  • This may have been the greatest 5 minutes in Phish history.

  • I was lucky enough to have been there.

  • The all time worst performance of this is Lou Reed playing it with Metallica.

  • II believe that the poster meant that it seems like Trey's leads all have the same trajectory which kinda made their music sound like a one trick pony.

  • I was at this show. It's the third best Halloween album Phish has done live, after Remain in Light and Quadrophenia. It's the one album where they jammed out and even did Type II jamming.

  • @goodgamexxx

2nd tune is "Rock n Roll" off Lou Reed's "Rock n Roll Animal" album.

  • I love different covers of this song, but Phish definitely makes it special. Another cover that's nice is from Cowboy Junkies, but I'd rather see Phish do it live.

  • the song at the end of this is "rock n roll" badass tune

  • This version is so fantastic. Love lou Reed, and Mott the Hopple's , but this takes the cake forme.

  • this vid kills.

  • What's the tune at the end of this video?

  • @goodgamexxx

    Rock and Roll

  • blissful and exquistite

  • Velvet underground for sure did not like labels and they would probly appreciate that people found their music so influential they even want to turn more people on to it kay

  • I love Phish. Saw them in Chicago and seeing them in Alpine in 6 weeks. Great original music, but - I mean this in the most respectful way possible - I think Phish is one of the Greatest Cover Bands of All Time! They put their spin on the song, while keeping true to how the original artist imagined. Hell, Keith Richards introduced them covering Loving Cup (one of my favorite songs ever, but Phish knocks it OUT OF THE PARK)

  • ah yes my fellow Vermonters

  • Is it still the same song at the end?? Too bad it gets cut off!!

  • Halloween 98 is one of my favorites.

  • what is the name of the song they go into at the end

  • rock n roll, which this still play a good amount. this whole set were all songs from one of Velvet Underground's album.

  • @studrok

the song is called Rock 'n' Roll and it was originally published on Loaded, the Velvet's 4th and last studio album.

  • fuck yeah! (i wonder what sweet jane would look like in costume teehee)

  • Wish I could make it to their Halloween show/festival, '09. Fucking recession...

  • festival 08 would like to have you :) (in costume)

  • Recession = no job/money

  • i couldn't make big cypress cuz i was prego with a phish baby (summer tour 99) I hear ya~ looking back though, i wish i had tried harder to make it happen :) money isn't everything, but it helps

  • the beatles were wrong. ALL YOU NEED IS PHISH>

  • facts mean nothing in the face of phish

  • @sneakonproductionz i like phish but thats fucking retarded

  • first class cover.

  • great song done buy a great band, went to fenway mansfield, going to darien, hartford, and spac, o i cant wait for those three magical nights

  • FUCKIN' GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This rocks!

  • iwas at this show and the night b4 and 2 nights later best this show with the darkside of the moon in utah at the e center . i've seen every show they've played at the thomas&mack and all of them where epic glad ur back boys c u at alpine vally in june

  • I was at this show i must have eaten a lot of lsd that night cause i remember sitting down in a seat to smoke a doobie and ended up not leaving that seat in the unlv center that night. phishman was rocking the drums boy he was amazing that night he came right at me was awesome one hellava show...to be at.. thanks to dem boys playing..

  • God I wish I could get tickets. God I hope they really go on tour. I saw them at kiel center in st. louis in 96 I was 13. Again when I was 15 at riverport. But I didn't try grass til I was 18. So, yeah I really wanna see phish. And also I think Fikus was only played once at riverport in stl?

  • So don't dis people if they want to listen to their own interpretation of some of the greatest Rock 'n' Roll of all time and don't make presumptions about what the Velvet Underground would think. Maybe they are hippies- but whatever dude, Lou Reed has killed this song much worse than they could.

  • @punkace it would suck if Lou Reed played this song now a days trying to imitate how he used to play it. I saw his lollapalooza 2009 performance here on youtube and its fucking great how he plays it now. I dont care if phish covered this, but Lou never killed it.

  • @321Green1Fork123 Not it wouldn't. The way he plays it now sounds like he just doesn't give a shit.

  • The Velvet Underground smoked weed too dude. They certainly liked speed (and they liked talking about Heroin), but they weren't beyond acid and trees- sterling actually quit drugs all together when Loaded was recorded. Anyways- drug culture wasn't why they weren't great fans of "the California scene" as Warhol called it- they didn't like the fact that everyone wanted them to smile 25 hours a day and that the scene out there was living a manufactured existence based on mommy and Daddy's Money.

  • I love the VU dude- but by the time Loaded hit they were a little beyond the dark and sinister phase.

  • I guess it's hard to memorize lyrics

  • then y are u here man go listen to sum shit and leave the good music to people worthy of listening to it like all these fine people leaving good phish comments

  • then the velvetsmust not be very good people

its all about peace love and weed

  • am I the only one who thinks Phish Loaded > VU Loaded? I was just never a huge VU fan... I think Phish does it much better. Probably their 2nd best album cover behind Remain In Light.

  • What's funny is that what made the VU special was that they weren't always the most technical musicians. This song is 4 chords if you don't count the bridge and it's a rock 'n' roll classic.

  • YO

Dis was mah bday show.... i raged mah ass off...and by the wayy da Jam on dis is absolutely sic....woooohhoooo....

    Joe hO..aka deMO

    Some people ...We gotta Work...

  • Clearly has never been to a Phish Show

  • phish are not california hippies they're vermont music lovers

and i think they did this album great

  • Yes, they were covering the entire Velvet Underground album 'Loaded'. They played another band's album every halloween from 1994-1998, a 'musical costume' if you will. I will.

  • UNREAL

  • Sounds like Phish was doing a VU/Lou Reed tribute, they break into Rock n Roll next Would have loved to see that show.

  • The show was sweet, I was lucky enough to catch it and it was one of those shows when I got like 10 feet away from the stage... 8 ) Vegas was an amazing time, invaded by hippies. Yes, the boys played the entire VU album Loaded. Hmmmm, gone are the days.

  • phish is above singing, they're too good for it 8-)

  • take the mics away then. that could be the stupidest thing Ive ever seen anyone write about a band

  • i was joking, of course phish isnt above singing because they do sing. i just meant that phish dont really need to sing to put on a good show

  • good god

  • Good lord.

Anybody have video of the next song (Rock&Roll)?

  • i think i count 6 keyboards that page has, plus the piano

  • The baby grand, Hammond B3, Hohner Clavinet, Fender Rhodes, Moog Source, and I think that's a Yamaha synth in front, not sure.

  • this is such a wonderful version of this song. congratulations phish.

  • this was the greatest moment of my life, being there for this song. It sent me to prison, sent me to a career in fiction, sent me into the beautiful wastelands.

  • heavy

  • LOL

  • God they played so well together

  • Meltdown at 1:52! Straight butta.
