  • DON'T USE DISTILLED WATER!!!!!!My instructions said NO DISTILLED WATER!!!!

  • @liemtran0321 Really? It's been a while... And I use my well's water so I dan't really know, lol. Sorry for the miss direction!

  • i guess you can as you used water from a well. Thanks Bluestriops for all these great videos and its a shame your dont make more. Here's some ideas for videos. 1. How to make detritus for triops 2. What to feed triops 3. A triops dairy from hatchling to adult. ect ect. Thanks for your videos they have helped me so much espically the sand cleaning method.

  • @minecraftgod12 Rain water actually is what they naturally hatch from ^^ So you can try it, but depending on where you live, the rain may have toxins that will kill the triops after hatching...

  • @BluesTriops im not on about the triops. Iam getting from sea monkeys to add to my mini bedroom aquarium.

  • @minecraftgod12 Sea Monkeys are a form of salt water brine shrimp and need special care. Get a kit and follow the instructions in it for best results, the website sells additional "water conditioner" that is actually a salt mixture to make the fresh water into salt. Rain Water would be very ill suited for them, being fresh water.

  • please reply can you use rain water to hatch fairy shrimp and keep them in it?

  • i no this might sound mad bt do you need the water be be warm ???? kuz my lil bro has got triop park and we are not using a fish tank.

we are using the tank what can with it . will that be ok or not kuz the water is nt warm its cold.

  • @louiselovesjack

The water should remain about 75 or 80 degrees (f), and colder they won't live long, if at all. Hotter may vary. I've heard of them survivng in 120 degree water. Never tested it tho. Just buy a desk lamp and place a 100 watt bulb above the tank. Just keep an eye out for it going above 80 or below 75.

  • @MrEddieRubio

if your in the US then arizonafairyshrimp is your best bet. I've never had trouble with these eggs. They're the ones I used.

  • what do you do if you want to raise only 8 (more or less) fairy shrimp at once? Just keep them in the bottle and feed them?

  • @tkxdi 8 what? Fairy Shrimp it could be done in theory, but for Triops it couldn't be done. One would eat the others, and it could grow too large and die from the smaller size of the tank.

  • @BluesTriops bro i got one pregnant shrimp what should i do to make sure birth of babies?dont know any thing at all

     please reply soon

  • @SuperAaaaa123456

What kind of shrimp? Fairy Shrimp and Triops will just deposit eggs like waste and they will settle into the substrate. Triops will eat these eggs.

If you mean Red Cherry shrimp or other dwarf shrimp then they will need places to hide and a sponge at your filter intake will help. Fish will eat these baby shrimp if they are in the tank.

  • @BluesTriops thanks for your reply but sadly my shrimp is dead today

  • Ummm I've tried hatching them once i followed every guideline watched every video and didn't get it right could it be something wrong with the eggs oh and the eggs and nutrients are stickingnto the side any suggestions?

  • @AisyBooBoo

It's possible. If you got them from an aquasaur kit then you can bet they aren't good.

And those nutrient things are wood. They will float and stick.

Is the water warm? 75 or so? And do you have a BRIGHT light over the tank? Like a 75 or 100 watt?

  • They eat brine shrimp to right.. they are cousins to fairy shrimp?

  • @Blueyary21

They will eat them, yes. But at a certain point, the triops will not be able to catch them. Then again, Brine Shrimp will die in the fresh water, lol.

I would att the fresh hatched brine shrimp the day the triops look big enough to eat them. The sooner, the better. More nutrition sooner means healthier adult lives.

  • @BluesTriops Well i see dead brine shrimp at the bottom of the container... sadly i ownly hatched one triop... but i cant tell if he is one or two days old... and if he just now hatched... so im waiting 4 more if there will be.... :P bye

  • @Blueyary21

She may eat them, she may not. But, it there is any salt at all, or the other triops eggs detect the decay of the dead brine shrimp, they will not hatch.

