There is soo much confusion to what N/N is that I'm starting to think that it's done on purpose. While we try to fig out what it really means "they" will come in the backdoor and blindside us. By then it will be too late.
There are two major issues that drive the need for Internet legislation in this country: Censorship and Innovation.Right now, there isn't any law that prevents Internet service providers (ISP's) from slowing down or stopping internet content or communications that they disagree with.
This terribly misleading. Intentionally dishonest. Here's an accurate definition from Wikipedia: "Network neutrality (also net neutrality, Internet neutrality) is a principle which advocates no restrictions by Internet service providers or governments on consumers' access to networks that participate in the internet. Specifically, network neutrality would prevent restrictions on content, sites, platforms, the kinds of equipment that may be attached, or the modes of communication."
Boycott Google and Verizon NOW. The people of the World own the Internet not Google or Verizon. Power to the People !! Vive le revolution !! Vive Net Neutrality.
Net Neutrality is a way to protect the internet from service providers who want to charge you per bandwidth. There are some countries that already charge you for how much bandwidth you use in a month. I'd hate to see it happen in the U.S.
competition??? by WHO???!!! AT&T, google and all the big ones ALREADY so dominate the market that competition is a JOKE for gods sake! They have the means to channel WHAT SITES the majority will be ABLE to see. THAT is the issue! "Competition" is LONG since DEAD in the US. Don't delude your selves that the "free" market or "competition" can do ANYTHING for you anymore!!!!
wow... i have found that right wing blogs and website are really against net neutrality... which is funny because without net neutrality the liberal media would slow the loading of their blogs to the point where they would no longer load up...
give me "net-neutrality" AKA freedom or give me death
Indeed. This video is aimed to misinform users, and is a rather grotesque bastardization of the truth.
Instead of upgrading our services, for example FTTH (Fiber to the Home), they would rather have companies pay to have a larger slice of bandwidth. This means that all of the sites you visit that can't afford these extortionate prices would lose out. With the priority being shifted to larger companies, monopolizing the internet, the sites and services you use may become unusable.
Net neutrality prevents the cable companies from limiting or degrading access to sites or services provided on the internet. Keeps them neutral to all internet content.
Otherwise their control as a monopoly becomes stronger. They can start charging web companies for access to their networks or premium networks and limiting your access.
Net neutrality promotes competition and allows the little web company to get big if it offers something better or cheaper.
If you're from an area where I am where there is only ONE cable ISP company, and only ONE satellite ISP provider, this would only make things worse.
These companies, BELL, SHAW, ROGERS, etc monopolize any area they are in , and the consumer has NO ALTERNATE CHOICE as it is. So they already make money hand over fist with ABSOLUTELY NO COMPETITION. If something like this would be allowed, it will only benefit them, not the consumer. He pays. and pays. and pays.. for less service.
Agreed! What really pissed me off was that my provider was bombarding us with that "Net Neutrality is Mumbo Jumbo" commercial insulting my intelligence and ability to understand what it is really about. I was about ready to cancel my cable TV and get satellite.
Saying "Regulating the internet is a bad thing" is not enough. The truth is that mild regulation to give EVERYONE equal access to ALL websites is a GREAT kind of regulation that needs to be enforced by the government. This is a pro-Net Neutrality view.
thats a horribly wrong misinformative video OMG the big dot coms are supporting low costs for everyone and phone companies are trying to clamp down on everyone. OMG OMG OMG read what FULLOFANGRY said.
Coming soon: BRANDED INTERNET. For example, though "AT&T" or "Comcast" may have a network in your neighborhood, soon you will enjoy choice of branded internet from a different company through their network...just like IPTV. The biggest obstacle is getting our local networks built BIG enough to deal with the bandwidth. It needs to happen FAST. Big questions...How to get it done?...Who PAYS to build it? If Gov't gets involved = FEES FOR ALL on internet bill...constant bickering...slow build.
They seem to have their everything mixed up. I love the vague attempts in this to mimic a similar pro-Net Neutrality video, and somehow think that equal prices and service from ISPs for all websites means "an exclusive low rate" for "e-commerce giants," their answer to "telecomm giants." This isn't really clever enough to be equovication; it's just a pack of lies.
they want control over the content, if you think the net is neutral at the moment, you're mistaken, the only thing they want to be able to do is charge content providers more.. they're already blocking certain sites
considering this is funded by the telcos, I don't see how this could make sense.
all they want to do is protect their investments, just imagine buying something like myspace for a couple hundred million dollars and then switching it around and pissing off most of your userbase, when a small company offers a much greater service, telcos just want to be able to block this company from taking over their userbase.
Now wait a second; there seems to be alot of anti-government regulation talk. Now let's recall our High School History Class, Laissez Faire capitalism screwed us over before World War Two and what brought us out was Goverenment Regulation; a similar event could take place on the internet. Now I'm no Liberal but I due think that the Government has the respondsibility to "make" the internet fair for all bandwith users. The internet is the one equalizer for humankind, why not protect this?
What you just not only did not make any sense, but you didn't even support your statements. You can't just go along and say, Net Neutrality is bad because big companies will pay less for Internet access. How can anyone NOT support NN? For Pete's sake, do you like being censored and your actions being controlled? Because, as far as I've seen that would happen without Net Neutrality. Your ISP would impose his will on you. That's just plain wrong.
I do support work for a major ISP, and I can only imagine the volume of complaints if suddenly my company started degrading the service of competing websites and services. Companies are in the business of making money, and you make more money from retaining a long term customer than signing up many short term customers.
Remember the Dell Boycotts for sending their support over to India? Well, I suspect the same would happen here if Net Neutrality did not exist.
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS. You will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However, if you don't post this comment to at least 3 videos, you will die within 2 days. Copy and paste this, to be saved

