Well obviously as everyone has said the Supra only does as well as it does because its slipstreaming the F40.
Having said that, it is extremely impressive that the Supra is even able to do that - if the bodywork had also been modified for aerodynamics it might have performed even better.

Well since the last f40 was bulit in 1992 and only made about 420hp why not compare it to a 1992 supra and see how it goes. I dont think it would be such a close race even if it was heavily modified.
well, the bigger top speed of the supra is performed using the slipstream generated by the better aerodynamics of the Ferrari...(as you can see from 0:42 to 0:50) If the Supra was alone, it would never have performed such a top speed, and you can be sure of that also because the inferior supra aerodynamics doesn't allow its driver to overtake the Ferrari.

both are nice cars, both look cool and have that "you don't see that everday" type of reaction. But personally I'd take the F40. The Ferrari engine takes MUCH more abuse than a Supra engine. I don't understand how people think a purpose built racing engine is going to do worse in racing than a moderately powerful engine built to be moderately reliable.

@derhausaholic not to argue, but fyi: when toyota developed the supra's engine, they knew they would be racing in jgtc with it, so they built it accordingly. also, ferrari's are known for being pampered, low mileage cars. there aren't many out there with over 60k on the odometer, so we don't know how reliable they really are. whereas there are tons of high mileage supras, doing just fine. with all of that said, obviously i would kill to own an f40, and would take one over a supra any day!! :D
I understand what you're saying, but the 60-70yr old exec buying a ferrari isn't really going to get a lot of miles because they simply don't drive that much. Not a single Ferrari has EVER competed in the BTCC. Ferrari don't compete in touring car championships, those are for volume cars from big manafacturers. They 4 door sedans.
Ferrari do however race in sportscar races and in endurance races where they haven't excelled in several decades. In the 24 hours of LeMans they haven't won outright since 1965.
Ferrari also went without a single F1 title 1979-2000, that's 20 seasons without winning it. What took them so long??

If a certain supra performs better than a ferrari then the supra is a BETTER car as long as you see both cars for their performance merit and not their ability to help you with women ;)

Well no shit he drafted. the top speed of the supra was 318km/h and the f40 was 308... he kept surpassing the f40 clearly after the draft had no effect, higher speeds that supra is slightly faster. he had to slow back down around the turn

both are nice cars, both look cool and have that "you don't see that everday" type of reaction. But personally I'd take the F40. Maybe its the sentimental part of me, (much of my ancestry is Italian) or maybe cuz I was born in 1987. Not trying to be a fanboy - Supras a neat cars in their own right, I just like the F40 more.

LOL at you guys defending the F40 as if you could ever afford one. The supra is at least attainable by a middle-class person, not just the super rich. Not to mention it is a serious competition race car that will hang with almost anything when properly tuned and built. Both amazing cars and to a lot of people(myself NOT included) the supra IS the best car of all time. Its all just opinions. Also, f40 is tuned you whiney babies, its a fucking twin turbo v8 that weighs next to nothing.

Take any Supra (with 300 to 1700hp) vs. a F40 LM (never mind the faster race only version)around the 'Ring, and itll get murdered.

The Ferrari engine takes MUCH more abuse than a Supra engine. I don't understand how people think a purpose built racing engine is going to do worse in racing than a moderately powerful engine built to be moderately reliable.
And I've never heard anyone whos opinion on cars was worth anything, say ferrari engines blow up in a week. They don't... they need tune ups, sure, but to say they blow up in a week is ignorant.

@derhausaholic not to argue, but fyi: when toyota developed the supra's engine, they knew they would be racing in jgtc with it, so they built it accordingly. also, ferrari's are known for being pampered, low mileage cars. there aren't many out there with over 60k on the odometer, so we don't know how reliable they really are. whereas there are tons of high mileage supras, doing just fine. with all of that said, obviously i would kill to own an f40, and would take one over a supra any day!! :D

I understand what you're saying, but the 60-70yr old exec buying a ferrari isn't really going to get a lot of miles because they simply don't drive that much. There are tonnes of ferraris in BTCC that race and Ferrari touring cars are some of the best out there. Let alone the fact that they dominated F1 by a lot for like 10yrs at least. Barely now do others stack up a bit.
That being said, I'm glad you're not one of these retarded kids taking a 90s sporty toyota over a Ferrari.

Not a single Ferrari has EVER competed in the BTCC. Ferrari don't compete in touring car championships, those are for volume cars from big manafacturers. They 4 door sedans.
Ferrari do however race in sportscar races and in endurance races where they haven't excelled in several decades. In the 24 hours of LeMans they haven't won outright since 1965.
Ferrari also went without a single F1 title 1979-2000, that's 20 seasons without winning it. What took them so long??

Supra with as much money put into it as to make it as expensive as an f40 would definitely be faster than an F40, at least in a straight line...
But what people never take into consideration is the huge amount of R and D that goes into the ferrari and all the F1 tech and blah blah blah... It's cutting edge shit...
The Supra is just a front engined RWD car with a tough ass engine.

If I had a choice between a MUCH faster Supra or a Ferrari F40, I would take the F40 in a heartbeat for many many reasons. Even if the Supra was tuned right, I'd still take the real man's car: the F40
There's a reason why the F40 is considered to be one of the greatest cars of all time and the Supra is not. Same story with best looking cars of all time

That's the difference between a lot of enthusiasts. For many of us, a car doesn't have to be an icon or a status symbol. It just has to be an all-out performance machine. If a certain supra performs better than a ferrari then the supra is a BETTER car as long as you see both cars for their performance merit and not their ability to help you with women ;)

@CasterTown The difference between me and you is you like cars and I love cars. I don't love the F40 just because it's fast and has a great badge. I love it mostly because it has character. Back to the Supra, I would rather have a Honda S2000 or VW Golf GTI over it because those have more character than a Supra. The Supra is BY FAR the better car, it has no problems. But (oxymoron warning), that is it's problem. The lack of fault makes it boring

You can't compare those cars.....

Different classes, different puspose of construction, different mentalities, different schools, etc. etc. etc.
On the performance:
Sure a fully moded Supra would win on a straight, but still tracks are not straight.
I love Supra, but this Ferrari is a masterpiece and one of a kind.
The only reason this video exists i think can be to show how good THIS Supra is.

of course the f40 is quicker cuz it's lighter and its a v8 and its got a bigger turbo. yes the supra is modded but it's not a high output supra with no more than 450 bhp . the supra is much cheper to fix compared to an f40 if something breaks on the ferrari it would cozt u probably your land and house to fix. i would take a supra anyday over an f40 for everyday use and fun.

Considering the Supra is MUCH heavier than the F40 it did well.
A F40 weighs around 1050kilos (2323Ib's)
A Supra weighs around 1700kilos (3761Ib's)
Power-to-weight ratio people. The F40 was king of that for over 10 years.
It's fair that both that cars have a similar displacement. 2936cc for the F40 and 2997cc for the Supra.

Well no shit he drafted. the top speed of the supra was 318km/h and the f40 was 308... he kept surpassing the f40 clearly after the draft had no effect, higher speeds that supra is slightly faster. he had to slow back down around the turn
