Dude your work inspires me greatly, I'm trying to make the footage i get into more of a cinematic feel. I was looking into buying camcorders like the Sony Cx-700v, any suggestions?
Hey, I would recommend looking into HDSLR's, there much more powerful and professional. I believe the T2i is in the $500 price range, so I urge you to check those out!
@jhood7891 I know the question didn't come to me, but the Canon wd58 is really nice, a bit heavy, a little expensive, but makes a world of difference in your films. I really haven't posted any of the fancy stuff i've shot with it, but hopefully soon I get a chance to.
Hello, I'm from Russia, I ask for if there are errors. I shoot for canon s200. Tell me please where can I make such color correction at your video using the operating system windows 7. mac os is not possible to put
Man this video is so professional, good work bro keep it up. The advanced color correction and dept up field is that an effect or its all on the camera because im thinking of getting this canon soon?
During motion shots i get a weird flicker, and it looks terrible. the more motion there is the worse it becomes. Im shooting in 24f mxp with auto focus on. its driving me nuts, i love this camera and i feel like im not using it to its potential.
Hey HiiDef... Great video and shots...Nice job..I do have one question..How did you put a thumbnail and link to your other videos at the end of your video..Thanks JJB
dude this video looks so fucking sick. I want to ask you, please, can you make a video in 1080p of how the video light is? like footage from the camera with it on, inside, outside at night, in the dark, things like that? If you do that'l be awesome. Im subscribed to you. I have a sony nex 3 right now and i hate it, trying to get rid of it. once i do, im going straight to this camera
I hope you've learned to cut back on the vignetting since you made this vid. You're literally cutting off half of your outstanding footage. Also, while you may consider it a "film look"... it's WAY overproduced in post.
Do you do the 24 frames in post as a pull-down, or do it originally on-camera? If on-camera, do you have problems dubbing audio? Normally, standard audio recorders don't synch with 24p filming.
The camera has it built in, and I didn't use almost any audio from the camcorder in this video. Besides, the frame rates shouldn't affect the audio synching, since 24p, 30p, & 60p are based on a 1 second interval.
@HiiDefinition Maybe I'm doing something wrong, then, because I have the HF S200 and a Zoom recorder and no matter if I use PCM or mP3, I still can't synch the damn sound on 24p. Is there some mistake that I'm making, perhaps that you recognize? It's driving me crazy.
You have no choice if you live in Europe; the vixia model is in NTSC format, and will not work with many devices (TV's, DVD players, Computers, etc). This can especially prove troublesome for PAL based editing programs. The frame rates are incredibly close, and chances are most people wouldn't be able to recognize the difference. The camcorders are basically identical, with different labels.
The DoF effect was done entirely in post. Also it is possible to get the classic portrait shot with bokeh in the background, but it is very difficult. Anyway, if you are looking for depth of field, checkout HDSLR's.
Would using a Canon HF S100 get about the same look with the VFXs and a wider lens? I really want a Canon but the S21 is a little out of my price range at the moment.
I have this camcorder and it is amazing!!! I know it lack some features full pro cameras have like xlr inputs, more frame rates and more full adjustable features, but for the money and among all the amazing video quality you get this really cant be beat with anything in this category. The native 24p is amazing and looks soooo good. I just shot a music video for a really good band and they said the last guy used an $9,000 camera and my footage look a lot better.
hey I have the same camcorder, while i am shooting i make sure all the quality options at camera are the best or the highest. However when I upload them to my I-movie the quality sucks... Do u have any recommendation? How can I keep the quality of the original of the footage? Thnx!
This is totally possible in After Effects, if you would like a similar effect on your footage, please contact me via e-mail: HiiDefinition@Gmail.com or check the description.
@TheOsmanboylu I totally understand.... however, keep in mind that you can "de-interlace" the footage... bottom line....... The footage captured in this vid is amazing!!!!!
@TheOsmanboylu - It's unfortunate that you refer to this as a "handycam" as "handycam" is SONY... This is a CANON VIXIA. Why would you want a DSLR camera? Because that's what everyone else is doing? My question is this.... If you are amazed at the final product, (the above video) and searching for this "look"... then why wouldn't you just get this camera???? The reality is this: it doesn't matter what camera you use to capture your images.... the final product is what counts...
I know at some point I learned about 35 mm film (actual film) where the 24p meant 24 feet per second and to synch audio, it was adjusted to 23.98 feet per second..
--- NOW, that everything is digital, it seems even manufacturers have taken the same 24p and 23.98 and changed the definition to mean Frames per second. if you consider that one foot of film had 16 frames, it was actually much higher frame rate! what is going on here?
What do the filter and lens hood do? also, how do you get that great depth of field? i'm planning on buying this camera, but i'd love to know all the tricks of the trade to making it look more cinematic.
The digital dof can be a very complicated and a pain staking process; but the easiest way to describe is that you have to mask out the object that you want in focus, and you will have to track each object so the dof looks realistic. After you have masked and tracked each object, you will have to take the original footage, blur the entire image, and place it underneath the masked objects. You will always have to keep in mind the distance of the objects, the foreground, and the background
its cool, but is this an exageration of what it can do NORMALLY?meaning does it take loads of work and time to get the picture like this?second, are you selling the camera,or do you genuinly love them?
Well when you apply effects and a color grade, then essentially you are exaggerating the video clip, but more in a good way. Without the color correction and the lack of depth of field, the video would look less film like. Anyway, I think the HFS21 is a excellent camcorder, and I'm not selling it.
please answer this , im a beginner videoographer and i need to no if the canon hfs21 will be the same , please help me this video made me have chills, PM me or comment back , thank you
Well, I don't quite understand what you are trying to say, the HF S21 is in the title and it was the camcorder I used, so why wouldn't it be the same? If you are talking about the effects, then thats a different story. The effects can only be done in an editing program.
@HiiDefinition im reallly sorry i meant hfs20 , i have one and the quality of this video is amazing, not just the effects, how can i make my camera 24p, i have it on cine mode, MXP (24 F), frame rate is 24F simultaneous recording is 1920x1080.. is there anything else i could do for the best quality?
Hi I know you must have been asked this question many many times, but your Depth of Field effect is so amazing and I was wondering what your method/s are? any special plugins? Because I know you can make a 35 mil converter but i'd rather not screw with my camera, and you seem to get the job done just fine without it haha
Well at the time I made this video, I had FCP 7 and I was just beginning to learn AE CS5, so I had to hand track, frame by frame, for a pain staking week. I masked out all the buildings and cars that were supposed to be "in focus", while the background was blurred. Now that I'm completely comfortable with AE CS5, I would have tracked each section that would be masked out using MOCHA, and parent the masks to the tracking data. If I knew this before, I could have done this in half the time.
Believe it or not you can get some pretty amazing depth of field using aperture priority at f 1.8, so for that particular shot, you could probably replicate similar results as the digital depth of field.
I also have one Canon hfs21 And the wd-H58 adaptor. Do you use some kind of zoom
Controller ? I think that some fotage is à little bit shaky. I use the bebob dvxl zoom. I think your videos are amasing, and the post you have done is very professional. Gold stars !!
Outstanding quality and style. I bet there's Hollywood Executives watching this and getting all panicky because they 'spend' huge sums on cameras, FX etc to get this look yet you've got the same great looking film simply using some common software and a cheap camera (cheap compared to a professional digital of film movie camera )
Why would you think AE and FCP are any different in color correction? Similar plugins, same idea. However AE comes with Finesse 3, which is an advanced plugin, similar to apple color. So personally, I think both programs are excellent for color correction. Anyway, for this video I used Magic Bullet Looks (compatible with AE and FCP) and some simple "filters" found in FCP.
I wish so much I had the opportunity to shoot with a camera like this... I wonder how much a camera this standard would coz though, probably thousands
@HiiDefinition oh right not so much then i was expecting about $3000. Ur really good at shooting. im seriously considering going out and buying this camera
I don't know if I have enough for a S10, but I was gonna buy the R10 and then equip it with multiple accessories. Could you recommend a great camera, or accessories for the R10, since it is similar quality to the S10 ?
does CMOS sucks compared to CCD nowadays? i noticed slightly some jello effect on this video, if you see on the left side or right side of the video when handheld.
CMOS sensor's can create some pretty noticeable "jello" footage, this is especially noticeable on DSLR's. This camera will have this effect occasionally on fast pans, but it's pretty limited. CCD sensors of course don't have this problem, but I don't have any control over the manufacturers.
@HiiDefinition Wow, what a great look, I have this camcorder, but all the footage is grainy and dull. Could you post a Tutorial on how you achieved this look in final cut pro?
how is Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 is tht a good video program and does it do green screenin

