@leonvibroboy i wonder sometimes just how big the chuck tree is though, because on top of what you just mentioned and death metal as we know and love it today, even the grunge seen back in the early 90's when it was good seemed influenced by the death sound. a good example is alice in chains. i've never read about them listing chuck as an influence, but it sounds like the influence was pretty heavy. even nirvana and soundgarden and a few other non metal bands seemed to carry a similar essence