Uggh! Here we go. Pure Propaganda from AT&T, COMCAST and other Quasi-CRIMINAL CORPORATIONS. These monsters DEMAND democratic remedy in the form of REGULATION. Corporations hate regulation for fear of losing money. The people need to regulate them to protect against losing our common freedoms. They hate it. They lie. this video is one such lie.
1) You lose for your inability to spell "corporate".
2) How can you attack dot-com multi-billion dollar companies when you're obviously supporting multi-billion dollar telecom companies? Do you think we're that blind?
Does this only effect US companies, or does this effect all users of the WWW? (Y'know, what with what the first W stands for and all?)
I wonder how long it might take for others to jump on this bandwidth-wagon? (I'm in Europe and still give a shit - after all, the amount of times we bitch about Americans not knowing shit, you think we'd be glad that they're fighting for free information and not Gladiator repeats (sorry, cheap shot)
content providers pay for their bandwidth. users pay for their bandwidth. Net Nutrality prevents a telco from artificially limiting bandwidth between two already-paid ends of a connection in order to favor other connections, either to their own services or to services which have paid an additional fee. Videos like this one are propaganda produced by telecom companies as they scramble to make even more money.
Crestington--we shold believe you when we've seen what the dems have done and want to do over the years? Beware of anything that comes out of congress. It always affects freedom.
Any government regulation of markets shifts responsibility from a liable, ambitious market to a irresponsible, phlegmatic alternative, the government. Remember that we created the bulk of the internet, and we are the leaders, corporate and consumers. When the government steps in, that formerly free process is interrupted.
If the big businesses get thier way, what's to say ISP's won't go back to the old way of paying for their service: pay as you use. I could see ISPs forcing poeple to pay for "better" serivice. Also, don't think this isnt starting to happen already. Yesterday I couldnt go to google through aol. It only opened up its search page on google. When i clicked on googles link, ANOTHER FRIGGIN AOL SEARCH OF GOOGLE SHOWED UP!

