  • Make a video of Elkhorn please!

  • @JessiHope5 We are doing one this summer, when the weather is warmer and we can get out and take pics. I am from Wolfpit and wanting to do one of my old haunts & hangouts. I want to Marrowbone/Regina/Wolfpit, Elkhorn City, and up around Alleghaney, Ashcamp, & Elkhorn Creek. Just need to get good shots. I am really interested in getting the "Gorilla" in that yard on Bowling Fork as well - if it is still there. I have lots of ideas...just waiting for summer.

  • Absolutely Love this video..every Picture brings a memory to mind..Makes me wanna just spend a day there and bring back the memories I Love! I LOVE PIKEVILLE!

  • Hi. Thanks for the insight into your home town. Loved learning the historical info for both the then future President during the civil war and the Hatfield and McCoy court history. You seem to live in a very picturesque area of KY. Had a little look via Google Earth/Satellite/Geographical etc. If I ever make it to the U.S. I will be sure to travel via your city. Good luck.

  • Hey I've been there before!

  • Bravo, Pikeville Ky, as good any better than many we lift our glasses high to Pikeville, Ky.....!"

  • I just moved here and it's absolutely beautiful! Decided to check out some videos and came across yours. Thanks for posting :)

  • They tore most of those old buildings down :(

  • I was born in Pikeville in 1962. With memeories of visiting grandparents as I grew up in Lexington. Pikeville has made a lot of changes as I grew up...

  • sadly, the pinson is no longer with us; the state thinks we need more office space for crapy politicians and city officials than we need historical buildings

  • This video is awesome. I spent most of my adult life in Pikeville, and my daughter was born there. It brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you so much for your time & effort in creating this. =)

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. It brought back a lot of memories. I have been gone for 17 years but it will always be home.

  • youre welcome

  • @tommygunn162 well it is very nice here. We are right now getting over some flooding in some areas. About the maker of the slideshow being over seas...um that is incorrect. I am the maker of the slideshow and I have never been out of the country. LOL, sorry to disappoint. But thanks for watching and I, like you, are supportive of our troops and the job they do to protect us. Thanks for watching and for commenting! :)

  • @amyphillips76 God Bless from Boston,KY great video,

  • Thanks for putting this together! What a nice slide show! Some interesting photos of 'ghost busters tanning salon' and 'raccoon autos' :) Did you have any photos from the Bob Amos overlook? I am looking for info on that park. I hear there is a cool overlook point from the park to see entire Pikeville? Thanks.

  • @alaivani Thanks for the comment! Actually, no I don't have anything on the Bob Amos overlook, but they just recently completed some renovations that I hear are pretty nice. I live like 5 minutes from there, but have not made up there to check it out as of yet. I will try to get up to it in the next little bit and if I do I will get some shots and post a vid for ya!

  • @amyphillips76 Thanks Amy! We actually drove through Pikeville this past Monday. I recognized some of the places in your video! We utilized the helpful services at the police station to find the Bob Amos Park. It's indeed one of the most unique places I have ever seen!! You live in a unique town!

  • Wow, you really need to lay off. There are good people everywhere you look in Pikeville, what happened to your son was tragic and terrible, but to blame an entire city? You agreed yourself that the boy was drinking and partying, thats just a danger that comes along with that shit. The point is, if your son hadn't been involved with those people and things, it would have never happened...Thats not excusing it, but to place the responsibility on the whole town? Get real.

  • Actually, no I don't even have a clue who your son is. Don't remember this happening. But regardless, it doesn't sound right the way the case was handled, and for that I'm sorry. However, that doesn't mean that Pikeville is a terrible place, full of terrible people. I understand that you're just defending your son, but remember, when you attack the people of P-ville, you're attacking me, and my family as well for something we knew nothing about. I'll admit that things need to be handled better

  • here. I'll preach that all day long.. But that still doesn't mean that its such an awful place to live. And don't take this in any way offensive, but MOST (not all) but most things like that here in p-ville happen to people who are in that kind of crowd. So no, those of us who stay away from that crap, don't tend to be involved in these problems, so Pikeville is a very quite and peaceful place for us to live. I know you're having problems dealing with this situation, and thats perfectly

  • understandable. And if you approach the subject without attacking everyone who lives here, or the beautiful town itself, then I'll go to bat for you all day, every day. But just as you have to defend your son, I have to defend myself, family and friends. I hope thats understandable for you. I truly am sorry for the way it was handled, and how that still affects you, all that I ask is not put all of us down as a whole. I had family that was killed in NC, never solved, but I don't say that

  • evry1 from NC has 2 b a terrible person jst 4 living there b/c that would jst b wrong. There R good ppl & there are bad ppl N every state, city, town all over the world... Not jst Pikeville. I do pray that you find the answers you are looking for, and that someday you'll get the peace of mind and justice you deserve. But just remember, you'll get alot of people to understand you better and defend you if you don't run in telling them how terrible they are for something they didn't do.

