@kmbbmk1 if you go to any west African market they have the powder that's already grounded for you... you simply pour water into it until it is the similar consistency as pancake batter,, making sure to stir it very well and mash all the knots and unmixed portions. once this is done you place it in the microwave(b/c its easier) for about 6 minutes or until it is a high yellow color,not pale yellow. then you mix it along the side of the bowl and serve.

Foufou to me (Abron/Koulango-Ivory Coast origine) is usually made with plantain (ripe or non-ripe); it can be done with yam also (not to be confuse with potato--in french it is igname). it is not mash thoroughly like foutou. We call what other west African call fufu, Foutou. Foutou can be made with yam, taro, plantains (ripe-my fav or not ripe) w/t cassava. Normally in my culture we mix the plantain w/t a little of cassava to give it a thougher structure. Oh how do I miss foutou!
@NadegeP1 oh I forgot to mention the main difference between foufou and foutou beside the texture ia mixing palm oil foufou to give it a different color & taste (it makes it red & gives it a nice taste)--I think we mix onion, pepper and other things in it and can be eating without sauce unlike Foutou. Sauce for Foutou can be sauce grain (sauce made out of palm), peanut sauce, Okra sauce, sauce d'aubergine, sauce made out of hot pepper and dehydrated fish (poison sec) etc,,,

my family [on both sides] is west african, yet i was born in america. Fufu is usually made with plantains and whatever is grown in a region that will work. African food is terrible. The reason why african food is terrible is because africans are soo poor so they have never built up any propserus food-culture. Thank God for the colonialization of Africa. Now you can find eatable food all around Africa but it cost a lot. Personally I like this deep fried bun called "poff poff" so long you dip it in suger. I can only eat a few of those,though. European,Arab, and Asian cusine is good though.

I'm from Ghana west Africa and, that is....not fufu. seriously that is Gari pino or eba. Fufu is made with pounded yam, cassava, Plantian or cocoyam. we swallow it or eat it with soup. please dont talk about things you dont know. get your facts right before you open your mouth to the world. my family [on both sides] is west african, yet i was born in america. Things about this video is sort of odd-ish 2 me, espicially the whole thing w/ you cant eat w/ your right hand...o.o....says who?!?! & speaking of eating w/ hands, i havent seen anyone eat fufu w/ their hands ever since i was like 6 & now im 16. Ive been used to seeing fufu being eaten w/ a spoon, no matter where im at. Well when i take my trip to africa later this year i hope to see someone eating fufu with their hands lol:)

@BrandonStillJerks There is something similar over most of sub-Sahelan Africa, but made with different ingredients, slightly different methods. Fufu is usually made with plantains and whatever is grown in a region that will work. The problem may be that there are so many different languages in Africa that one food item may go by a hundred names or the same name be applied to a hundred products. Is it worth starting a tribal war on YouTube?

"fufu" made with plantain only is not the fufu we know in west africa, you have to balance it out! heck you can even replace the cassava with cocoyam.
The food they're eating in this video is not fufu, its gari cooked with hot water (sort of how you would cook powdered mashed potatos on the stove)
