When you own a little scooter, you soon learn alternative rounts to avoid the expressways. One way to do that is go to Google maps, put in your home address then the address of your destination and press the bicycle icon. Bicycle routes are all suitable for the Vino. Of course most interstates have the access roads on either side of the interstate and you can just follow those. Often they have very little traffic and you can make good time too. I even take my 50 cc on those roads with no problem
@karmuppet The only problem I have found with this is that often a simple access road that parallels an interstate, goes by several different names in different communities, so the travel instructions appear much more complicated than they actually are. I can go from San Antonio to Austin for example by following the access road beside it, yet the name of that road changes many times. If I have a complicated route, I just charge my Tom Tom and take it along. My phone has GPS too.Happy scooting.
Ive got a heavyduty vinyl canoe bag which I could strap to 50 cc beast and use saddle bags for booze and go on a ride about. I need more vacation weeks to do all this stuff like canoe trips, road trips in the RV now scamping lol
this is an adventure :) no need to spend 436356364 dollars on a HUGE oversized ktm motorbike that is called adventure ! thank you for your video :) ive got a 50cc scooter and im thinking about going for a trip like that :PPP =) your scoot looks so amazing with your stuff packed onto it !! super :D
I have a Yamaha 2007 Vino 125, no upgrades and I have almost 5,000 miles on it. Oh yeah, mostly road riding and did half of the Shenandoah National Park in VA and was trampled on by a doe and lived to tell the story. I had my helmet on thankfully, but 4 disks in neck messed up because of her attacking me. Oh, and note to the couple who watched as I was trampled by the doe and did nothing to help out, if you read this then*&)*(&()*holes. This was summer of 2007, thanks a lot, NOT!
They just watched you get attacked?! What kind of society are we living in these days, eh? I'd love to try "scamping" or go cross country. One couple did it from Vancouver, BC to Barrie, Ontario on a Yamaha C3!
Wow - I'd like to do that! For some reason thought it was a longer trip, tho that it's not is fine. Just goes to show - you don't need some big bruiser of a motorcycle to have fun and do some adventuring on two wheels!
I love this video! I would love to know the music, and also what video or helmet cam system you used. I want to do the same thing, and love camping in the rain. How far of a ride was that? I'm uplifted and inspired by you today, thank you.
Music was canned music from the video editing program...and for most of it I had a minidv cam in a bag under my arm....I would do things differently today....cams are much smaller and there's all kinds of nice mounts...it was about 75-80 miles one way
haha I know all about the fact that beck was born into the cult of scientology. There is no helping him get out of that crap! He still makes some pretty damn good music!
So, I launched a kite the morning i left....it was flying so good i captured it tied to my chair....then i decided to tie it to a bush, and leave it.....have no idea what happened to it after i left....but its great imagining....
I just bought an 08 yamaha vino today! I haven't gotten to drive it yet! I had no idea that so many people were driving these things all around! I guess that makes sense because I had such a hard time getting one! I never even heard of one till I was at the dealer lookinng at some other scooters! How far did you go on this trip? I have to drive 42 miles round trip every day and I was concerned that it wouldn't be good for longer distances.
Shoot I know someone who did thousands of miles on a honda spree (50cc)....all depends on if you have gonads of steel....btw scootings cool, but scientology's not.....find out about the cult that Beck was born into.....and help get him out.....
waw scooter camping , sounds more fun than the camper van . and what's the solution when the little ones come , children ? i have 3retro scooters myself , all 50cc . i sing to myself before i start my journey.."i'm going for a ride", i sing .
hi, what's the "solution for when the little ones come"???????????you gotta be kidding me!!!!!good luck my friend....and count your little blessings.....
LOL. I love how that scooter is loaded down. This is a man who clearly doesn't believe in traveling light or rough frontier camping. The only thing not visible is a television, but I suspect it's in there somewhere. Toe-tapping music as well. :)
We've ridden our share of well loaded bikes. We (wife and I) rode from Tacoma WA to Charleston SC (coast to coast) on a Kawasaki KZ-650, loaded to the max (fairing pockets, travel bags, travel trunk, and stuff strapped on top), in the Winter (Dec 18th). We ran into ice through Grants Pass Oregon, a flash flood in Arizona, a sandstorm in Texas, and an mean cop with a ticket book in SC. One of those things you're foolish enough to do once but smart enough to never do again.
True, but I'd still not recommend such a trip to others (at least not in the wintertime). By the way, what's that on the back of your scooter? Looks like some kind of doll, but never really clear enough to see exactly what. While I'm asking, what's the name of the song playing in the video? Just had to ask after listening to it so much. Finally, since you never actually, said, where is all this? Anyway, I'll read your reply without bothering you further. Take care.
A baby doll on back, for lulz. The music is just some canned music from the video editing program. And yeah, I should have given some clue as to the locale. Its up the east coast of Michigan from north of Detroit to the campground at Lakeport north of Port Huron.
Beautiful countryside. Parts remind me of the odenwald (odes forest) and schwarzwald (black forest) in the countryside behind my house here in Weinheim Germany. And the music sounds very much like what one might hear in a beer tent at a traditional German fest. Your scooter (a very common sight here) added to those impressions.
Woa! I'm considering buying a vino, and that almost sealed the deal! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go camping. I guess I can't take a girl, though. haha
BUT HEY, how do you get a pizza home on that thing??
If he were a salesperson, he would have suggested two scooters - one for you and one for the girl. This was my solution. I ride a Peugeot Satelis 125 and a Honda Lead 100 will be delivered for my wife (her first scooter) next week. Afterwards, she can to carry her own stuff. This will also mean less weight on my scooter, allowing me to ride faster. Her only problem will be finding me after I leave her well behind. I wouldn't really leave her behind, but I have fun threatening her with this.
I'm an American expatriate now living in Germany. Our soon-to-be permanent residence is in southern Spain. And I don't believe either the Honda Lead or Peugeot Satelis are available in the USA. Both were built for the European market where scooters are popular, yet customers are willing to pay more than budget scooters sold in third-world markets. The lower mid-priced (in EU) Lead is aimed at mainstream consumers, while the Satelis targets an upscale market seeking luxury and performance.
can't remember.....the slipstream s-06 I think is the one most recommended by people.....check out the yahoo Vino 125 group and the group at provoscootersdotcom....for lots of help and support.....

When I take off the trunk on the back, there's a nice platform that I just bungee the pizza to.
As far as a girl, just pack lighter.
