According to soccerexperts Iran was a candidate for winning the worldcup. Why was the performance so bad at the WC. Because Irans results were controlled by the government. They could not win a match, because if they did the people would go on the streets and celebrate wich would lead to riots and evantually a revolution!

A soccer team such as ours, no matter how talented its players, simply can't perform their best when they:
-Live under an oppressive regime + are under political pressure
-Aren't funded enough to fully train their own star players.
-Are led by coaches which are under even more political pressure, i.e. favouring certain players even if they are not best choice
I believe these boys are the best players of all - to be able to make it to such a level with the mounting pressure on them.