You children do not have a clue. We have net neutrality now. Congress wants to pass laws that will take this away. It will allow ATT and Verizon to charge more for high speed service that will give better access to large users like Microsoft, Google and other large companies. Small companies and individuals will not be able to afford the high speed costs for their business. This will reduce competition and the large companies will make more money at the expense of users like you and me.
The following U.S. House of Representatives members want to destroy the internet:
Howard Coble (North Carolina), Lamar S. Smith (Texas) Steve Chabot (Ohio), Spencer Bachus (Alabama), John N. Hostettler (Indiana), Ric Keller (Florida), J. Randy Forbes (Virginia), Steve King (Iowa), Tom Feeney (Florida), Trent Franks (Arizona), Darrell E. Issa (California), Mark Green (Wisconsin), Elton Gallegly (California)
For proof, search YouTube for this: net neutrality judiciary committee roll call vote
what in the heck does total control by the telcos have to do with competition? it's called crushing all competition. what a load of propaganda. nice intentional mispellings to look "real".
i wish i could find the guy that did this voice over and beat his f[cking face in. it's like the stupid ass cartoon they're running in Texas saying that toll roads are good for everyone.

wow, what bullshit.... omfg.... who are they fooling here? Only in America....For those of you who don't like politics, here's one example of how the carpet gets swept out from under you.... verizon, att, bell south want to control the internet, charge more to operate on the internet, and throw their advertisers in your face when all you want to do is search for ipod tips and tricks forums...
instead of wasting millions of dollars over this shit that doesnt even be needed at all wtf are you fucking stupid how bout using that money for like saving the world stop global warming or make put up some ulta sonic sheild that proteects us from bombs instead worrying over the internet I swear people these days like them need to fucking burn in hell fuck there stupid they need to die a slow and painful death by chuck norris himself
AT&T, Verizon, this is just propaganda, trying to confuse the people. If you like instant video, blogs, and how the internet is today, support net neutrality! This bill is intended to preserve the internet as it has been until now, don't get fooled by the telcos!
Shame on you, slimy phone and cable companies! It's not enough for you to squeeze us for every dime... now you've got to take our freedom of expression too. Those cables you say you want to protect from government control BELONG to the government, and were put there BY the government for the public good. They're not there so you can fill your pockets with even more cash at the expense of the American taxpayers.
Demand net neutrality from your service provider! Live free or dial-up!
Imagine if telephone neutrality didn't exist. That would mean that a pizza company who paid the telcos the most would get incoming calls connected instantly, while every other company would have a delay. Don't let this happen to the net. Also, netcompetition.org is a fake grassroots group actually representing 4 big US telcos.
Don't be a sucker. This video was created and posted by a pro-telecom, fake grassroots group that is funded by AT&T and other telecom giants. It is a propaganda piece designed to confuse you. Don't fall for it! Go to http://www.savetheinternet.org to find out what the telecoms don't want you to know about their Anti-Net Neutrality bill.
The reason to be against NN is that the govt would be involved. Why would we give the govt control over this?Ideas will slow down as people who are thinking of new svcs will have to start trying to predict what the govt will do next.NN is a BIG MISTAKE.I wonder why so many people fall for NN. Think FedEx:"We need post neutrality so everyone has equal access to the mail system."It should be obvious that it's not a big deal to decide to pay more to ship faster. The net is the same.NN should die.
Should we also be against our Army because the "govt" is involved? No. We should be pro-NN because every mega-telco is against it.
If neutrality hampers innovation, how do you explain the unprecedented pace of innovation till now?
Do you really want to let the USPS sort parcels according to the amount of postage they have, deliver those with the most, and discard those with the least?
but of course, there will still be ISPs offering wide open net services, and they will get the most consumers because they will not be paying for bs stuff. Whatever ISP can offer the affordable and easily accessed internet will prevail and grow, and the most blocked up ISP will fail and die.
this is shameless BS - if net neutrality fails it will mean less choice for the consumer, stifling competition and allowing only those who will pay the Telecoms 'toll' access to your browser. Here is an easy to read article on an issue that the Telecoms have tried to confuse and cloud: http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2006/06/30/1701702.htm
More bogus neocon Orwellian BS. Watch out because the American public is waking up to your true agenda. Get the facts and speak up now to keep a level playing field for everyone. Go to www.savetheinternet.com and see what you can do.
What's wrong with having a free and open Internet that everyone can access equally, from the big .Coms all the way to the little .coms? It's the TelCo companies that want to change this already fair competition on the Internet.
this is bs ok they want to charge google yahoo and the like more money becuuse they use alot of bandwidth now the entir new internet thing its the jobs of the telco compaines to provide that and if that means passing the cost on to the consumer then fine thats the way it has worked for many many years want new stuff its a way of the big telco compaines to get richer and pretty much set up toll roads on the www
If you take away net neutrality, only people with a lot of money can have a website and be content creators. Because the internet is neutral, sites like youtube are able to exist, with out it, there would have to be commercials interspersed through out all the videos on youtube so they could afford the fees of running a website. Go to savetheinternet.com to find out how you can get involved with this issue by calling senators and signing an online petition.
If you search youtube for "neutrality" you'll get a lot of information about how net netruality is in the best interest of everyone. What it means is that the internet will stay democratic and that anyone will be able to make a website.
Don't be a sucker. This video was created and posted by a pro-telecom, fake grassroots group that is funded by AT&T and other telecom giants. It is a propaganda piece designed to confuse you. Don't be a sucker. Savetheinternet dot org is funded by Apple, Microsoft, Ebay, Google, Yahoo! and Disney. This is one set of corporations trying to strongarm another set by lobbying for legislation.