  • i do miss pikeville moved to vancouver canada and this video took me back now i wanna come home i miss the smell of the fresh cut grass and country flowers and the white people lol to many other cultures here for me i live in hindu central lol

  • I know your son. I went to school with him. It's awful what happened. I'm sorry. My prayers have been for your family for a long while now. I know that's no consulation. I agree the politics and government in Pikeville is very dirty. A very good friend of mine's uncle was killed by the police several years ago. It was never proven but we feel it very strongly. I know what you mean. Even tho the people are dirty, I still think we have beauty in our town. I am very sorry for your loss.

  • @n40680

I live in Pike County and I agree with you. This is a place that is run by Free Masons.

  • @n40680 He was probably drunk. Take some responsibility and leave Pikeville out of it. Accuse everyone one except the person who did not act responsibility! Typical. Move back to New Jersey or where ever you are from!

  • sorry bout your son but u can judge a place by what happened to one person....i see ppl get killed every week....im sittin in afghanistan right now and this video makes me cry...pikeville is a very beautiful place....

  • I got a question, my girlfriend and I are looking to move out here on the recommendation from a friend that lives in the area. Is there affordable housing in the area? Maybe to pay by rent? And how is the employment opportunities? I love the video...great pictures...and I'd rather live there than the city anytime!!!

  • My Daddy was visiting my home in Ga. He now lives in Ms. but Pikeville is home. My daddy is the baby of 13. He's a Layne. As we watched he would tell things like...(.59) Jerry"s that was like his Arnolds it was the crusin place, and (5:42) It's a flower shop now but when it was a home his mom and Dad were married in the window of that house. Thankyou for sharring I had a great time learning about my family .

  • Thank you so much for commenting. This post was awesome! I love hearing stories of things that once were here. I never knew that place was a flower shop! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • i was born and raised in pike county...i moved away when i was 17 and i live in lancaster now, and very seldom get the chance to go back..thanks for the video...it was a great reminder of what a great place i have to call "my hometown"...

  • Pikeville is really a nice town...but I'm a Danville boy

  • Who cares what City Confidential has to say. I have lived in Elkhorn City....about 30 minutes from Pikeville, and I wouldnt trade it for any place in the world. A couple of shadowed teens done an unheard of act and that labels us as living in "hell"

Try to find any....ANY town that something bad hasnt happened in....then you can be the ones to judge us....

  • I was in Pikeville, way back in 1992, seemed like a nice serene place. Too bad those bad kids have cast an unfair shadow over the community since I was there.

  • I live here, too. God I love it here. It has a lot of nice people here. For those who have something against Hillbillies, we are good people, so stop being so rude. We can talk about your town too. :(

Loved the video! I live in millard, but I come to town all the time. The best days we have here is during Hillbilly days! Someone even came from oregon and California one time.

I visited Lexington recently and you are right. It kind of is a ghost town

  • I live in Louisville, but I'm from Floyd County and THAT will always be home. I miss Floyd and Pike county so much. Thank you for posting this, it really made me smile and cry at the same time. Much respect for the "the hills"! With love from the Ville...the OTHER Ville!

  • I hate pikeville myself I lived here most of my life until I moved away after graduation I loved Mt. Sterling ten times better but we can back due to family issues "CRIES" but..this video rocked.

The blue candy looking dolphin on the rail thingy was AWESOME!

  • I was born and raised in ohio.

    But i like the video

As a family when i was just a little kid we would come down there once a year if" WE WHERE LUCKY"

I mean that in a nice way

  • Did some moron go thew and mark thumbs down on everything? Must be 69 idiot, from lexington.

  • Yes, some moron did exactly that...I have been trying to change that. Thanks to everyone for their POSITIVE comments!!!

  • all you've shown is a bunch of signs and close up of bldgs. can't make anything out of what a picturesque city it is

  • that bench a 0:42 is very comfy i sat there recently. and loved it

  • Im not from Pikeville but, I had the great fortune of going to college in Pikeville. I was born and raised in Chicago and I wouldn't trade my experience in Pikeville Ky. for nothing. People in Pikeville are good honest people and I miss all the great friends I made in Ky. Thanks for this video I love it and I love you Pikeville....

  • Thank you so much for this. I now live in Lexington, and seeing this reminds me of the better days, the slower things in life. Stoping in Wal-Mart and talking to someone for an hour. To the poster below me, nothing against Lexington, but Id rather live there than here. We probably wouldn't like you anyway and you might find yourself lost on a strip mine.... I love my hometown!