Also, even if they do, the older one will eat them. So only one may actually be a good thing!

She'll lay eggs, and from there you'll have better success at hatching them. The xrays kill most eggs that pass under them.

  • you cant use the water from your sink

  • @asdfghjkl91198

    No you can't.

    Chemicals will kill triops

  • where did you buy that bag of fairy shrimps?

  • @rebelporro

A seller by the name of arizonafairyshrimp

They sell directly from the website, but also on ebay.

They only sell to continental united states.

  • i am ordering triops from scholastic and my question is, can i use tap water instead of distilled or spring water

  • @tanuj12345678910

    Short answer: NOOOO!!!

Tap water has chlorine and other harsh chemicals. It also has copper and other metals that are DEADLY to crustaceans.

  • I have a small triop tank, which came in a kit,

after a generation of triops passed, i noticed eggs in the sand. If I want to hatch them, do I just add water or do I need detritus.? I'm using store bought kits with tiny tanks and food.

I would like a way of regrowing triops without having to buy a kit each and every time

Unlike my seamonkeys, which also lay eggs, but continuously hatch, triops seem harder to raise. I've had one sea monkey kit that is over 2 years old,

  • @SgtHamster45

    Dry out the sand.

Let it stay dry for about 2 and a half weeks.

Add water (treat the sand like the starter kit, you don't have to use all of it. Fewer eggs means less cannibalism. But more hatches means overall healthier adults due to the cannibalism.)

The detritus can be substituted with an ounce of clean pond water. If you have one near by go scoop some up =D (Try to get some water fleas, Triops love them!)

  • ONLY one hatched of mine any help? im getting more eggs soon so tips?

  • @joshuamorganhenderso

Thats a really common problem. Often mailed eggs have been damaged by the xrays in the mail. The eggs cook and die.

If you got at least one egg to hatch you shouldn't have too big of a problem. After all, Triops often eat each other and one is normally left. So if it is a female you'll get eggs. Those egg's hatch better (after being dried for at least a full month) then the mail ordered ones. If you can get it to adulthood now is the trick =D Good luck!

  • @BluesTriops thanks, well i ordered more food and eggs incase this one dies, my house is really called all the time and dark so it's just a hope it stays alive thing, i use a lamp what i leave on for 12 hours and it gives heat but during the night i can't keep it on

  • @BluesTriops i'm getting some eggs from the makers of triops, so that might be a mistake... but the one i have was born early

  • @joshuamorganhenderso

    Aquasaurs?

Are you within the united states?

And what do you mean "was born early"?

  • @joshuamorganhenderso is was born after 2 hours and im in theuk

  • @joshuamorganhenderso

right around 2 weeks it my start to lay a mess of eggs.

  • Hey BlueTriops,

I have about 7-9 triops hatched in my container. 30 minutes ago, I found about 5 white specks that look very similar to that of the triops I had rescued from the container but these were immobile and didn't seem to be alive. Do you know if triop larvae leave their moulted exoskeleton behind like crayfishes? Those white specks seem to be exactly the same size as the triops I just rescued, and moved to another container.

  • @kewlgoku1990

They do. But those may be anything else too. From unhatched eggs to other creatures. Keep an eye on them (I am so late XD sorry)

What did they end up being? Any adult Triops?

  • I poured spring water (bottled) into a container, opened the triop eggs above the water, placed it on my window, and allowed the natural sunlight to hatch the eggs. Its 90-98 degrees now. What do you feel about this method?

  • @kewlgoku1990

If it worked for you, then it's all that mattered. =3

  • @BluesTriops I checked my container and found one white speck about 1/2 of a mm moving around on the bottom of the tank. So far I haven't seen any other white specks moving around yet. Thank you for answering, I am very honored to speak to you.

  • hey i put the eggs . its been 3 days and nothing has happened, all the debris (brown things) have stayed in the sides of the tank what do i do?

