I bought a new Kenworth T700 this past May with the MX 485 engine. It is extremely quiet, extremely smooth. I was impressed with the "factory" bypass oil filter which, per paccar owners manual, lets me go 40,000 miles on an oil change. (That is with regular Delo oil). I have averaged all miles to date, empty, loaded, heavy, light, mountains, etc including idling at 7.33 mpg. I maintain 65 mph on cruise. Only downfall is that it is very weak on power. 13 speed with 3:55 rears on 22.5 LP rubber.
yep i see your point about long haul ...but it is a dutch designed engine ,and initially for the states till paccar got their engine plant over your way built .. eindhoven built and shipped to the states ...i also worked on 1 of the prototypes that DAF had put in a customers vehicle to trial .when it had an issue...i did my MX engine course ,in 2006 and we have been using the egine from 2005 ...so i have been working on them for 6 years min.product improvement is an ongoing thing
I'll take an old mechanical engine all day long over these over computerized junkboxes. I've NEVER owned an electronic truck engine, and I'm NOT about to start now. Prices on older mechanical trucks has gone up because of engine companies making it so you have to go to the dealer to get it serviced.....not for me
@fuddmethen Oh the irony of you dissing "computerized junkboxes" as you sit on a COMPUTER and type that comment. Technology improves everything, including engines.
i work at daf ,why you not mention about cam followers that brake up and daf ask us to put in new short block, the upec was much better, and one more terrible thing is if turbo goes you might have a good chance to hydraulic the conrods my opinion 6 out of10
have been working on the MX engine for a few years now.(in the uk)..pretty reliable ,and hopefully the teething problems are sorted now you are using it ..i guess paccar where refining it for the u.s ,after all it is a DUTCH engine ,designed and built by DAF trucks in eindhoven, though will be assembled at PACCARS new engine plant ,when fully up and running
@72Silverstar .with EPA10 being stricter than EURO5 ,we currently just use SCR ,there appears to be some minor differences between the euro and epa engine ,mainly filters by the looks of it .Fuel wise ,they are just as efficent as the older engines, though that is the same for all manufacturers,it pulls like a train. ...do you work for a paccar dealer???hopefuly any teething problems should be ironed out when get it
@norb0254 Actually, if you want to get technical...the basic idea was from Europe but it needed modifications to perform correctly in the North American Market. Since long haul in Europe is maybe the distance across Nebraska, it needed to be beefed up to handle long haul here. Things learned from here were taken back to PACCAR owned DAF division and then were applied to the European engines for more durability. So really, this engine is PACCAR designed...being that DAF is owned by PACCAR.

i work at daf and the difference between the mx euro 5 and epa 10 are not only filters but epa 10 also has exhaust gas recirculation ;)
also the fuel consumption is very low for a powerful engine like this consumption is about 1 liter diesel to 4 kilometers

@norb0254 We are excited to be getting the chance to sell this engine here in the US. We hope it performs as well as it looks on paper.
Have you experienced any reliability issues? How does it perform against other engines in relation to fuel economy?

I work in the engineplant in Eindhoven, still building about 40 EPA10 engines (as we call it) for the States. I'll bet you will love the euro6 too.
