Richard Albain, the series' special effects creator, did it this way: "Rembrandt" was actually painting on a pane of glass in front of the camera, NOT the camera lens itself. {And in doing so, "Rembrandt" became the only one other than Jeannie in season one who realized he was "being watched by an audience" at the end of an episode, "ending" it by eliminating the picture; Jeannie did it twice by "blinking" the picture off}
Bewitched repeated this plot during the "Art for Sam's Sake" episode in 1967...