  • @Luigitoz Is the water warm? Is there light?

Freshly hatched are tiny. Might just not be seeing them.

Or your eggs could be duds. Triasic Triops is often the easiest eggs to get, but I've never had any hatch for me.

  • if u use distilled water, do u hav to use water conditioner?

  • @soccercat1 conditioner? Do you mean the little pack of dirt looking stuff that comes with the kits?

  • should i shake the Triop egss like you do in the vid i have never seen this before only in hatching brine shrimp pumping air for 18 hours or so

  • I was wondering if i mix fairy shrimp eggs with my triop eggs when he triops hatch could the fairy shrimps be used as a food supply for the triops. I like your videos by the way

  • @vassilis359995 They would most certainly be used as food =P Triops love eating fairy shrimp! Triops will eat most of them within the first week. If any are left they might actually survive and help keep the water clear =D

  • Thank you sir coz i wantet to avoid crushing pellets and making the water dirty

  • Oh and also do baby triops eat spirulina??

  • @vassilis359995 I don't know.... But baby Triops are filter feeders till day 2 or 3, so you're still better off with some kinda micro organisms in the water. A crushed pellet might not be a bad idea, at least till they can eat larger foods(prey)

  • So i should feed them pellet food on the 2nd day?

  • @vassilis359995 Crush it up really well and mix it with water so it becomes suspended. You want them to be able to eat it =P

  • Its weird coz the instructions tell me to feed them day 2 thats why im worried i dont wanna kill them by polluting the water if they not gonna eat it untill day 2 or 3

  • sorry i made a mistake the instructions tell me to feed them day 1 i mean

  • @vassilis359995 Just do one pellet. Follow your instructions =P Feed them when you start seeing some swimming. Once you start to see them (the day after you put the eggs in the water if the batch is good) That is day one ^^

  • Man your videos are awesome

  • Hay Blues i have heard using water from a pond to hatch Triops eggs is a good idea coz it contains lots of nutrients is that true?? should i risk doing this??

  • @vassilis359995 It could be done, but I've never tried. It will eliminate the need for detritus if you get healthy enough water.

  • man your so helpful whats 2/3 of a liter isnt that just over half a liter? my maths is crap thats how much water i must add

  • @vassilis359995 Should be a little over half, yes. I'm no good at math and actually just guess most of the time ^^;

  • cool! Only a couple questions: firstly, do you absolutely need a big tank and all of thst other equipment to grow these guys and where do you get the eggs from?

  • @Pieishman I would really suggest a 10 gallon tank, but it isn't really needed. You could keep them in a bucket and they will be happy. Trouble is, most people thing that Triops don't need space, but I follow the rule of thumbs for tropical fish. One gallon per inch of fish. But, then again, I've only managed to have 3 live to reproduce. They eat the smaller ones. The Heater is very useful, but you can use a bright light to regulate temperature. I use both. The LIGHT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

  • oh and any other advice for someone just starting?

  • hey i am just starting to get into triops, i saw one of the kits and said thats cool but instead i just bought eggs off of ebay so right now i looked up triop info and so what i have is triop eggs 2 live plants a lamp/heater tropical fish food and aquarium gravel with a 20" by 10" tank and plan to get snails but other than those items what else will i need and im gonna hatch them just the way you did it in the video but will the lamp/heater i have work with the bottle or do i need a lamp

  • Excelent! Shaking it up must get them real soaked and alert! Sometimes the eggs stick to the tank and if you didn't put them in water and shake them beforehand, they will stick at the surface wall and eventually re-dry out.

How long does it take for most fairy shrimp to hatch? Or is it almost instant alike Sea-Monkeys?

  • @Sakano According to the guy who I bought the Fairy Shrimp from, the shortest hatch he ever seen was about 5 hours. Shortest for me, was about 7. But for most eggs, I'd say about 24 hours. Just like Triops.
