  • Mastodon - one of the best band ever!

Check my music on my channel!

    Long live STONER and SLUDGE!

  • You know, for a long time I thought that I was really bummed about not having had the chance to got to one of the shows when they opened up for Metallica. By now Im really glad that never happened, because I could never go to any other concert again... they would all suck compared.

  • Christ this barrage of noise made with semi-professional instruments is SO tiring. I wish these guys, especially the drummer and the singer would just move on with their lives and move into other careers. Gentlemen, the service industry awaits your completed application forms.

  • @mr10pm then why are you here? just because you have a pole up your ass doesn't mean you have to run around jabbing the rest of us

  • @mr10pm Agreed. This is pretty boring.

  • Comment removed

  • @mr10pm Have you heard their other stuff from their other albums? If not, then I suggest checking them out and rethink what you said in this comment.

  • 2:39 should have been longer, sigh.

  • 2:39

if you're not headbanging then gtfo \m/ :P

  • None of their albums even come anywhere close to bad.

  • No offense, but after Crack The Skye, they kind of lost it. The Hunter didn't even sound like the sludge metal that Mastodon became so famous for. Remissions was still a kick-ass album.

  • @HammerNHook I agree, they streamlined their sound way, WAY too much.

  • remission is a great album, and the hunter compared to remission are two different sounds. people that are hating on the hunter for the wrong reasons should watch this video, brann explains this evolution

  • So much better than The Hunter.

  • 1:46 Best bass solo ever.

  • @thatguy145025 are you serious? it sounds like static

  • @420mofuckah Just listen to anything off of this or Leviathan. All Troy uses (most of the time) is massive amounts of distortion and fuzz. Sounds like static, but somehow it's the best bass sound in the world.

  • @thatguy145025 wow you sound crazy, he uses this sound that sounds like static and its the best bass sound ever i dont know alot about bass but i have enough common sense to know that static sounds like fucking shit

  • @420mofuckah Well everybodies got their opinion. I used to think static sounded like shit too, most of it does really. But in the right places it's just fucking heavy you know? I just saw Mastodon last Monday and I crowd surfed and moshed to this song the most.

  • sounds like something chuck schuldner would of wrote.

  • this song gives me 12 boners

  • Awesome band but dinosaurs died way before first Mastodons every came...this band is really nice

  • mastodon truly covers the entire spectrum of amazing metal. songs like this sound nothing like "the last baron", but both are amazing.

  • @hockyfrek1 The last Baron has to be my favorite mastodon song. Followed by The Czar, then Mother puncher, Then blood and thunder.

  • That album cover is so fucking METAL!

  • remission was one of the heaviest albums ive ever fell in love with, i really hope mastodon will make something along those lines again. i mean i love all of their stuff, but remission just stirs up stuff in me

  • i turned it up to loud to hear any comments!

  • The last riff actually feels like being overrun by a behemoth.

  • mastodon tends to do albums based off the feel of certain elements. and crack the skye was air while remission was fire. but atleast elements like metal are coming up lolol. personally i love all of there stuff

  • @matrox999 Crack the Skye was Ethereal, they're doing air next.

  • @MutilationOfTheWeak I'm interested in seeing what the theme for air was.

Fire's theme was hard hitting, unrelenting songs with wild riffs and harsh vocals.

Water's theme was unpredictability (switching between harsh and calm i.e., Iceland and Seabeast), and surreal.

Earth's was fear of the unknown and the bumps in the night.

Aether's theme was just avant-garde, surreal, and wispy.

If anyone can figure out what theme is next, it's Mastodon. I still trust them to making amazing music.

  • @MutilationOfTheWeak What stupidity are you talking about? Dont even presume to declare some nonsense like that, as if you actually know what you are talking about. At least not without backing it up with CLEAR sources. Otherwise rephrase and complete your sentences, for it to be CLEAR that it is nothing more than your single individual opinion.

  • @ghoawaynetcabo "Crack The Skye is a departure from everything we've previously recorded in the sense that we kinda strapped on our aeroshells and departed from Earth for a while, and then captained to the ethereal element of the universe and kind of slept on the roof of the world for a while to get a perspective on this record. ... Basically we're exploring the ethereal world. We're dissecting the dark matter that dominates the universe, in a nutshell." -Troy Sanders.

  • @ghoawaynetcabo well look it up dickhead it took me ten seconds to verify this guys statement, prolly took you twice as long to put together your little rant there

  • @ShoveDaddy How quick were you to decide to add your rude and pointless little comment? Bad decisions are easy and quick when you dont actually THINK first. And who the f made you think that your dumbass was welcome in this conversation? In your thorough "ten seconds" verifications, oh great worthless investigator, did you happen to come across Brents words in this video: a_C-UdQ8WBo. It's an over 10second video that would make you THINK. Hope I'm not confusing you. Fuck sakes...

