I played TB for a short while. Quite short. At the time I was not expecting the game to be what it was, and felt disappointed. For some reason I quickly ran into npc's far too powerful for me to handle, got lost in the questing and stuck in places somewhere on the map. I eventually returned and, knowing what I was going into, thoroughly enjoyed myself. Truly a pity it ended how it ended, and sad that futuristic sci-fi is still a theme where too many games come to die.

Infinity is the game was the game I meant, I mean being able to have the WHOLE universe in EvE is good but what about the Universe + being able to fly down to planets and land and walk around ? like a Sci-Fi gta ^^, I am mostly speculating but it is still in alpha, but hopefully this shall be a truly awesome game :D
NCsoft shut down Tabula Rasa because they didn't like Richard Garriott, the man behind the game (who is the creator of Ultima Online, the best game ever).

Garriot know his games, i've seen this a while ago on tv (never played it, didn't have the time to invest). However, I feel it should have continued (feel it should never have died out). There isn't alot of good mmo sci fi games out there.
Last thing I hear, Garriott has a pretty nice bankroll so maybe something else will be in development? Dunno, but I look forward to more great games from his line of work!

Tabula Rasa was pretty good but there was too much lag when I played it. However, if a sci-fi mmo came out that was credible and worth my attention I'd play it over the fantasy games of the genre.

Never played TR but I've heard it was good, I dunno NC is a weird company. I hate their titles like CoH/CoV and Lineage2. But they've also got 2 of my favorite MMO's on their list which are Guild wars (pvp is original and innovative) and Aion which is just a sick game. But I think they pulled all their resources off other project in order to make Aion, and this caused the other titles to suffer. On top of that they've got the worse marketing dept. of any company that develops games period.
This game showed a lot of promise. Ufortunately it bombed "at the box office" and so they had to shut it down. It's all about the benjamins... Goddamn corporate empires and their commercial crap that they enforce on the world. U can't make decent games anymore nowadays because of the financial implications. Star Trek Online is a piece of shit backwater MMO, as for the SW - The Old Republic, i'm signed up for the beta, we'll see how that goes.
ME is a great RPG/Action, but i rly don't see it as a MMO, that would just ruin the story side of it (MMO have no epic story). They could have made a 2 player coop mode tho...
Still waiting for that really big MMO, but it has to have a huge company behind it, for the support.

What made TR great was this "army of me" feeling. You went, took over a base and held it for as long as you could. Others might have joined, and without arranging or agreement you helped each other out, there was simply enough enemies for everyone. No instances needed, just go in and have fun, alone or with a few friends, and that feeling of satisfaction when you managed to hold the ground...
I have a feeling it wasn't even that. The fallout between Garriott and NC was pretty rough or so I heard, and they most likely just wanted this gone. Also to promote their new love child Aion.
But, bluntly, I came to play a SciFi MMO. Not a WoW clone.

From all the trailers i saw of Divergence, it looks like a Mass Effect clone turned into an MMO. That is not necessarily a bad thing, as i have imagined how a ME MMO would look like and this game comes pretty close.
For now it's just a concept without any funds, and it's going to die if a big gaming company doesn't get behind it, and if it does, they might even ruin it. Still, the gaming industry is getting more and more casual so i don't see this game having much luck...
Well, i'm done with MMO's, but tnx. I prefer to focus on real life now and get out more. MMO's eat up too much of your time and with too few rewards. I'm playing cosmic RTS now and then.
@mancamiatipoola Yeah they do take a fair bit of time up. But if you ever go back to RPGs and want sci-fi ones, there are TONS out there, not as many as fantasy ones but they're still there.
@mancamiatipoola I'm sick of WoW but I still play once in awhile due to it being so habitual for me over the years, but my time in the game has become less and less. I'm not at all tired of the fantasy genre though, that's why I play these types of games because I like living in a world of magic, orcs/ogres/elves or whatever other fantasy games has to offer. But I do agree with you about money hungry corruption, I'm getting more and more turned off WoW because of that reason.
Tnx. Dark Millenium Online looks like a great MMO in the Warhammer 40k universe. If the combat will be action oriented then it will probably have a lot of success. I'll keep an eye on it.
Also, i have recently heard there is a private Tabula Rasa emulator in development. Just search Infiniterasa on google and track the forums. They have a test server going too. If they keep up the good work we may see a TR emulator up and running in the near future.
Tabula Rasa was a awesome game, and I really hope Richard Garriott decides to reopen the game again. It DO have a future, if he just takes the step to reopen it, hes leaving alot of players dissapointed if he dont.
I knew a few people who played it. However I love planetside. Dated yes, but still a good solid game. Dynamic roles, different weapons, multiple objectives, vehicles up the ass. You could co-op with a group of 30 people. Just that the population went down. TR seems to have suffered the fate that may become PlanetSide. TR is gone, but PlanetSide is not.. yet. Give it a try. For glory, for humanity, for the Empire! For a good time try it at least. Don' let another good game die :( .
TR was one of the best MMO's I played.. no take that back, it was the best. Damn NCSoft screwed it up from the begining. I bet Garriott could have run it better by himself without NCSoft breathing down his kneck then giving him the boot.