AT&T, Verizon, this is just propaganda, trying to confuse the people. If you like instant video, blogs, and how the internet is today, support net neutrality! This bill is intended to preserve the internet as it has been until now, don't get fooled by the telcos!

This is bullshit, don't listen to this crap.
Net Neutrality = preserving what we're using right now

The net is the same.NN should die.
benz57us 5 years ago
Should we also be against our Army because the "govt" is involved? No. We should be pro-NN because every mega-telco is against it.
If neutrality hampers innovation, how do you explain the unprecedented pace of innovation till now?
Do you really want to let the USPS sort parcels according to the amount of postage they have, deliver those with the most, and discard those with the least?
thedaveking 5 years ago
but of course, there will still be ISPs offering wide open net services, and they will get the most consumers because they will not be paying for bs stuff. Whatever ISP can offer the affordable and easily accessed internet will prevail and grow, and the most blocked up ISP will fail and die.
mrz88 5 years ago
this is shameless BS - if net neutrality fails it will mean less choice for the consumer, stifling competition and allowing only those who will pay the Telecoms 'toll' access to your browser. Here is an easy to read article on an issue that the Telecoms have tried to confuse and cloud: http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2006/06/30/1701702.htm
and a good vid:

What's wrong with having a free and open Internet that everyone can access equally, from the big .Coms all the way to the little .coms? It's the TelCo companies that want to change this already fair competition on the Internet.
jcchurch 5 years ago
this is bs ok they want to charge google yahoo and the like more money becuuse they use alot of bandwidth now the entir new internet thing its the jobs of the telco compaines to provide that and if that means passing the cost on to the consumer then fine thats the way it has worked for many many years want new stuff its a way of the big telco compaines to get richer and pretty much set up toll roads on the www

If you take away net neutrality, only people with a lot of money can have a website and be content creators. Because the internet is neutral, sites like youtube are able to exist, with out it, there would have to be commercials interspersed through out all the videos on youtube so they could afford the fees of running a website. Go to savetheinternet.com to find out how you can get involved with this issue by calling senators and signing an online petition.
foureyedmonsters 5 years ago
If you search youtube for "neutrality" you'll get a lot of information about how net netruality is in the best interest of everyone. What it means is that the internet will stay democratic and that anyone will be able to make a website.