  • No need to classify whether music is good or not based on its genre. What is amazing, however, is that one band can play each genre amazingly and still come off as wicked unique and talented.

  • I fucking love Crack the Skye just as much as I love Remission. I swear half of all people that hate on the newer material of any band just do it so they look "cool" for being there when they started or something.

Leviathan was a 9/10 album in my humble opinion, the rest have been 10/10. Just fucking enjoy one of the best bands in the world while they are still around.

  • @donnymurph I gotta say. I got into Mastodon during Remission, and the more people that listen to them, the better as far as I care, but YOU CANNOT DENY how much their songwriting has changed in terms of influence and style. Crack the Skye is such a different record from their previous stuff and I really did not enjoy it. I don't hate Crack the Skye but it's not the Mastodon I got to know and love. The Hunter was decent IMO, but again, almost a different band.

  • @ipo1103 i agree so much, my favourite album is crack the skye (thats the album that got me into them) but remission and crack the skye sound like totally different bands. Both albums are still amazing though.

  • @ipo1103 This band tends to break the mold, if you pay attention no album holds the same exact style which is in a way refreshing. You don't know what your going to be looking foward too each time they come out with a new album.

  • @donnymurph Really? Leviathan was worst? Blasphemy!

  • drum porn

  • damn that rips ... but the intro is a totally rip off from the band Today is the day , maiby they pay tribute maiby its just a freak thing ... but relly who cares it kick ass !!! thanks for the post

  • @jesperjensen74 One of the guitarists and the drummer (Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor, respectively) were in Today Is The Day, although I think they were the last couple of members that joined.

  • 2:39 goddamn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:39 commence insane fucking headbanging

  • They won't go back to this. They claimed they like the directions they went with Crack The Skye was a lot more relaxing and they were a better band cause of it.

  • @ZurkonTheDestroyer just because they claim they liked what they did with crack the skye doesnt mean they could put a little of this in the next album.

  • Intro reminds me of King Crimson. ^.^

  • I love Brann Dailor's drumming on all of Mastodon's albums, especially Blood Mountain, but the drums on this album are just out of control. So many fills I don't understand how he could ever remember how to play them all. Fucking crazy.

  • @jr34v3r

ya, Brann is not human, there is no drummer in the world that makes so many fills and remembers every single one of them when he plays live

  • @jr34v3r maybe its improvisation with puch like in jazz ;p

  • Genres are important for describing sound. My friend tried to describe what Baroness sounded like to my other friend and couldn't, but I just said it's like Neoclassical Sludge Metal with a little Alt Metal here and there. It worked. They are also cool cause you feel like you belong somewhere in the Metal world. There's the Black Metal guys, the Thrash guys etc. etc.

  • Their breakdown towards the end is sooo beast...Shit that's awesome.

  • First time i am listening to this album and... its just awsome!

  • the ending is sick...very Pantera-esque

  • Yeah I fucking hate idiots who try to put a fucking lable on pieces of art/music like this.

  • I will never stop loving this song.

  • Mastodon

  • Im going to see them in seattle oct 8

  • My mom is seeing them in chicago on thursday

  • @TheYoungFisher96 Your mom is awesome.

  • that bass could decapitate a walrus.

  • bran absolutely went off on the drums on this song. like they stole his lunch money, or something.

  • I could totally see a T-Rex headbangin to this music. Ya Dinosaurs definetly listened to Mastodon.

  • @tottalyuniquedude Idk why but i couldnt stop laughin when i read that lol

  • @tottalyuniquedude No they ate them.

  • @GrateGreneBuzzrd u mean mastodon ate the dinosaurs right?

  • @tottalyuniquedude made me lol, thanks

  • kill and I will be damned, forgive and I will be free! \m/ \m/

    omg the end part rocks!!!!!

  • top 10 mastodon songs for me (no specific order except for Hearts Alive, that's one of my favorite songs ever) : Hearts Alive, March of the Fire Ants, Trainwreck, Aqua Dementia, Capillrian Crest, Crack the Skye, The Last Baron, Quintessence,O'le Nessie, Crystal Skull (or Mother puncher)

  • 1:31-1:47 wanna learn how to play that on drums so badly

  • so my brother delibritly called mastodon "faggots" and yet he listens to shit like slipknot and three days grace..... wtf???!!?

  • @youknowyourrite1 to each his own I guess.

  • @youknowyourrite1

    He must be young...

  • @youknowyourrite1 kill him.

  • what time signature is this?!

