  • I bought this album totally at random when I was in high school. I just thought the cover was cool and bought it on a whim. The whole album is awesome, but this song especially blew me away.

  • Emotional music for men. Reminds me that I am not a robot.

  • I'm still mesmerized by his voice. Always have been. This song brings back sweet feelings of hearing Rheostatics for the first time and straining to hear all the details of their music.

  • Nobody sounds like Martin Tielli. You want to cover his songs, but they're really only great in his hands. Gorgeous video! Thanks so much!

  • why do I know exactly what he's saying?

  • I'd love to hear your interpretation, if you feel like it... If not, that's fine too...

  • dang. just the first note and the hairs on the back of my neck are up again. i will forever love this man.

  • @ mykadia, yes I was watching the Monty Python special, giggle! I found the album this song comes from online at Six Shooter Records, placed an order by phone (thanks, Kaitlyn), and mailed my payment today :-).

  • Where can I purchase this? Seriously? This level of musicianship is rare, and I'd be proud to play this in my home. All love, x.

  • I got mine on Itunes....get the whole 'poppy salesman' album, its wonderful.

  • Brilliant and beautiful. Amazing musician.

  • If you have ever heard Martin cover Joni Mitchell's 'River' you will be changed for life. It is amazing but sadly hard to find.

  • its on youtube!

  • Thanks so much, Brahmthexton! What a great find!

  • I heard the Sarah Slean/Art Ensemble version of this on Bravo last night. I found out it was a cover here on youtube, and then tracked this video. Both versions are very compelling. How have I never heard of this man? I will be visiting my record store soon. Thank you for posting this breath of fresh air.

  • This is *uncanny*. I am in exactly in the same position. Weird. I hope you were watching the Monty Python special too.

  • Martin Tielli was a singer/songwriter for the Rheostatics, the 'biggest band you've never heard of'. Their newest (and last) album is 2067, one of my favorite songs is 'The Tarleks', in which he is the lead singer. There is a music video on youtube for it.

  • Unreal

  • Sarah Slean's cover with the Art Ensemble is just as beautiful.

  • Shame about the audio glitches. This version has the best video quality on YT.

  • Simply. Brilliant.

  • This song is quite simply brilliant. Not even in the same realm as comprehension.

Swept me to a place i have never once been.

  • His video for this and From The Reel are live! Just as good as the real recordings.

  • What a beautiful thing Martin Tielli is. Every time I see him I want to buy him an island he can live on and rule and have an endless supply of everything.

  • anyone know where I can get this CD? the record stores here don't carry it.

  • I'd order it. And remember it basically has no title, just the song names on the front.

  • The actual disk is called something like "We never even expected the poppy salesman", from 2001. Martins absoltely one of my favourite Canadian signers. Does anyone know if he got his falsetto back after the Rheos last show?

  • where are you? its persistance man, youll get it, if you really want it.

  • I saw this on TV lastnight and thought it was fuckin awsome. I'm gunna go out and buy this CD today.

  • who directed this video?

  • Kind of like Video Inspired by Guy Maddin. I like it.

  • Yeah. Another one of Canada's finest exports.

  • stellar. so very excellent. my most sincere thanks for this.

  • Just the way I love to see this man perform. No frills, just the amazing one with his incredible voice, guitar and ability to creat songs like even the most celebrated can not touch. Not even close.

  • wow, it's like dave matthews and ryan cabrera had a kid together

  • Accept for the fact that Martin has been in the biz longer and moving people beyond what mere mortals like Dave Matthews can and Ryan Cabrera (especially) can ever dream of depite thier being produced right into your living room.

  • agreed...

  • Yay!!! I love this one!

  • A most amazing performer and writer. Thanks for posting this video :)

  • your welcome...
