad.
It's just a tool that you buy for yourself. I called mine ''The Bullshit Cutter''.
You CHOOSE to bring other people, not forced. You have the CHOICE to remain who you believe to be. That's all! If you did it, then you got it.
Doesn't mean it's the truth.
Call it food for thought..

Also, the description very much resembles original EST by Werner Erhard, that I underwent - the course leader tried to implement a idealism/value-nihilist standpoint, but since I'm a natural adversary, it instead made me reject that idealism/value-nihilist standpoint that I had before. That was my first and last experience with the Erhard line of Dianetical Cultism.
siderespector 2 years ago
This sounds like a pretty low effective cult. These conflicting messages are of course a way to confuse and vulnerablize to cult implementation of a cult personality, but it seems they are too fast with the confusement process.

siderespector 2 years ago
it's not that you are critical that makes you immature it is the way you express your opinions as if they are the truth. Your experience is valid as an experience and I respect that but don't couch yourself as some sort of authority. This has nothing to do with landmark by the way it relates to any criticism communicated this way.
By the way surely you can't possibly be threatened by what I am saying. That would be very strange!! And I apologise if you are... certainly not my intention
toekneeburns 2 years ago
Well, if you interpret that I am expressing my opinions as truth, that is your subjectivity. I don't believe I have ever said that I am an authority or denied that Landmark does not helps some people. Of course I am not threatened, I just don't understand why you and others like you need to "label" criticism as being imature (or some other perjorative term), just because it is critical of Landmark. And by the way my experience is reality, just as a victim of any trauma.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
And by the way, you may be interested to know that Werner Erhard once had the audacity to tell a Holaucoust victim that her experience in the camps was not real, just her "reality" that she was responsible for. What's that about?
bradbavarde 2 years ago
As a commentator said earlier you always have a choice in life and that you are expressing views as if that choice was taken away from you is real ignorance. Your experience is be valid, I don't deny you that, to make the kinds of sweeping statements being made here as if your experience is some kind of reality is mindblowlingly immature.
toekneeburns 2 years ago
I am always amazed that Landmarkians will label anyone who is critical of Landmark as being immature, lonely, or inauthentic. If someone is critical of something I think is important, such as Eastern Orthodoxy for example, I respect the right of the otther to have that opinion without being threatened or labeling the other person as having something wrong. This says a lot about how "authentic" these Landmark people really are...

I am rather afraid. I work for a company that has made this forum mandatory! I cannot afford to lose my job so I cannot decline. The company has actually paid for me. Do you have any suggestions on how to counteract this while I sit through it?
usthatswho1 2 years ago
Yes, I have had messages sent to me expressing similar situations in which an employer made the forum a "mandatory requirement", I suggest you read the comments and watch the documentary. Also, don't take it too seriously. When you feel you are being controlled by the rules, rebel (you are an adult after all); take notes, use the restroom when you want, choose where you want to sit, pay attention to the times when they start spinning speach that is totally incomprehensible.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
Con't. as this is designed to control your thoughts. Also, don't loose your critical thinking skills. At the beginning, watch for people who come forward that are very articulate and say they are already being changed (these are plants). Some of the stuff is good, but most is crap. Please send me a personal note to let me know what you thought!
bradbavarde 2 years ago

IT IS AMAZINGLY UGLY and UNSETTLING.

Haven't been involved in Landmark for over 10 years - this is what I have to say:
- you ALWAYS have a choice in life;
- having experienced being a monitor - the goal is servicing the participants not controlling them;
- why do you think that Landmark doesn't respond -free publicity for them
- Landmark is a business - like all business it is out to make money - recruiting is part of the game!

I Walked out of Landmark Forum for 3 Reasons
1. They control everything you do(Bathroom Breaks, Water Breaks)
2. They will not let you take notes(they never tell you this up front in the Registration.)
3. They put presure in that you have to talk to the person next to you for you to have a BreakThrough.
It is a Cult make no Mistake about it and they will defend it to the very end.

i have just completed the forum.... it is one of the most perculiar states of mind i have had. Please be very very very cautious.
nickfossy 2 years ago
Its very true what you said about how it changes people. I knew a friend several years ago who did it. Afterwards, all he would do is try to recruit more, even offered to pay for people to do it, so they could experience the wonders of it. My instincts knew something was very wrong and this was no longer the friend I knew. All he cared about was recruiting, no longer wanted to hang out, just wanted to recruit and be with his new Landmark associates.