HiiDefinition 10 months ago
Legria = Vixia (other than a few features)
Legria = Europe region (PAL)
Vixia = North America (NTSC)
Legria has 25p and 50i
Vixia has 24p, 30p, and 60i
Other than that, the camcorders are identical, just with different names.

Hi, very nice footage. I'm looking for a camera,

Have now subbed.

one question, did u apply the color correction and the looks in fcp or after effects, cuz personally i think the fcp CC is better.
ibsprintin 1 year ago
Why would you think AE and FCP are any different in color correction? Similar plugins, same idea. However AE comes with Finesse 3, which is an advanced plugin, similar to apple color. So personally, I think both programs are excellent for color correction. Anyway, for this video I used Magic Bullet Looks (compatible with AE and FCP) and some simple "filters" found in FCP.

this a bit looks like the I AM LEGEND color correction, as far as the buildings go. quality is sick.

@HiiDefinition
is this After effekt????

The only part I used after effects was for the introduction (logo), but other than that, it was all FCP 7.

I don't know if I have enough for a S10, but I was gonna buy the R10 and then equip it with multiple accessories. Could you recommend a great camera, or accessories for the R10, since it is similar quality to the S10 ?

does the camera have good depth of field???
please respond :)
LastFilmProductions 1 year ago
If you use aperture priority you can get some pretty amazing depth of field, but of course, a DSLR will have much better dof.

does CMOS sucks compared to CCD nowadays? i noticed slightly some jello effect on this video, if you see on the left side or right side of the video when handheld.
keep filming :)
mrsnoo86 1 year ago
CMOS sensor's can create some pretty noticeable "jello" footage, this is especially noticeable on DSLR's. This camera will have this effect occasionally on fast pans, but it's pretty limited. CCD sensors of course don't have this problem, but I don't have any control over the manufacturers.

how did you get this nice dof.... an adapter? or in fcp
LethargicBannanazZ 1 year ago
All done in FCP.
HiiDefinition 1 year ago
@HiiDefinition Wow, what a great look, I have this camcorder, but all the footage is grainy and dull. Could you post a Tutorial on how you achieved this look in final cut pro?

JKIProductionz 1 year ago
Absolutely, it exceeded my expectations!
HiiDefinition 1 year ago
How did you do the colour correction and depth of field work in FCP? That looks amazing
mikesoccer1 1 year ago
I use a combination of simple "filters" included with FCP.
HiiDefinition 1 year ago
@HiiDefinition Really? Which ones?
mikesoccer1 1 year ago
color corrector, widescreen, vignette, RGB balance.
