if i had a mission with a very high probability of combat i would choose the defiantclass,but if i had a mission with the combat expectation very low i would take my favorite class, an ambassador class ship! i like just about all of the fed ships except the frankenstine fleet! the defiants only post refit flaw is it has no longrange mission capabilities!

No, no, DS9 (Terok Nor) was originally used by the Cardassians as a mining station to process ore mined from somewhere else (Bajor itself?). While it was a fully capable station (it would, however, dobutless have to source fuels and other supplies from somewhere, though I'm sure it could stock suifficent supplies to operate independtantly for quite some time), it wasn't particularly battle worthy at first (the Federation refitted it with heavy weapons platforms)...

Defiant has modified shield generators from the galaxy class and type 10 pulse phasers plus quantum torps so could destroy a Galaxy in a 1 on 1-The Eneterprise E though is about 3 times stronger than the Galaxy.

It would also depend on which Defiant-there are 3 of them. The Original Defiant class Defiant was the only one with a cloaking device so using the 2nd Defiant would be putting the captain at a disadvantage. The Lakota gave the Defiant a run for its money but the Sovereign has Type 12 phasers that were designed for planetary defence-the Defiants shields will not last long against them regardless of captain.

The Defiant was built for battle, northing more. as such its systems and armament were made solely for it.

Its small size and maneuverability make it deadly in combat, and if placed in a prolonged 1v1 with most ships it would win flat out.

But is it effective on a prolonged battle with out backup? Doubtful. Its best used as a strike ship. Made for quick and decisive attacks

Its a destroyer class purely offensive. There is a reason galaxy class starship are on its flanks. the large capital ship class vessels would tear the defiant a new aft shuttle bay (pun intended) if allowed to corner it.
