I don't think there is a record because every course is so different. Not all courses are 5K, and even those which are, often are not measured accurately.

Having said that, people do talk about records for the marathon, even though the courses for that are also quite different (the distance is always the same).

The fastest time this year (2009) is listed as 14:42. German's time in this race was 14:24, a HUGE difference. I've never seen anything like what he did that day.