I personally think NCsoft saw that Tabula Rasa just wasn't cutting it. It wasn't the "WoW Killer" they were hoping for that would make them big bucks. So they quit funding the team little by little and backed up Aion Tower of Eternity because they saw more in that.
No RG is the fuckhead. He got like one of the biggest budget to make the game like 100$ mill. I've seen games made for lesser money and still had a whole lot more what TR could offer. After launch RG was busy with his space travel and now when TR is closed he is suing NCSoft for 24$ mill. Wtf did the dev team do for a whole fucking year after TR's launch?

There's a lot of MMOs like that but I'm guessing yopu don't mean ones with mouse controls so, you should try Lunia. Lunia sucked, and it was grindy, but its free and its a decent little hack and slash mixed with MMO leveling.

Oh, and i am a little sad the game is closing. I never played it, to add to my list of mmo's i have played. In addition, i cannot get it now, as i am typing this up in an internet café in southern Spain and i do not get back until the 23rd of March 2009.

Let me give you a nice example-
Were i used to live, not so far away there was a giant granite stone quarry. The quarry became un-prothitable, so they closed it. The firm that owned the place did not go out of business though, as they own lot's of more profitable quarries around the world. Just like NCSoft, in a way.

I personally think NCsoft saw that Tabula Rasa just wasn't cutting it. It wasn't the "WoW Killer" they were hoping for that would make them big bucks. So they quit funding the team little by little and backed up Aion Tower of Eternity because they saw more in that.

No RG is the fuckhead. He got like one of the biggest budget to make the game like 100$ mill. I've seen games made for lesser money and still had a whole lot more what TR could offer. After launch RG was busy with his space travel and now when TR is closed he is suing NCSoft for 24$ mill. Wtf did the dev team do for a whole fucking year after TR's launch?

I mean how the fuck can u work for 1 year and not offer anything. Never seen any workplace which could accept that. We only got few instances, new weps, pvp balance and some mechs in the pvp map only. Btw the last pvp map they added was the most horrible ones they added.

Ahhh, good memories. I played this game in its final month. Met some cool people, had fun, it was a great game in my opinion. Don't care what anyone says. I loved it.

Actually I think Money isn't the Reason for the shutdown. Don't you read the new? Richard Garriot left NC Soft and now he even sued them for like 24 Million $ or something. I think Tabula Rasa was victim of political matters.

With all good things gone, comes new things. There is a game called Face of Mankind with an open ended world where you shape the story-line. This game is a Sci-Fi RolePlaying game and it is currently in Closed Beta right now. I can't wait for the release! =D check the website for more info on the game or you can search it up on youtube. Lol I'm not advertising, this game is just so sick! It's practically like TR except in space and with other planets.

i couldn't believe it when they said it was gonna close down, alot of people came from Autoassault to play tabula rasa and all of a sudden it closed down like Autoassualt did. what aload of rubbish they should of done better abd it turned out ugly and why should i play Aion it might end up getting closed down like the rest of them did what a waste of time a complete load of rubbish just 16 months and shutdown wasted all my time on it

I did it took soo long the patch took soo long then I go to play and found out it was shut down right before I went to play... There's a lot of MMOs like that but I'm guessing yopu don't mean ones with mouse controls so, you should try Lunia. Lunia sucked, and it was grindy, but its free and its a decent little hack and slash mixed with MMO leveling.

Oh, and i am a little sad the game is closing. I never played it, to add to my list of mmo's i have played. In addition, i cannot get it now, as i am typing this up in an internet café in southern Spain and i do not get back until the 23rd of March 2009.

I also heard the devs could not be bothered any more, ditto with the guy who thought up the game.

Let me give you a nice example-
Were i used to live, not so far away there was a giant granite stone quarry. The quarry became un-prothitable, so they closed it. The firm that owned the place did not go out of business though, as they own lot's of more profitable quarries around the world. Just like NCSoft, in a way.
