Search for Differential, and how it works. After you know how differential works, you understand that it have to sometimes be "turned off", to get forward. Locker actually turns differential off, and gives exactly same amount of power for both wheels on the same axle.
so you have a rear/front deffirential. on a negative differential if a tire losses contact with the ground it will keep spining, making it take all the power from the oposit wheel, a locker locks the spining wheel, giving the same amount of power to both wheels....
a locker is some thing that gives traction to both wheels...
