@TheTannerj15 Thanks. It was a different manual transmission the years before. This is a Getrag 6-spd long throw and it's not meant for quick, smooth shifts. Oh well, it's still fun to rev match downshift every now and then.
@449ray I did notice a slight increase in city mpg; you can read my response below about the performance change. The mechanic who said your mpg's would suffer didn't realize how many exhaust components are on this truck. Without the muffler, there is clearly still plenty of back pressure with the catalytic converters and resonators. As long as you leave the cats alone, the O2 sensors won't be affected by increased exhaust flow. I have driven 10K miles this way no prob. Hope this helps.
@MydogTobes First of all, I knew where they lived. I could have taken a broom or something of equal value because it is just a 5 year old Kodak camera with a cracked shell and broken screen !
I have a 2005 quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7 liter too. I installed a k&n fipk on it and cut the muffler out and put a glass pack in, and run superchips tuning on 91 octane setting. Although i run 87 octane on that setting as it seems to jave better power and never had a problem with ppreignition. I can get the truck to roast the tires all the way through third gear. The fipk was the best money i spent. The superchips programmer was great for firming up the shifts and quicker shifts.
take the 2.5'' pipe out replace it with a 3'' or 3.5'' then back into the 2.5'' will give it better sound too. thats how mine is except with the gibson muffler after the 3'' pipe
Sounds good man! Check out my vids of my 05 when you get a chance...swapped out my cats for maybe an inch or 2 shorter ones. Have an intake too...Next thing I want is a programmer so i dont bounce off the limiter all the time just revin it up.
@zgrave530 There was a gain of between 1/2 and 1 mpg in the city with no electronic fine tuning for the increased exhaust flow. I did notice less torque from a stop but surely a horsepower boost above 3000 rpm. It sure is fun to nail a rev matched downshift with the windows down. Even though I do this more often now the fuel economy is still better than before. The engine feels so much better with age too.
@GoodNowWhat Cool dude, thanks for the insight. I may just have to give this a try... just until I can afford a full exhaust system. I've only got 3,500 miles on mine, so she still has a lot of life.
@zgrave530 No problem. Yes you definitely have a lot of life left in your engine. I have 50K on mine now. For the small price of pipe bent to replace the muffler and a couple of clamps it's worth a try. I have never seen a vehicle with so many exhaust components as I have with this truck. The 4.7 needs to breathe. Good luck with your upgrades.
@331StrokerTrickFlow The exhaust is exactly what came from the factory except for the muffler being removed and replaced with a piece of straight pipe. The resonators (2 of them) are stock. I was surprised as to how good it sounded. It was worth a shot to try this before spending money on a replacement exhaust system.
@Sean71554 The truck came stock with 2 cats, 2 resonators and the big ass muffler. The only thing missing is the muffler. The 2 cats off the manifold and the 2 resonators down the line are all stock
@DMCandSAK52808 I found them and the hitch through Craigslist, paid $120. I checked every few days patiently, areas up to 2 hours away. It worked. Like you I didn't feel like spending that much for steps.
Man.. That was a beautiful caravan that flew by. Just beautiful man. Great video.

To Whomever Has Tried This; Did you notice a change in MPG? Better or Worse? & has it affected your O2 sensor?

@Xbox360Player350 they discontinued the 6 speed with the v8 in 2007, they are quite hard to find because about 95% are automatics
