I love how the time they spent on the amount of character development make every moment, every punch and every line of dialogue that much more powerful and keep you on the edge of your seat. It's funny, when Toguro says "Maybe not for long Yusuke," they way he said it could have meant two things:

1. A hint to Yusuke, who is already feeling guilty for his incompetence for not using his power to protect his friends, that the whole thing was just a stunt. And that Toguro just said that to keep up his "bad-ass villian with no soul" facade

2. Toguro was really cold-hearted (which we know he wasn't).
