amazing shots..! it seems he pulls the ball of the front foot and still exceptionally well. Another right handed batsman of modern times who I think is a good puller is Mark Boucher of SA. Do you have any videos of him similar to this one?

Most Indian fans fail to realize that Ponting gets along really well with the Indian players (Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Tendulkar, etc)...Sydney '08 was handled poorly but people need to get over themselves. Ponting was gracious enough to allow Laxman to bat with a runner at Mohali, which won us the match. His attitude and captaincy skills haven't always been the best, but he's still a genius batsman

09:05; Best one, His head is right on the ball and the bat is comming from the back of his head, can not miss the line of the ball. Only thing remaining was a powerfull smack, and Ponting is the BEST at this. Wonderful Player ...................no doubt about it.

@c3vzn Tendulkar crumbles under pressure. I remember how he had a string of ducks under the pressure of captaincy. Rarely has he performed under pressure and made wins for India. He is just a joker after his personal stats and maintain his place in the Indian side. On the other hand, Ponting has captained the Australian side and led them to victory on numerous occasions. So who is better? A man stuck in team to maintain supremacy over his records, or a man who performs under pressure? :)

Plus ponting had an amazing 5 yrs I agree bt look at the present... Tendulkar has been prevailing over the last 22 yrs.. Plus I think Dravid is a much much better no. 3 than him...

@partha123dbr It does not matter whether you open or you come in the middle or upper order...you have to perform, and Ponting has been terrific under pressure situations.....a hard earned century against India in the Quarter final in the world cup, and plus a career captain puts a lot of pressure on the mind not just to perform well, but to consolidate the efforts of the entire Australian team, and Sachin crumbled under pressure when he was captain for a short while...Ponting is the best!

@partha123dbr We all know what Ponting did to Harbhajan in the World Cup 2003......he hammered him and other bowlers all over the park. I remember the two consecutive sixes off of Harbhajan...BANG!!! BANG!!! and reached 140 not out and knocked India's bricks out of the competition. Let me know what you think about that one.

@Indianmasterify Graham Gooch and David Boon both had their share of problems against the seaming ball but scored well against the WI. Gooch had two horror series against Alderman but scored more runs against the WI than any batsman in the 1980s. And if Ponting had some inherent problem with the seaming ball outside off stump as you say, he wouldn't average 67 in tests against Pakistan (who arguably had the best seam attack in the late 90s and early 2000s).

I wish Ponting had played during or after the Chappell era and taken on the WI quicks. Among contemporary batsmen, he and Dravid are the only ones who would have flourished against that awesome pace battery. Dravid due to the soundness of his technique and unwillingness to give up and Ponting due to the fact that he is one of the finest back foot players ever. Unfortunately, the closest we ever got to seeing Ponting against the WI pace battery was Gabba 1996-97. But that was about it.

Aravinda de Silva was legendary at playing short-pitched stuff. Most Asian players don't play it well. De Silva's hooks were savage.

What a player..Hard to imagine after 40 tests his average was only 45, then 40 later his average was 59, easily the greatest batsman of the last decade, probably the greatest player.

Before anyone has a bitch, Tendulkar is a great player as well, played shit through the middle of the 2000's though when Punter was at his peak, now Tendulkar's peaked again and Ponting's dropped a bit..(well, only dropped in the Ashes series).

I've never seen a better player of the pull than Ponting, not in 35 years anyway. At his best he is better than Tendulkar but Tendulkar's longevity and calmness make him better in an eduring sense if anything. The vast changes to the side messed Ponting up as he knew he'd have to hit 200 every time he batted just for his side to win and his form and average suffered because of it. Without captaincy burdens now I think his form of old might return.
