I remember playing this song for my wife the very first time. I turned around and she was crying. Now when I hear it, it's my turn. God Bless you Marvin and Tammi
Heard this in my first year at Knoxville College, sang by a couple at a talent show on campus. This is remained with me and in my heart for that heaven sent one. Wonderful memory.
THE LOVE THAT WE ALL HAD IN THOSE DAYS IS STILL HERE. I GREW UP LIVING NEXT DOOR TO, TAMMI, JEAN, ERNIS,AND THE TERRELL FAMILY. I NEVER KNEW HOW BIG THAT FAMILY WAS BECAUSE I WAS A KID. BUT I DO REMEMBER THE NITE WHEN ERNIS TERRELL ,AND ALI, BOX THAT WEEK. I WAS SITTING ON THE TERRELLS FRONT STEPS WHEN ERNIS CAME HOME.HE LOST THE FIGHT. THAT WHOLE FAMILY ,THE TERRELL,S WAS SOME DOWN TO EARTH PEOPLES.
This is my favorite singing duet of all time. Check out the Unsung episode about Tammy Terrell...just an amazing soul. Definitely gone too soon at the age of 24.
I was really to young to know Tammi Terrell the way that I got to know Marvin Gaye but man, as I watch Tammi sing with Marvin in real time I have simply fallen in love with her. Her talent, beauty
and extremely sexy persona. I am blown away by her senuous style; so femine and yet in charge. Nocaro thank for this lovely song and tribute.
You couldn't find a more perfect couple in music. It's a shame Tami didn't pick Marvin instead of "Satan" David. Marvin being the man he was, stayed out of it, but according to his Bio always truly adored her. I guess God didn't have it in the cards for them. Oh they would have made a perfect couple and little ones. May they all Rest in Peace and sing for all the Angels & God in Heaven. God Bless........
Tammi Terrell was not even 25 when she died in the Spring of 1970. Tammi had a whole life ahead of her when The Good Lord took her from all of us. I know that Marvin stepped back from public life, for a good long while, after her death. They were a very special duet and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to be alive while they were performing together.
my condolences to Valerie Simpson for her loss. i've had the pleasure of enjoying the music she and Nick wrote for Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, smokey robinson, and others ever since my childhood. they also wrote "I AM YOUR MAN" for Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers. Nick Ashford and Jerry Leiber are in musical heaven.
Tammy you may only be here with us in soul but I want you to know your the most BEAUTIFUL WOMAN I HAVE EVER KNOWN ABOUT. THANK YOU YOU TAMMY AND MARVIN FOR THE BEST LOVE SONG EVER AND NICK THANK YOU ALSO. I KNOW ALL THREE ARE TOGETHER TALKING NOW.
Tammi: You may have left us (too soon), but you'll always be in my heart. Heaven must have sent you from above! You're the closest I've ever known to a real, living and breathing angel! Love your voice, and everything about you!
This music was and will ALWAYS be the best compared to this crap they have today. I think Marvin and Tammi are one of the best duos ever!! I think she is so cute and sweet i am so sorry she had such a short and troubled life I so wish they were both still with us!!!!!!
I cannot wait for someone to make a movie about these two. I was told that only stories about singers or actors/actresses who had drama would likely have a chance to become a movie. If these two did not have drama, I don' t know who did. Each had a dramatic beginning and end to their precious lives. They had more drama than some of the movies that I have seen about different stars.
This is a beautiful song. I used to play it all the time when I worked in my college radio station, when I was a freshman in l967. This brings tears to my eyes, it is so beautiful, and it reminds me of when I was young, and people loved me.
what most people dont know is that these two were not in a relationship. They were put together as a duo by Berry Gordy and they made such magic during their performances that many people were fooled into believing they were a couple. I too thought this until watching UNSUNG. It was actually David Ruffin that Tammi Terell had a long term relationship with, which shocked the heck out of me.
@javoneandadrian It may of been Marvin's greatest regret in a way. There's no doubt they loved each other, and in the best and most caring, way possible... whereas her relationship with Ruffin was twisted, and his with Berry Gordy's sister was twisted... classic story. The right one is the one you say is just a friend, know what I mean? Everybody does it. This song is particularly meaningful as your hear the words, really listen to them.

I am so glad I lived in this era of decent and sincere music. My only regret is that they never married. They loved each other and it showed in their videos and music. The music today consist of sex, rappers totally disrespecting females, women disrespecting themselves and their bodies. Today, sex sells; back in the day music/lyrics sold.
I watch unsung and just made me love tammi terrel even more. God bless her soul she went through a lot but she in a better place now. she sings so wonderful and she is a true preformer. love for ya tammi.
It was heaven to have these two sing together. No matter how much they are well missed their songs will live for eternity. Much thanks and love to Marvin & Tammi Sincerely, Your Precious Love.
