Hi, thanks for the reply. I haven't had an opportunity to visit the tunnel. I understand there are 4 - 5 tunnels in total? one for the canal, 2 for the original victorian line and a current modern rail tunnel?
Have you ever blogged any of your research? Perhaps you could recomend some books?

I blimmin love canals. I'd love to go through Standedge Tunnel. Particularly to see the tunnels that branch off it to the rail tunnels. I hear there are some vaulted cielings in there.
@TheDarkplace i saw ur commet on the standedge tunnel video and yes ther are vaulted cieling inside the train tunnels as i no sum1 who works ther so they hav had access even tho they are closed to the pubic now and they are supposably been sum spooky sighting in ther as i live less than a mile away from the tunnel and hav done lots of reasearch on it feel free to ask me any questions ... as seen as this was posted like a year ago have you have chance to visit the standedge tunnel??? :D
