To the peeps whining about the dude's technique, this is just a materiels test. No shit his technique sucks. Thompson's no silat guru. A student of the blade is only as good as his weapon. This guy is only showing his product. And a fine product it is. It handles well in the hand and cuts like a razor. It's heavy enough to cut through a ribcage should u slash there but dont expect it to take off a limb, maybe some fingers. An excellent weapon, if u live in a state/country that allows it.

He's a good salesman. These demonstrations might have little or no actual practical value, but it'll sell knives. You can stab through thin car sheet metal with a cheap wal-mart pocket knife. This is simply the "tactical" version of those Ronco cooking knife infomercials.

Out here your back up isn't just around the corner. we have 4 deputies on the 2200 - 0600 to cover the whole county with a highway trooper on call for fatal accidents.

They refered to what you described as ground grapling. Basically drop to your butt and fight like hell with your legs. The deputy that was injured here a few years back was cut up with a Cold Steel Safe Keeper push dagger. That guy turned his kevlar into shreaded wheat.

And now with todays ultra modern high tech double and triple retention holsters it's good in a sense that the bad guy will have a very hard time getting the weapon off of you in a scuffle , but bad in a sense that if someone did run tword you with a knife , your heart races , you get an adrenaline dump and lose about 50% of your fine motor skills , you panic and forget that you have 2 snaps and have to push forward to draw and he cuts you to shreads while your tugging at the holster.

Yes I'm Familiar with that drill also. Back in the day when police officers carried the basic border patrol style holster it was good and bad. Good in a sense that the holster rode low where as the thumb snap was at more of an accessible position and level one was a very fast draw in a knife attack. But bad in a sense that the weapon could be very easily snagged from you in a scuffle. One of the old timers told me that years ago 80% of deputies that got shot , were shot with their own guns.

A lot of deupty sheriffs I worked with thought the entire Idea of a fighting knife is outmoded and obsolete until one of them found themselves stabbed. Remember shooting someone is a 4 count movenemt , un snap , draw , aim , squeeze. Stabbing is only a 2 count movement , darw , stab. We went through some knife drills in the academy where we were positioned 10 feet away with a training knife and each time we were able to draw the knife run up and stab the other before he could his weapon.
