I bought this album totally at random when I was in high school. I just thought the cover was cool and bought it on a whim. The whole album is awesome, but this song especially blew me away.
I'm still mesmerized by his voice. Always have been. This song brings back sweet feelings of hearing Rheostatics for the first time and straining to hear all the details of their music.
@ mykadia, yes I was watching the Monty Python special, giggle! I found the album this song comes from online at Six Shooter Records, placed an order by phone (thanks, Kaitlyn), and mailed my payment today :-).
I heard the Sarah Slean/Art Ensemble version of this on Bravo last night. I found out it was a cover here on youtube, and then tracked this video. Both versions are very compelling. How have I never heard of this man? I will be visiting my record store soon. Thank you for posting this breath of fresh air.
Martin Tielli was a singer/songwriter for the Rheostatics, the 'biggest band you've never heard of'. Their newest (and last) album is 2067, one of my favorite songs is 'The Tarleks', in which he is the lead singer. There is a music video on youtube for it.
What a beautiful thing Martin Tielli is. Every time I see him I want to buy him an island he can live on and rule and have an endless supply of everything.
The actual disk is called something like "We never even expected the poppy salesman", from 2001. Martins absoltely one of my favourite Canadian signers. Does anyone know if he got his falsetto back after the Rheos last show?
Just the way I love to see this man perform. No frills, just the amazing one with his incredible voice, guitar and ability to creat songs like even the most celebrated can not touch. Not even close.
Accept for the fact that Martin has been in the biz longer and moving people beyond what mere mortals like Dave Matthews can and Ryan Cabrera (especially) can ever dream of depite thier being produced right into your living room.

Nobody sounds like Martin Tielli. You want to cover his songs, but they're really only great in his hands. Gorgeous video! Thanks so much!

If you have ever heard Martin cover Joni Mitchell's 'River' you will be changed for life. It is amazing but sadly hard to find.

This is *uncanny*. I am in exactly in the same position. Weird. I hope you were watching the Monty Python special too.

anyone know where I can get this CD? the record stores here don't carry it.

I'd order it. And remember it basically has no title, just the song names on the front.
