If your familiar with the joseph nichols tavern on fifth street, apparently thomas jefferson and andrew jackson have stopped by there while they were passing through. Thomas Jefferson did have a summer home located in present day poplar forest. His summer home has been restored and it is opened to the public.
A correction: the mill was run in some capacity as late as the 1980's. Also, an update: the building has been purchased, and is now in the process of being transformed into loft apartments and commercial space. Thankfully, the place will no longer decay.
Hey my Dad works for The City of Lynchburg, and has been for quite some time now, and there are lots of bums and stuff in those abandoned buildings, so be carefull ;}
@ITSGABEZ I know some of the "bums." A group of them work for a fellow who owns a lot of old buildings downtown, and he lets them live in the buildings he owns. They don't have running water, but they are not the sorts who mind.
In 1973 the flour mill was still open and there was a street just above it that ran right through the property on a bridge. We used to ride by it then and the mill was running very loudly.
