you know what sucks. If you ask any 13-16 year old child whats there favorite J. geils song. They'll respound with whos J. Geils :( Im only 15 and I love J. geils. I just wish there were more teens like me who apreciate real music. Like if you agree
This is a rendition of the Marvelows song from 1964. The Marvelows were an old DoWop group from Chicago....This was always the best retake on that song. I loved the J Geils Band back then....BTW if anyone wants to hear the original, The Marvelows are here on YouTube....:)
They were in Detroit last night 8/19/11....sold out show....ripped the roof off the place! Outstanding show... If you like to have fun, and dance at a concert you need to go if they come to your town!. If you live with a stick up your azz...prob best to stay home.........
Only 2 hours of J Geils??? They must have cut the set short cause someone in the band was sick. The shows I have seen over the years in Washington DC the band usually played for close to 3 and a 1/2 hours. You couldn't get them off the stage. They would continue to play even after the house lights were brought back up and flickered. I think at one show the venue had to cut power to the stage. This is one of those bands that if you get a chance to see, GO !!! Its definately worth it.
@mcdeadsit If you are addressing my comment, J. Geils "only" played 2 hrs because they were opening for Skynyrd and Z.Z. Top. (it was "Z.Z. Tops World-Wide Texas Tour".) If Skynyrd had showed up, J.G. wouldn't have gotten NEARLY 2 hrs of time. Still a great show. My previous comment about J. Geils 10th anniversary party at The Warehouse is more indicative of their skills as headliners-bloody awesome & about 3 hrs(no breaks) not counting the champagne and birthday cake food fight. Peace n Love!

Saw these guys at the Warehouse in N'awlins. It was a show to celebrate the joint 10th anniversary of both the band and the Warehouse. It was nucking futz. They were spraying the audience with champagne and had a giant birthday cake & were handing out slices to the audience -and then- FOOD FIGHT!! Cake and champagne were flying everywhere, the band was slipping in the slop, falling down and laughing their a**es off. Doze were da days my friend.
@mikwid No doubt. My parents had the original (by The Marvelows. The whole band got credit but I think it was Marvin Mason & Frank Paden who actually wrote it) This vid is dubbed but I'm sure it's the audio track from "Blow Your Face Out (Live)" I'ts kinda weird at first hearing new generations of musicians playing your parents music- then really cool when they put their own spin on it. JOKER
@mikwid "First I look at the purse" was a tune by the Contours ("Do You Love Me?{Now That I Can Dance})
(1965?) I love the Countors version, but J. Geils just rips it live(as they do everything) What a great live show. Got another good Geils story in addition to my "Warehouse/J. Geils 10th Anniversary Story previously posted
@mikwid OK mik-here it go! Tulane U. used to have a stadium (Where da Saints played dere games in the pre-dome days) the bill was J. Geils, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Z.Z.Top. Skynyrd was a no-show(hungover) So we got 2 hours of J.G. before Z.Z. & it was da BOMB! But- a cop tried to arrest a guy for a joint in da middle of 30,000 heads(in NOLA? WTF?) They took his helmet & beat him wit it, so SWAT came in (lead by a motorcycle running over people) to extract him. Last concert at Tulane Stadium- EVER.
@MegaVoodooChile - Great story! Funny thing is around that time and up through the early 80's that shit happened more often then not(and are some of the best memories/stories). Bummer missing Skynard but JG and ZZ would be a bitchin combo! I remember being at an outdoor venue with 4 bands and having a whole family walk by me (including the dog) all tilted and weaving - from Dad to Jr. At the time I just thought wow, look at that!
The Marvelowes first did it in about '65. I prefer the original version, but that's not to take anything away from this one....this one is a raucous toe tapper, that's for damn sure!
This was a really cool version of this song ! Great Job but I still like the Original by the Marvelows in 65 then again in 73 under the Mighty Marvelows ! Check it out. However the Harp was J's signiture, know doubt !
I just wanted to thank you for all this piece of memorabilia (information) you are sharing with the community. It is nice to discover the (his)tory behind hits such as "I do", I appreciate your comments,
Peter Wolf--vocals... Stephen Joe Bladd--Drums/vocals...Seth Justman--Keyboards..Danny Klein--Bass...Howlin' Magic Dick--Harmonica...J. Geils--guitar....one of the greatest live bands ever....
I don,t know how old everybody is out there but this is timeless classic party band. This reminds me of the time I saw them at the Aragon ballroom Chicago back in 70 something. It,s just a non-stop party we these guy,s.Drinking, smoking and getting generally shitfaced with these guy,s about 20 feet in front of you was one of the best time,s of my life...

This has been flagged as spam show
"This was recorded in Pine Knob Music theater (Now DTE Music Theater) in Metro Detroit, that's in Clarkston, MI."
This is a great venue to see a show, there is a very large covered seating area
and high hills around the uncovered area that is for the lawn seating and
lots of food places behind that.

Btw, there were a handful of bands that defined the sound of Boston during the late '70s to early '80.
If Massachusetts ever had an official state rock band, it could only be The J Geils Band.
Up until Freeze Frame, J Geils had to be the most beloved band from the RI - CT border to the tip of Maine.
What a great old song.
