I entered Gr. 7 the year this aired. It was when I was introduced to algebra. Mind you, it was relatively simple, as I recall. A second grader could have picked it up. Seemed the further they took us into math, the less we saw actual numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, ...). By Gr. 11 most of our "numbers" were basically letters from the Greek alphabet: pi, theta, sigma, etc.
I feel so old knowing I was actually alive during this time, as a 2 year old granted, but still. I'm 36 today and wow look at those abysmal clothes. What the flying fuck is going on with Bobby's hair? Was that actually a style in 1977? It's amazing that calculators were seen as some amazing technology in the 70s, I thought nothing of them as a kid in the 80s and 90s. And I didn't learn pre-algebra until 6th grade, then full blown algebra in 8th grade, so Greg is wrong about algebra in 2nd.
Douglas must have been very hard up for guests to feature this bunch of dipshits, lets face facts here The Brady Bunch never really had high ratings & was put together so cheaply as far as actors, Schwartz did nothing to improve anything over its 5 years run. At the end as soon as the cast demanded more money he shut this show down fast and that was the end.
Read Barry WIlliams excellent autobiography "Growing Up Brady: I Was A Teenage Greg". He talks about the lengthy, lengthy pages of notes Robert Reed would send creator Sherwood Schwartz and the producers over plot elements and dialogue that he found appalling; he finally reached his boiling point in those two episodes, the pie-throwing one and "The Hair-Brained Scheme". He was indeed on the set, behind the cameras, as that final episode was filmed.
I don't blame him for refusing to appeal in that final episode. It was absolutely lame. Even by the 70s kids with a entrepeneurial spirit weren't going door-to-door pushing hair tonic; they did things like greeting cards, seeds, or the Grit newspaper.
Even when I first saw the end where the family is coming home from Greg's HS graduation and Carol comments "It's too bad your father's out of town on business and had to miss it" I thought, "What kind of father misses something like that?"
@rem2267 So true, but this is the case of most soft ball interviews. They talk about anything except the hard questions that people that want answered. Can you imagine if he asked "Why did you walk off and refuse to appear in the last Brady Bunch episode?"
Sue Olsen and Geri Reischl can both be found on Facebook with very active presences. Two things surprise me about this clip... one, that Robert Reed, who essentially walked off the original series and quit, looks so relaxed talking about the jaw-droppingly doofy Krofft series here; and two, that McCormick got through this appearance without the apparent aid of blow (something she no longer relies on, of course). Sue looked adorable as always. Funny about those "com-pu-ters"!
Robert Reed never walked off the original series. The producers did not write him in the last episode but in everyone says he was indeed there lurking backstage and in the recent TV recounts of the story he is shown doing so. Robert Reed appeared in EVERY single Brady Bunch reunion TV show and movie required of him.
Thanks for that info, although I have reservations about its accuracy. I also feel "required" was a very, very odd way of putting it. I can't imagine that any of the actors was considered to be on the hook in perpetuity with the roles they were first given back in 1968 and 1969.
Gene Hackman was originally signed to play the part of Mike Brady.
The producers got a little gun shy and decided to go with a more known actor at the last moment. Robert Reed had played one of the leads in a well received drama series that was coming to an end. When the producers learned that they'd be able to get Reed they dumped Hackman.
Gene Hackman's success as an actor came about as a result of losing his job to Robert Reed.
@atwtlukesnyder You are not correct. The producers of the show would not lie. Even the cast members speak on how Reed walked off the pie throwing episode and the last episode of the hair die because he thought it to be too stupid. Everyone that had a part in the show has spoken about this
I dont think Maureen McCormick (Marcia) is wearing a bra. Look between 4:06 to 4:16.

Yeah, Douglas ain't a brain surgeon. I'd assume Reed knew the names of the kids, considering he'd worked with them for like eight years.

1) What's up with the Bozo the Clown wig on Bobby?
2) Barry Williams is HOT, and Chris Knight is a close second.
3) And David Soul... oooh, la-la!
