  • "Please, Please, Please" came out in 1956. "Try Me" came out in 1959. "(Do the) Mashed Potatoes" came out in 1960.

Cochran's first album, "Wayne Cochran!" came out in 1967 on Chess.

  • I understand the Blues Brothers now. the man can dance

  • Wayne is alive and well and a Christian minister in Miami.

  • Is Wayne still alive? Touring? He had more talent in his feet than elvis had in his whole body!

  • I saw Wayne in the early 70s (I think) in Underground Atlanta. It seemed he had horns in the double digits and they would leave the stage and parade through Underground. Jaco Pastorios (sp) got his start in this band, I think. Tight, tight and more tight horns and 3 piece rhythem section. More energy than I have seen outside James Brown and Otis, both from GA as well.

  • great guy too i promoted a concert he headlined at the happy medium in 1977 great showman

  • Wow! Great look, great sound and sweet moves! Love this!

  • I commented much earlier, but, I gotta leave another. Pardon me for shouting...

THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO ON YOUTUBE.

    Thankya very much.

  • unless i'm mistaken, wasn't he a white answer to the late great James Brown?

  • @cuneo1950 He was that. They nick named him the Blue Eyed Soul man. James Brown went to the barn in Miami one night and they both did a duet on stage at the barn. We missed it,,,, darn it. Gordon Williams

  • man, this clip gives me goosebumps!!!

  • damn that man has got some moves!

  • I think the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is a bunch of cock. I don't need some bunch of people I don't know or care about to validate stuff we all know is fantastic. What is the point? This is art not sport.

  • @stretchmorgan I loved what NEIL DIAMOND said when he was inducted into the R&R HOF, He was talking about how unfair they are,,and he was right there. LOOK IT UP,,YOU'LL CRACK UP.

  • Anyone ever heard of Sonny Flaharty and the Grey imprint?

  • @lorenpatten Sonny and the Mark 5. Grey imprint??????

  • Nice hair. lol

  • I remember seeing this when Wayne was on Dinah. He should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.

  • CHECK OUT TRUE RIDERS UNITED ON YOU TUBE FACEBOOK OR SEARCH FOR OUR CLUB ON GOOGLE

  • Wayne is the white James Brown!

  • Miss Robyn Stanley (right) singing backup vocals. Robyn, you kick ass!

  • What year was this?

  • Wayne Cochran was a monster entertainer in Vegas because he took this sound with him from Macon Ga with Emil Handke play the drums!

  • whats the name of the song??? please im from Chile

  • That IS Jaco Pastorius on bass in this clip, for those who asked.

  • "Wayne Cochran and his Riders show off their moves"

Are you kidding me? Get real, they're showing off Jame Brown's moves. Totally ripped off everything but his name. Shameful......

  • You apparently don't know when WC started these kind of moves

  • @kensteee Wayne and James were the best of friends, we were on his show out of the old WTBS building in HotLanta many times.

  • lmao @ frankenwayne at 1:29. he is the man!

  • Wayne Cochran kinda looks like Wade Philips (X coach of the Dallas Cowboys) If Wade could have moved like that, Jerry Jones might have kept him on as coach!

  • Wayne Cochran always has a state of the art dew, awesome upload :)

  • The "White James Brown" !!!

    Wayne was great!

  • @musikfanat Or was James the Black Wayne Cochran?

  • @search9286 You must be joking! That was how they billed Wayne. i saw him when I was young. A nice guy and good performer.

  • The most underrated man in the history of music. Incredible!!!

  • Too bad he back doored my Dad with Baby, Baby I still Love you!! It was to be a spin off of Last Kiss! He was afraid of my Dad and still is. I would like to see my Dad in the Ga Music Hall of Fame for all of his accomplishments. BTW- the k stands for Kimball. My dad is Stanley Kimball!

  • Yeah, Wayne Cochran and his band are unbelievable! I mean this is music at its finest! John belushi knew this and I think they should certainly be inducted into the Hall of Fame! Peace!

  • Does anyone know what the title of this song is? I love it and can't find it anywhere.

  • Song is called It's Alright - Graham Central Station did it - at least that's the version I know.

  • Wayne was a blue eyed James Brown. And I knew James for many years and he loved Wayne' s shows. First time I saw Wayne and the CC Riders was on the Jackie Gleason shown. Blew me away. And catgaddis, I bet after all these years you, re still as beautiful as always.

  • Wayne played a lot of gigs in Indy back in the 70s. Brilliant performer--"blue eyed soul" I did a warm up act, solo jazz guitar at the Hollyyoke club in indy. Real honor to watch this group...the best.

  • Use to see these guys all the time in Vegas back then. They played the same casino i worked at .

  • There behind is Jaco. He is in hall of fame :))

  • @zhiwy That is David Cox not Jaco FYI.