LE rips "Truths" from religion/science etc..totally twists it , covers it up with nonsensical, militaryesque tactics...so that when they finally "reveal" to you their big secret..that nothing means anything..you are making it all happen..you eat it up...
very satanic indeed!!
LaylaNadda 2 years ago
Well said. Werner Ehard knew what he was doing by mixing up all sorts of traditions to form his own brand of sophistry.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
The only 'good" things about LE, are ripped from other organizations, and philosophies...that's what makes it so hard for people to reject it totally...they think they're also rejecting what's "true" that LE preaches...
That is the most powerful kind of poison..think about it, if you had a problem with ants in your house, putting out poison alone would do nothing--maybe kill a couple, but they catch on quickly...the best way to kill them is to MIX the poison in their food..it wipes them out!

You CAN expect this:
Pressure to entice friends, family, and anyone to join.
Expectations to sign up for a lifetime of $500. weekend seminars. (No. You don't just go to the initial 3 day seminar. You KEEP going and paying.)
Requirements to provide free labor to Landmark Education forever.
Pressure to distance yourself from anyone and everyone who threatens to impede your "progress" in Landmark Education by providing a voice of reason.
Loss of family and friends who don't support LE.

No he starts tripping on how he couldn't go if he wanted to..He is in his own way,blocking/sabotageing himself..
earlchaney2000 2 years ago

Im afraid she is so busy trying to find herself she & everyone who adores her will be lost in transistion!
treeintervention 2 years ago
That's a legitimate concern. Moreover, in the forum, you are made to see that you yourself are responsible for creating any tragedy that has befallen you. I am sure you can understand the possibility for danger for someone who may not be able to grasp this outside the context of the forum.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
You know why you have problems? Because you are the common denominator in your problems! You have problems because you are there! You should know by now that you don't know what you don't know! I DO KNOW WHAT I KNOW! Be open to possibility! I want you to write a note to someone who you have unfinished business with and clean up whatever you perceive as someone else's problem! I'll tell you what I'll be your coach, and we'll get through this together.

Are you familiar with the term "sophistry". I suggest you look that up to know what I know about Landmark's mind control techniques. You also may want to read some of the other comments posted by others here.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
I'm just yanking your chain, Brad. These guys at Landmark have perfected a way to take advantage of those who are looking for a solution to their problems. I've read some of the other posts by people here, and combined with your video you all have a good insight into this company. I especially liked the comment about "robots". It's true. I know alot of people who "participate" (har har) in Landmark and it can change the very core of some people. No doubt that there is sophistry at play here.
phildpain 2 years ago
Just about done: If Landmark was free, everybody would love it. Funny how people spend thousands in therapy and pay their therapists WAY more than what Landmark will ever cost them, but that's in the order of things. God forbid that we disturb society.
People move mountains after the Landmark Forum.
Thanks for allowing me to give my point of view!
florencebernard 2 years ago
You have given a series of classic responses to objections people offer as concerns about Landmark. I wonder if these are written down somewhere. This one about paying thousands for therapy is a hoot. Therapists are trained professionals to help people deal with there problems in a professional setting. They don't ask for them to recruit other patients or volunteer cleaning thier offices after hours. Forum leaders have no such training. Have you watched "voyage au pays?" I suggest you do.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
Also, I am sure you are a good teacher and know that students have many different learning styles. Can you honestly say, that all students should not take notes? Come on, have you ever had a University class where you did not take notes? When I told the Forum leader that I needed to write notes as a visual learner, she told me that was my "perception". So, if a student w/dyslexia has a hard time reading, that's his perception? ça - c'est d'la merde!
bradbavarde 2 years ago
One more thing, I haven't seen people moving mountains, but I have noticed that a lot of Landmarkians establish a lot of Internet marketing schemes after the forum. That says more about wanting to get rich than saving other people from being unhappy.
bradbavarde 2 years ago
Oh, so Landmark has PhD's now? To think people actually pay for PROFESSIONAL HELP. Landmark is a complete joke and you have to sign a paper so that you understand they're risks in taking it. Landmark is playing a fine line like they have in the past when they've gotten sued for these practices.
dips3t20 2 years ago

Thanks for your comment. You've done yourself an emotional favor, and saved a lot of money in the process.
bradbavarde 2 years ago

When I did the forum, I wasn't so much scared about the content - or by the language/terminology being used, but I must admit that the pressure to bring in relatives and friends and the behavior towards critics that happens here is pretty scary and disqualifying.
transfixedtornado 2 years ago
I think some of L.E.s concepts do "work on people" - e.g. the idea of the "stories" we constantly make up about our environment and the past - the idea that things would be so much easier if we could see the world from the perspective of "nothing" - however: it's not OK to put all kinds of reflection into the category of a "story" - much less to program the resulting emotional destabilisation with the message that you need to bring friends family and colleagues to do the same...