  • @muffinsNsausage It's mostly in 4/4, but the verses are something like two bars of four/four and one of 5/4

  • sound quality sucks

  • @uhraempire just turn it up

  • anybody kno the lyrics for the chorus?

  • @SkateHack1

i read the lyrics off the lyric sheet that came with the cd, so as far as the "chorus" goes, its either just screaming or it just doesnt say, but all the verses are there.

  • Comment removed

  • That Drum Solo at 1:46 is fucking sick! and the pure headbanging riff at 2:39 is insane! \M/astodon

  • have u hear the iron tusk drum solo?

  • amazing intro, it is awsum, sounds so haunting

  • got this on vinyl, fucking excellent

  • good god. 2:39 is the heaviest, grooviest shit I've heard in a very long time. could even say when last time was actually...

  • @evtanoxx im guessing you meant to say couldn't there?

  • "couldn't", right!

  • i see them tonight in cologne :)

it think it will be amazing!

  • yestarday live in milan... amazing song!!!

  • 2:39 is the fucking Heaviest shit I've ever heard. Best Handbanging music ever.

  • ive herd heavier, but this is still pretty fuckin amazing

  • Yeah, same here. I just REALLY like that riff, haha

  • this is some heavy ass shit! :D

  • All you people are arguing and missing the point: at 2:39, Mastodon plays the smoothest, most headbanging-est riff of the year. Of the decade. Of the millenium.

  • fucking agreed!

  • The riff at 2:39 is like heavy fucking molten lead! \m/

  • @Generalptf they actually play the same riff with a different drum

  • @Generalptf yeah dude...everytime i hear that riff i feel like pooping myself....that shit his heavier than chris farley

  • @Generalptf IDK about that, there's this song Megalodon and Seabeast, sooo......

  • @Generalptf i feel like my head came loose !

  • @Generalptf true story. not my favorite song on remission, but possibly my favorite single moment. also... KILL, AND I WILL BE DAMNED, FORGIVE, AND I WILL BE SET FREE. at least, I think that's what troy sings...

  • @Generalptf SO GOOD.

  • All you guys arguing about genres and stuff... Mastodon are a heavy metal band, with some prog tendencies. Its really not that hard to define and thats what I love. These guys are skull-crushingly heavy but with originality in the composition dept, as well as with their bridges. Having Brann do some of the stuff he does probably throws people of but at the core of it its just heavy ass metal music...

  • Dude I AGREE!

When I was kid all we had was hard rock and heavy metal, now a days, all the kids keep arguing about "this is that and this another thing because it sounds like the first thing with a little bit of the second thing" Fuck That Shit!. All those other names for genres were created by the record companys so they can divide the "market" and create a larger expectation of fans (divide and conquer), evil mother-fuckers!!!

LONG LIVE MASTODON AND HEAVY METAL

  • New stuff and old stuff is different, but it both fucking rocks.

  • they played this live last night and it sounded phenomenal

  • thanks for the post bought tickets for thier show.... lookin like a good investment

  • HAHAHA that's like asking what the melvins are. They don't cgive a fuck, I don't give a fuck and you sure as hell shouldn't give one either. It's music, genres do nothing but pile you up with all the other meatslappers out there in the discount bins. Make music that sounds like you ( on the inside .. and out ), not like a fucking stupid pointless genre.

  • meeen this rocks the shit out of you...

  • Set list last friday: All of crack the skye, circle of cysquatch, aqua dementia, where strides the behemoth, mother puncher, and the bit (melvins cover). Fucking tight as hell.

  • what about Blood and Thunder?

  • Would've been cool, but I'm not complaining. It really was a great show.

  • they played the same thing in atlanta except the Melvins cover.

  • progressive neoclassical post-grindsludge rock/metal... geez, who the fuck cares, just listen to the music and enjoy

  • Thats What I'm Talking About, Big Up

  • I think that they're just Progressive Metal... Just my oppinion

  • I hear what you're saying, but to me that's always implied a certain level of overcomplicated, unnecessary contrivedness to music. These guys are kind of techy, but I don't see them going out of their way to be all weird and mathy and shit. They're just bad ass musicians.

  • Hahahaha you're tottaly right!!!

  • @Infuzor LMAO

  • @Infuzor this is actually apocalyptical drunk-stoner hard rock/dark rock/metal/dark metal/thrash metal/classic metal/doom/progressive rock/metal lepricon.

  • @Infuzor voted down because your just trying to get attention.

  • @KYgelly

Oh my gee, that vote down really hit my heart.

  • @Infuzor Genre's are needed so we dont mix dumb shit with good shit. And by the way it wasnt meant to piss you off. Just get a point through.