  • Damn, that's hot.

  • can't get enough of the wayne

  • What a kickin band. Played opposite sets with the Cochran Band in the mid 70's in Chicago on Lincoln Ave ( The Cordon Blue). What fond memories that brings back.

  • Something else I just noticed on this vid. He had a smaller band on this vid. He had an 8 piece horn section with Foster playing the Trombone. Man , could that band kick ass !!!!

  • Catgaddis....I ran the stage at the Newport ( 70s) when Wayne worked there for months. Was wondering who made it to the reunion.....Foster, Lee, TDon, Randy, Gabe ? Man the 70s were a wild time working with Wayne & Bernie !

  • Skykilr1 this vid has over 16,000 views and I reckon that 1000 of them must be mine! hehe Really, I love it..

Do you have any more numbers from this show please and/or do you have info on this show and where to find more please?

Thank you and thank you for posting this awesome vid.

  • They are somewhat mentioned in the Ga Hall of Fame in Macon Ga. I plan on having the videos introduced there this year- There is a movie being made now about Confederate Records and Producer, Bobby Smith, which was of the First label Wayne Cochran and Otis Redding, Dennis (Damon) Wheeler & Bobby Cash & The Night Flyers recorded for.

  • who's the bass player. It sounds like Jaco and he's using an acoustic 360, but it just doesn't look like Jaco.

  • very cool, I was too young to see my uncle play bass with Wayne so this was very cool to see thanks for posting it.

  • The amazingly funky redhead Gary Whitley on guitar, Jay Armintrout drums (sp), It's the Dinah Shore Show, CBS Television City, maybe 75 or 76. I'm the bass player.

  • @2dogsdigital I should have read your note before posting my question. That's a great (and difficult) bass line you laid down there. Great job!

  • @2dogsdigital Nice to see a post from somebody in the band and your playing here is a gas. Have a few gigs coming up with John Berry this month on the east coast and he is still smokin' and it is an honor to play with him. This was a great lineup of the CC Riders !

  • Just Bitchn'.

  • no white boy could be as good as james brown-except wayne cochran-i've listened for more than 40 yrs to both.

  • This is the fonkiest huero in the game!

  • Saw Wayne's show in Miami and later in Chicago some 30 years ago. He put on a great show with good music and some outrageous antics. They were fun shows. But I don't think that means he should be in the RnR Hall of Fame. There are a lot of people that put on good shows, but does that mean they should be in the Hall? In fact there are a number of people that should be there before Wayne Cochran. I guess time will tell if the members of the Hall think he should be in.

    This was great to watch.

  • T-Don Capron and Lee Thornburg... yeah man. Killin' it. SO good to see Bob Gable here.

  • RIGHT ON !!! THEMOJOMAN (.) COM

  • One more reason why being born in the 40s and coming of age in the 60s was a great gift.

  • Well, I couldnt sit still!! lol

Is Jaco playin bass? I couldnt see.

  • Definitely not Jaco.

  • A WHITE JAMES BROWN?! INTERESTING.

  • Awesome rhythm section...uptight, outta sight, and in the groove. That's not to say the horn section isn't cookin', too. Can anyone play like this anymore? This looks and sounds like Show Business in contrast to Sunday night's carnival freak show/circus act/porno called "The Grammys." I had to wash the TV with Clorox after that crap spewed out of it. Popular music has gone down the toilet in just a few decades and I don't think it can recover.

  • It is an absolute crime that Wayne @ the CC Riders are NOT in the R@R Hall of Fame. I'm with you Donpiccolo, when you think of some of the people they've inducted the last few years - John Mellancamp??!!... WTF......

Check out the CC Riders Reunion clip somebody else posted on youtube. They are still kicking ass. What a band!

  • @bechir1967

    I couldn't agree more!

  • (lol) He's singing a Graham Central Station tune called "It's Alright".

  • I think this may be from the Mike Douglas show.

  • raidereddie - I looks like me - send me an e-mail or jump on to facebook

    Tom Herbert

  • drums and bass are outstanding!

  • @westrokker

Can't you say any more than that? The CC Riders were THE BEST R&B horn band ever assembled, period.

  • Wayne Cochran, should definitely be in the hall of fame.. If Blondie can make it in....What's wrong with the people who vote to get these artists in. He was great and inspired many including the Blues Brothers.

  • w/Jaco Pastorius Mike Katz and Randy Emerick South Florida legends

  • Question for Lee Thonburg: Its been so long I can't remember if this was one of your arrangements or mine? Sorry I couldn't make the reunion. Pez carried my regards.

    Best to All

    Tom Herbert

  • Tommy,

Is that you in this video??

