c'est drôle comment une manière de jouer peux complètement changer l’ambiance de la mélodie ... je viens d'écouter un autre version , beaucoup plus mélancolique et noble, en comparaison a celle ci plus vive, enjoué et tape a l'oeil .
Why do people always have to hyperbolize fine music to the level of some bloody nonsense like this? Go listen to authentic Shostakovich, maybe it's not that entertaining, but much more heart inspiring, after all who said that art is enteratinment. And to those here who begin again and again talking about Russian history and communism in particular: please I beg you, leave our history alone, don't prove once again that you absolutely have no idea about history of Russia, ridiculous...
Anyone interested in tickets to see Andre Rieu in Sydney? I have two tickets to sell. Gold Class. Please msg me. This is not spam. Buyer must pick up.
At first, Shostakovich would have been very happy indeed seeing such large crowd all happy and singing. When the violinist enters an octave higher the way he enters, Shostakovich would have paused his breath for a second and then thought, "Oh, why not?" But when the trombone enters, he would have nervously smiled, looked around, looked at his shoes, and reached for a cigarette in his pocket. "They don't know what they sing about" (V.A.Berlinsky)
Whenever I have had a particularly hard day I come home and listen to this and all of a sudden things don't seem so bad. This wonderful man has the ability to bring joy and happiness xx
drives me nuts!! can,t get it out of my mind, soul, what have you. just a wonderful piece of uplifting music. too bad the so called classic music station here in phoenix doesnt recognize shotacovich more.they are too pre occupied with tollemman,s brand of chamber crap!
Andre Rieu is without a doubt, the best violinist that is walking today. He can make music out of anything...an absolute talent. He is my idol. They looked like they were having so much fun preforming this!
when Brit's had a beer and a turkey in the PUB Russian people had nothing to eat ,Russian soldiers died in the Stalingrad battle during second WW2.Schostacovich wrote this walts at this time ,he never left Leningrad, during the blocade of this city. But Brit's never helped us,.Dimitry Shostacovich is a man ,unlike sissy queers from Britain.!!!
each time Andre plays this music, u can see people dancing, even in the Radio City, Albert hall, in between chairs, on stairs lol...all ages, it is irresistable :D
Although somewhat contorted from the original intent. If ,Andre's version brings,or introduces more people to clasical music, then,I say bravo. Besides, music is always a fluid movement, like life
Yes some music is just for entertainment-nothing wrong there. However much classical music digs much deeper and expresses the human experience.Just listen to Mahler, ,Mozart,Schubert. Interestingly ,Shostakovich's symphonies are about as bleak as you can get and are nothing like this waltz he wrote.
This version sounds more like J Last than Shostakovich. Why does'nt Rieu do a Shostakovich symphony like the 5th if he is good at the composer. Er..slight problem there I think for a singalong!!.
I see Shostakovich is getting the Rieu treatment like Beethoven,J Strauss etc. He would be appalled as I am .There should be a law against Rieu runing classical pieces-would we accept a Rembrandt or Da Vinci painting being cut up and being made simpler for a mass audience? I think not.
Shostakovich wrote this as an ironic waltz. Like the Strauss waltzes, the music is totally debased into robotic lift music for singing clapping masses! I urge readers to please avoid this if they respect music.
Music is mean to be enjoyed. I enjoy this ... am I wrong? You know, Proman84 - life is far too short to worry about how an orchestra plays a piece of music - the fact that this classical music is reaching so many ears is what's important ... yes?
You should show some respect for those musicians playing this wonderful piece. With such a beautiful melody there's no such things a "terrible". Perhaps just not your cup of tea. that's all
You know, I didn't mean any disrespect with my comment. The point I was making, is that they are butchering what I consider to be a good piece of music. You may consider this to be harsh but that's my opinion and it's criticism not an insult and if you want dig deeper the issue I have is not with their skill but with their take.
(and I have to say that it's a bit unusual talking about that is issue with someone with that kind of nickname but I guess it's alright).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This so fluffy and light.

There is a shadow over Shostacovich's music. Remove the shadows and and cover it in candy and icing sugar and you loose the man and the age he lived in