  • youre a fucking piece of shit.

if you hate pikeville kentucky that much, how in the hell did you manage to type in "pikeville ky" in the search bar and watch this video. heres some big news asshole, Lexington is far from a Big City. lexington is a city. a small one. still from kentucky just like pikeville. have a good one, and be careful not to choke to death on all the fucking smog in lexington, since its such a huge place. go start shit on people for killing babies, not their hometowns dick.

  • Being from a small town of Pikeville, I'm embarassed by you Big city rednecks. Everyone of my family has come from Pikeville. My Daddy is a Layne my Mom was a Huffman. Those names mean something in eastern, Ky. My Uncle worked to make a good life for his family. He is the CEO of a large company in Lexington. He never forgot where he come from. Everyone of my family has served i the armforces. Don't you forget it!!The ones that give us a bad name....

  • My family is Huffman too!

  • this is my town too

  • This is my town too. This deff where they'll put me in the ground.

  • Look at 7.12 there are two faces in the mountain

  • i love where i live (here)

  • I use to live in Pikeville years ago but now I live far, far away ....or so it seems. I miss the area and the people. Maybe one day I will visit and see the place where I lived most of my life.

  • i live in pikeville too

    best place in the world

  • acctualy no, they both own it, and my grandfather works at the bank :D

  • The "raccoon auto sales" place is where my grandmother and grandfather works! :D

  • You didnt take any pictures of the best places in town! :)

Lovers Leap, Innitial Rock, and the Bob Amous trails through the woods.

    Great video, though!

    5 stars.

  • This is pretty good. I live at Marrowbone, but was raised on lower Brushy. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but Pike County. Good Job!!!

  • i live in pikeville to man

  • and lol i saw Chirco's

  • god i miss pike county. i live in hokkaido, japan now lol, i miss bein a hillbilly hahaaa

  • Thanks for posting. Born and raised in Pike County (Millard) Live in Chicago now. Miss the ol' place though.

  • Pike. Co Ky.....Like no other place I have ever been too. My whole family is from Pike Co. (Johns Creek). I would go there every summer and stay for a few weeks with my grand parents....The best memories I have of growing up are from there. Sadly most all my family are now gone but the memories of Pike Co. will live on. Also anyone reading this, if you go thru Pikeville, you need to stop at Dorseys and get the chili dog, still the best I ever had...

  • i live in johnscreek right now, i didnt think there would be videos on youtube about it :p

  • I'll be down there (Johnscreek) next Oct. for a family reunion, I'm going to make a video of it and I'll put it here....

  • Great job, guys!

I'm passing this on to my Aussie friends. :)

  • Did you notice your small appearance at 5:18? Check out the shadow. And actually 2 of the photos used here were taken by you! Can you find them?

  • Large banking industry, huge coal deposits, and alot of natural gas. There is a future here, that future is using our resources to power America. If we could just get the attractions here to bring the people it would be a boom town. The reason Lexington is the way it is would be because of all the malls etc, if we had the mall(s), all of eastern KY would come to us instead of lexington. Lexington then would be a ghost town.

  • ...No. The people that manage to raise above the poverty level get up and leave Pike County. It's not so much the lack of business that makes people leave. It's the people. The growing minority of drug users in the county are making life even more depressing. Add the promise of a bleak future for nearly all those that stay and you've got a recipe for a ghost town (or county in this case.)

  • Pikeville has vids on YouTube- that's because they have had a lot of good leadership...And the fact that one of the areas only federal court house. Thats the reason for the abundance of lawyers in the downtown area. We will never have a mall in Pikeville because we simply don't have the qualified workforce that is required to run a mall the size of Fayette Mall or Huntington Mall. The rumor is thats why the deal with Best Buy fell through...There simply wasnt enough people willing to to work.

  • And I want to point out that I am considering heading back to the area to work...I was born in Pike County..and more than likely I will die there. The place definitely has a kind of allure about it that makes people stay in the face of the many problems the area has. I've talked to many travelled people and they say that Pike County is their favorite place in the world...It's hard to argue with that.

  • Lexington IS a ghost town! Trust me!

  • This is absoutly wonderful! I moved from home to Ga a lil over a year ago and I miss it so bad, this made me cry just wanting to come home for a visit! Great work and keep it up!

  • Where inGa. are you? My husband & I now live in Ga. My family is from Pikeville. My Daddy asked him when we married, " What are you going to do when Ky. plays Ga.?" He told my Dad we'll just fight like Cats & Dawgs! Go Cats!

  • hell yea man this is wear im going to this sunday

  • i had no idea these kind of things were in Pikeville...nice video...i am from "my town" Danville, KY

  • Amy and Chad. You people are great. Wonderfully produced movie of the little town in which I partied hard in my younger days. You did a great job. Love the way the music fits the pictures. You go guys!!!!!! Love Ya, Trina

  • This is a great video. It shows just how great our little town is!

  • Excellent video! Pikeville has sights and places like no other town in America.