  • @dowakado ...It was your arrangment, Thanks for the solo. Dave Cox

  • Wayne is the REAL DEAL! Elvis got his cape idea from Wayne...true entertainer..but I have a burning question for anyone who knows WHO IS THE AWESOME DRUMMER????

  • Wayne Cockran was not a trend setter, not an enovater. He was a Talent beyond reproach. He wasn t anyone but him. Stop comparing him to Elvis and whoever. Sad to say the last time I saw Wayne was in 71 at the Union 76 Truck Stop in St Augustine Fl. A winnebago and a 5 piece band. Sad. But it happens. He was one of the best stage performers ever. I am honored to call him my friend.

  • lol I take it by your comment that you' ve had some experience with ghetto turds. How else would you know what they sound like. Just poking fun. Don t get offended.

  • Great take you have on the r&r HOF. If Wayne were in it you would be saying it was his biggest accomplishment. So the Blues Brothers copied Wayne, Wayne copied James Brown, and Orion (Jimmy Ellis) copied Elvis. Three fine acts that have a loyal following. Comparing Wayne with Orion was a compliment. You took it as a put down.

  • He is AMAZING!

  • Wayne gave Elvis the first Jump suit & cape-he used - Elvis liked the look so Wayne blessed the King with the use of the attire- Wayne was the origal

  • that is exactly correct rentatrip, I know Wayne personally, he also put Jaco on the scene...though later he had to let him go as he was stealing Wayne's thunder... Wayne did tell me this, I played bass in his band around 87

  • That's my husband, Lee Thornburg, playing trumpet!!!

  • I met Lee when I lived in LA while he was with TOP. I used to go see Jack Mack and the Heart Attack and even auditioned on bass with them in the early 90's. I also see John Berry on the far right.

    Trace

  • Wayne is in Miami - Preaching now -

  • Tell Lee that crazy skinny kid that used to run the stage at the Newport 74-75 (and even turned the lights out on Wayne one nite as a joke) says hello !!!! I remember Lee, Tidon, Gabe, Randy and "my buddy" Foster all very well!

  • @agirlsinger Ha...my roomate for quite a while. Dave Cox

  • I think you are bias about the HOF...but this is a really good act. I would have paid to see it with no regrets. It is in a class with that of the Elvis impersonator Orion who released some albums about the same time this was playing. I remember Wayne being called the white James Brown. Wayne was very good and fun to watch and listen to but really he was no James Brown and JB is HOF.

  • wayne was a trend setter. an original. the stars used to go see him. he and otis redding were best friends. wayne gave jaco pastorius his start.wayne is the real deal. blues brothers copied him and even mention him in the movie.

  • all these things you mention are noteworthy. The r&r hof is not for who you help or who your friends are or who comes to see you perform. it is for the greatest music performers and groups of their era who achieve public and critic aclaim. writing one hit and having a star endorse you is not going to put you in a fraternity with the beatles, stones, and otis.

  • the rock and roll hall of fame is jann wenner's baby, basically a piece of garbage. wayne is too good for it why isn't deep purple in it. they sold more records for warner bros than any other act. velvet underground never got any public acclaim. hardly even a critical success in their day. wayne is not orion or in the league of elvis impersonators

  • Thanks for uploading! That's Show Business!

  • Trying to see in this video if my friend Foster the trumpbone player was still with him, but I don't see him . Gabe, was a crazy SOB and I always got a kick out of his eyes as he play that huge sax. Never knew that Lee played for Kevin Eubanks on the Tonight Show. Wayne had some great musicans in his band.

  • tremendous!

  • I saw him perform twice in Illinois at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Great band & exciting show!

But, HOF for him?? I don't think so.

  • why not?

  • Other stars of the video are Lee Thornberg (later Jay leno Tonight Show trumpet), who removes Wayne's cape, Don (T-Don) Capron, and Robert Gable, baritone sax. Great band. This is a legend.

  • @saxtek

HI Randy, I am honored to write you. Is it Jaco on this clip? The bass player looks like him, uses an Acoustic 360, but I am not sure is him, please let me know. Thanks and God bless.

  • @wysiwyg248

No. Bass player is Dave Cox.

  • awesome post!

  • Hey...

I'm the girl on the left.

Just returned from a reunion with Wayne and the CC Riders. At the Ocean Manor Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale and at Wayne's Church in Hialeah, Voice for Jesus.

Great weekend of doing all the old stuff again. Dancing and Singing.

  • excellent!!!!!

  • @catgaddis Well my dear, you sure are one sexy righteous babe who really knows how to shake it. I loved watching you.

Great voice too I might add.

  • @catgaddis What a great time you must have had, back then and at Wayne's reunion.

  • @catgaddis Do you guys ever remember and talk about when Jaco played with the CC Riders? It's also good to hear Wayne's ministry is doing well.

