  • A man and his toys. Love it!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Where did you get the rails?

  • @333jirachi

I had them extruded at Argyle Industries in Branchburg, New Jersey.

  • @islandpondrr So they made rails for you? That's awesome! I'm using T section bars, but I haven't wheels (I have grooved wheels, but they certainly don't work when I pass a switch). Can you tell me where did you find them? Thanks

  • @333jirachi

If you have machining capability you can turn grooved wheels into flanged wheels. I have made flanged wheels from steel caster wheels. You can buy wheels from Tom Bee or maybe find them on ebay.

  • FFAANNTTAASSTTIICC!!

  • My dad has about 12 feet of track and a box of ties thats as far as he got, LOL.

  • does the other track lead to anywhere or anything?

  • @mestupp527

The other track is the main line. Please see my other videos like

"Coupler Cam Westbound" if you want to see where it goes. -- Bill

  • @islandpondrr 0:52 At the left, is that an outdoor fan or did you just put it out there?

  • @flippy941

It really isn't designed for outdoor use but that's where it gets used. I needed a high volume fan and that one fills the bill. It is used to keep me cool and keep the mosquitos away while I'm doing track work. - Bill

  • @islandpondrr Heh. Im using a bathroom vent fan to obliterate snow & ice.

  • @flippy941

The only reason they tell you not to use an indoor fan outdoors is because of rain and to cover their ass from lawsuits. There's nothing wrong with using a fan outdoors.

  • @mirbill22 yeah good idea :)

  • How much did it cost you?

  • @UXAQ In 2010 it was about $4 per foot.

  • @islandpondrr Where can you buy the rail? What "pound" is it?

  • @Boss302fan

In this scale/gauge we generally don't go by the pound, especially since most of us use aluminum rail. What I buy is called "Heavy Western Profile" and it is 1.0" tall and runs about

one pound to the yard. Where to get it depends on where you live, since it's heavy and it costs a lot to ship it. I get mine from Argyle Industries of Branchburg, New Jersey.

  • @islandpondrr Thanks. I work with the "real thing" but find this a fascinating hobby to watch. Really nice video. A lot of work involved. Congrats to you.

Is there a source for "light rail" that is not aluminum that you know of? Old mining track or something like that?

  • @Boss302fan

There are actually a few suppliers of light steel rail for industrial uses including mining. It is available in various sizes and is popular in the 9 to 12 pound range. Hobbyists that are into larger scales use plenty of that. I have a friend in Massachusetts that uses 9 pound. I also have some steel rail in my scale/gauge that runs about 3 pounds to the yard.

  • @islandpondrr Have a contact for me for the larger size? I've tried googling it and outside of China and a used supplier in Canada can't find any

  • It looks like a real nice track.

  • thats gonna be cool! nice track
