I live in Michigan right by the beach, do you know if you can shoot panfish, and game fish, (salmon, walleye, steelhead) with the speargun? What regulations are there?
Michigan has a whole set of different laws when it comes to spearfishing. I don't know them exactly, but I THINK they are: Rough Fish only! should be posted in a FISHING REGULATIONS or a "SPEARING AND NETTING" Regulations like they are here. We (in Wisconsin) can shoot Pan Fish and Rough Fish - No game fish.
@gravity5 - Actually I wanted to see the difference FISH FERTILIZER is compared to fert. bought at a feed mill. It was amazing! I covered 1 acre with Carp and disc it in before planting a food plot and fert the same plants NEXT to that food plot and the one with the carp was twice as tall, twice as lush! It was great!!!
some fresh water are realy tasty like the fan fish you said but you can not compare thet fish between grouper or lavrak coese thet fishes are too damn goodd!!!
Are you serious? Pan fish are awesome! there is nothing that taste better than Perch. We don't shoot game fish- which is what most people Catch and Release. We shoot Carp cause they are vile
@cruizer8293 You're dumb as dirt. Perch and walleye are two of the best tasting fish in the water, fresh or salt. Go back to Walmart and get your frozen Gorton thingys (God only knows what fish parts their made of) and pretend you're smart.
Bull sharks have never been found in Lake Michigan. They could not survive the climate/temperatures. However, they have been known to inhabit some freshwater areas such as Lake Nicauraugua in S. America and the Zambezei River in Africa.
Very nice video, im new to the sport of freediving spearfishing and I didnt know people did it in WI, makes me wish I was back in IL......Happy hunting this coming winter...
Wow, didn't know you can dive in those lakes over there. What else is there to shoot other than carp? They are huge but seem to be a little dumb. They let you come up and shoot them like that, or do they give you a little more sport. The vid seems to make them look like they just sit there. I'm jsut curious. Peace
I found that the Carp in Lake Michigan are less skittish- other lakes in WI- as soon as the carp see's you- they take off. BUT we can also shoot Panfish (bluegills, sunfish, perch, crappies) and ROUGHFISH (Carp, Suckers, Gar, Burbot, Bullheads, Rock Bass, Stripe Bass, Redhorse, Shads, ect) It's weird the Perch in lakes other than Lake Michigan are very calm- But to hunt them in Lake Mich can be difficult and takes a good breath hold (to get the BIG Perch)
love the fact u guys use flote lines in 15 ft of water to shoot 20 inch fish, never no what the hell might happen underwater. but what the heck, u guys arent bubble blowers so more power to u
LOL- The reason for the float lines is to pull our flags around- some, attach the line to their body- I prefer to have it on my gun- In the event I shoot a BIG Carp- I can let go and let it pull the float instead of holding on and having the spear rip out. They Carp tend to get a little bit bigger than 20" - the biggest one shot this year was 43# and about 39" long. The Float line is also My stringer- called a speed stringer- i detach at the guns handle and slide it through the gills.

Those appear to be carp. Why bother? I mean, I'm not against culling a few carp, but why not go after a fish that you actually want to eat?
bigdatut 1 year ago
@bigdatut - If there are fish around that we will eat- we shoot them too. Seems that Carp are more abundant.

fresh water fish don't taste good enough to justify this, thats why 90% of freshwater fishing is catch and release

Not true, blue gill, trout(lake and brook), walleye, catfish, perch, freshwater salmon, are all highly sought after in many regions.

there have been bull sharks found in lake michigan
postytez 2 years ago
this is true. But, I think our chances are very unlikely of seeing one. I wouldn't mind seeing one out there.