  • @catgaddis

Congratulations, I am sure it was a blast.

One questions about this performance: Do you recall who is on bass?

I wonder if it was Jaco Pastorius.... it does not look like him, but the bass player motion and some of the licks reminded me of him. If you can, please let me know. Thanks,

  • @wysiwyg248 - On a few shots, you can tell that it's an Acoustic 360 amp on the bass. That's what Jaco used. If this was in the early '70s, chances are it was him. I saw Wayne Cochran just by chance in '73, long before I knew who Jaco was, and I still remember the bass player and that amp. His playing was never better than with Wayne, imo.

  • @gweimer

Hi, some of the comments indicate this was the Dinah Shore, '75 or '76. Jaco was long gone, recording his own album or playing with Blood, Sweat and Tears by then. I agree he was in the best shape when playing with Wayne.

  • @gweimer

Hi, see above Randy Emerick's reply. Bass player is Dave Cox.

  • @catgaddis - good to have the detail...a lot of energy on that stage!

  • This guy was a definite original. I had to be about 12 when I saw him, and he ripped it up. It was/is anexperience I have never forgotten. The Gator from the Florida Swamps deserves to be in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame!!!!!

  • I vote for the Hall of Fame. Oh Yeah! What a band! What a show! Thanks for the post. Whatever happened to these guys?

  • The last I heard Wayne was an ordained minister living in Georgia. He has a web site that I haven't checked out for a long time, I think I will right now.

  • I previously said Wayne was in Georgia, actually as another poster said he now has a church in Florida.

  • In the early 70s I was playing trumpet with a group in Chicago at Lally's and on our break we would go over to Rush UP when Wayne was in town and just take it in. Wild energy, the place went insane. In the late 70s I worked in a band opposite him in Chicago and almost replaced a leaving trumpet player, but the guy ended up staying, damn. If anybody should be in a Hall Of Fame it should be him and all the various editions of the CC Riders. I feel sorry for anyone who missed seeing them live.

  • The Rush Up, Mothers, Faces-Chase also played those clubs---did you ever catch them?

  • The Blues Brothers group was a take off of Wayne and The Riders. At the end of the Blues Brothers movies they even credit Wayne in the credits. When I was worked him a fews years after this, he had a larger and more explosive group. They really kicked ass !! He added a trombone player (my buddy Foster) and another sax player.

  • I saw Wayne & the Riders several times during college. If he was in the state...I went..what a show. Great energy...he had the entire place dancing...on tables,chairs....it was a group thing, the whole housed rocked..big , big time.

I just loved the horn section...all the moves together...when they weren't playing they were putting down some moves..you guys definitely kicked ass!!

Thanks for those most excellent times!! The Salukis of Southern Illinois salute you!

  • More of a showman than a true originator, but a hugely exciting entertainer nonetheless. The hall of fame is nothing but a morgue for artists no longered considered threatening to the status quo.

  • Wayne got respect out of performers like James Brown and Otis Redding , because he MEANT it and he FELT it. Of course the feeling was mutual with Elvis , though I've never heard that Wayne designed his capes(Not saying he did'nt.).Wayne resembles Chalie Feathers , here (And that's GOOD.).

  • it IS Lee Thornberg, I never knew he played w Wayne...then T-Don is playing lead right? T-Don was there for years, I think he replaced Jullian Sparks (sp)? Not sure

  • actually looks a lot like Lee Thornburg on trumpet with the long hair

  • It is. With T-Don Capron and John Berry.

  • First live concert I ever saw...what a nut...but lets face it....its James Brown...now aint it...?

  • MORE!!

    wayne was too tuff!!

    thanks to youtube!!

    this is the shit!

  • could not agree more with your take...

"this is the shit!"...thanks for sharing the goods!

  • Charlie Brent on guitar. Arranger for charts Wayne did. Check out the 'Cochran' LP. Brent arranged 'It Won't Be Long' for Chase on their ENNEA album.

  • Not Charlie on guitar. Lee Thornberg, T-Don Capron, Johnn Berry (trumpets). Bob Gable(bari), Jimmy Odgren (alto). Dave Cox (bass). Merv Griffin Show about 1976.

I was a CC Rider after this.

  • Is that T. Don Capron or Jullian Sparks on lead trumpet...can't tell what year this from, '70's for sure. I don't see Tony DeCaprio on guitar or Randy Emmerik on saxes. They were there '71-'72 time, as was Jaco. Hall 'o fame fo' sure!

  • Wayne could do it all and he was the one that designed the capes for Evis. A truly energetic and soulful performer who had one kickin band behind him. Great video

  • this must be rare

  • AWESOME!!! A TRUE SHOWMAN! The hardest working man in showbusiness that you never heard of... Ladies and gentlemen, Mister WAYNE COCHRAN!!!
