TKD has never been very successful in K1 because it requires a much larger ring. To be successful at TKD you need to be very quick on your feet. You need to strike and then be able to get out of the way of your opponents attack. K1 ring is too small for that style of counter fighting. That is why the top players are always Muay Thai or Kyokushin because both styles teach you how to stand and take punishment from your opponent and wait for an opening.

His fighting style adopted to ring where he corners his opponent for his deadly high kick didn't really work in Octogon as there are no corners. Whenever fighter goes into a different format you have to change your game in order to win.

If you judge it by technical skill, I've seen C class guys do better. And those have at most 6 fights under their belt, and rarely ever more than 5-7 years training.

Anyway... I don't think that any martial artist can just go to K1 with what he knows... He needs to learn and adapt to all the strategies and rules of K1. TKD's rules differ greatly. If they don't adapt, they're doomed. The same thing happens if you put a boxer in MMA. Once they're in the floor. Loss.
TKD needs to make the needed change for practical application in today's K1 environment. What a shame seeing sport TKD practitioners getting a eye opening experience at this level. Andy Hug - wonderful Kyokushin Karate fighter. Almost as charismatic as Bruce Lee. He was able to win using any technique, backfasists, mawashi ando more... not only as most K1 using low kicks and straight boxing puch.

It's because standard TKD fighting style isn't suited for K-1. (Andy Hug looks different in his kyukushin fights as well btw) So Guenette had to adapt his fighting style to fit K-1.
Mr Guenette is of ITF Taekwon-Do background. he's competed in World Champs and other top international comps of TKD. just Mr Hug is so technical you cant use standard TKD fighting against someone like him, pus in ITF Taekwon-Do its more counter fighting and only score fighting, no KO's.

Andy was the better figher. Neryos chaguis or whatever they call them in TKD ITF are pretty much Mr. Hug's favorite weapon: ax kicks. It's not a matter of style, it's a matter of who's better fighter.

I dont even think its a matter of whos style is better i think Andy Hug is a better all round fighter he owned the whole space of the ring there. Nothing against Guenette, i love watching him fight!

Andy Hug - wonderful Kyokushin Karate fighter. Almost as charismatic as Bruce Lee. He was able to win using any technique, backfasists, mawashi ando more... not only as most K1 using low kicks and straight boxing puch.

First of you cunt, I didn't say he hasn;t done TKD, I said he didn;t look very tkd in thi fight, which he does not, it, nothin more. secondly, when calling people names, do come withsomething new, the last guysaid the same sentence basicly, I get it, he has TKD fights, never desputed that xD, but what he dos in this fight is frankly just sucking, but he does it in a way that I can;t say it looks very TKD-ish

It's because standard TKD fighting style isn't suited for K-1. (Andy Hug looks different in his kyukushin fights as well btw) So Guenette had to adapt his fighting style to fit K-1.
Outside of that he was simply outclassed as well.

Pierre was an ITF Tkd champ at that time, he also practice Shotokan Karate, but he didn't master it
He has 2 fight in K1, he lost both fight, it was against another Karate practitioner. but he did very2 well in ITF championship

Mr Guenette is of ITF Taekwon-Do background. he's competed in World Champs and other top international comps of TKD. just Mr Hug is so technical you cant use standard TKD fighting against someone like him, pus in ITF Taekwon-Do its more counter fighting and only score fighting, no KO's.

Que tiene que ver la lucha de suelo en todo esto??? si es una pelea con reglas K-1 !!! Y Andy esta mucho mas entrenado en lo que es "fullcontact" con variado tipo de tecnicas,el chabon ya era campeon mundial super pesado de muay thai tambien! mientras que guennette en lo unico que es experto es en TKD.

a) he was scared sh*tless of Andy. How do I know? Where's the cocky, taunting Pierre from his TKD days?
b) WAY outweighed
c) underprepared
d) glass jaw. Granted, Andy threw hammers, but Pierre had never been in a real fight before this. Just some dancing, prancing and singing in his TKD fights.
Pierre is amazingly talented, and hinted at it in this fight, but he got schooled by the big boys. He did have good speed in this fight, just not enough bang.

buri2: Agreed they are both martial artists, BUT Hug had way more experience in MMA, and way outweighed PG.