  • @Infuzor Me!!!! I care! I'm the belligerent prick who needs my music neatly categorized so that I may act like I have some form of artistic knowledge and comprehension, for one day my obscure knowledge of categories will get me laid! And all of you shall be green and sick with envy!

  • @Infuzor It's Whalecore

  • i hate genres. they can't fully describe true music.

  • Drums in this song are intense.

  • amazing song but march of the fire ants is still my favorite from remission

  • Do you like their precursor insanity THAT is Call of the Mastodon, before Remission?

  • first mastodon song i ever heard. i still am looking for fragments of my nuts from the aftermath of the first listen.

  • I agree.

  • defo!!

  • @MasterChiefNewb they seem to be leaning in a more progressive-rock direction now, as opposed to prog-metal

  • @MasterChiefNewb Indeed

  • @MasterChiefNewb I saw Brent Hinds in an interview where he said that all their albums had a theme con sisting of the four elements so the remission was about fire, Leviathan - water, Blood Mountain - earth and Crack the Skye - air, which means that it has a another approach compared to the previous records. I think in the next album they will return to their old ways!!! ;)

  • @MasterChiefNewb find an interview with brent about their new albums, they arent dropping it all like it never happened they are still going to do it. and i like their older albums more too

  • @MasterChiefNewb if they kept rehashing this stuff, they wouldn't be progressing as a bands/musicians. they will always have that gritty edge to them. (divinations/crack the skye) but they need to progress as a band too.

  • @MasterChiefNewb sorry to burst your bubble, but mastodon said they always wanted to be a band that makes music like the one on there new album, so either like, or go looking for a new favorite band. Either way, stop complaining.

  • This is one of my favourite Mastodon song. So fast, so short, so tough. Really powerful.

  • the part at 1:57 kicks major ass

  • acorn is right

  • 2:29 = sick \m/

  • that ended about 17 years ago ;)

  • Great song, great band. ;)

  • And btw, I typed in nigga not nigger. White people like you are so fucking stupid that you don't' even know the basic case change from your OWN language!! There's a difference between the 2 racial slurs

  • You never did, call me that. I'm using a technique referred to as "Talking in the Perspective in 3rd Person" in those 3 paragraphs like for example "Walk a mile, and then walk an extra mile"

which makes it sound like as if I'm referring to you, but of course you obviously can't read or write, nor understand English even decent (your typos really show your flaws) so I don't expect a retarded cunt like you to understand.

  • Bullshit. Bitch who says I'm trying to act cool? DO YOU THINK I EVEN FEEL COOL OR RELAXED RIGHT NOW???????!!!! Oh yeah and if Metalheads hate Mainstream so much they why do they still watch their music videos or play their commercialized games products? Hmmmmmm?

And asshole, you also forgot YOU CALLED ME GAY FOR NO REASON. Headbanging is always a tradition to Metal and at those concerts, as smashing guitars is to Rock.

And at least I recognize some roots of where Metal really originated from.

  • honestly i cant see how anyone could make any comparison between any band and MAstodon....they are on a whole other level in every category; heavy/musical/intense you name it.....like a breath of fresh air in the music world....well more like a gale

  • this song kick ass

  • That intro is so outrageous and psychopathic!!! This song makes me want to go in the pit, and release my inner, choler, behemoth spirit inside me. Talk about rage, dudes. Damn I love Mastodon, especially this song, because it reminds me of a killer thunderstorm that'll destroy the cities. Thank God for Brann's propellant drums that flows with the song's instruments. And can someone please send me lyrics to growl with Troy?? Because I can never understand what he says on this album!!! Thanks dude

  • hell yeaa!!!!!

  • MASTODON!!! Fuck yes!!! And to anyone who's like a guru to Mastodon, does anyone have any ideas about wtf, the song is about, in general?

  • yupp

  • What's your favorite Mastodon song to headbang to?

  • your getting kinda gay buddy

  • dnt say dat bout my best friend

  • You're the faggot!! What's is so gay about banging your head to a Metal song??? People still do that because it's a tradition of Metal. And I don't befriend "Buddies" like you, notoriousfaggot

  • tell me if this is a normal question

:WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG TO HEADBANG TO????

just ask whats your favorite song, no need to get fucking horny over it

  • I should've said "Favorite Mastodon song to headbang too" And you have a dirty mind, ytou fag, if you were smart and normal, or knew anything ABOUT METAL then you would've realized that I meant that statement in the context of Metal, retard. I hate people like you who come out of nowhere just to diss a person for some stupid saying or opinion. Just fuck off, and listen to the music, homo. You thought that gay stuff because you knew what you could words you could twist out of my mouth, dumbass.
