  • That last tune is such a beautiful chart that it makes me cry. It's a total shame that we don't have the same enthusiasm here in the States. Go Nishihara!!!!

  • See, this is the result of hard work and dedication instead of thinking you're entitled to everything like Americans.

  • why so much zooming!!!

  • how long are practices? must be nuts!!!

  • @good1KINGU They put their hours in from what I've read on other threads. But, I'll say this- they practice for results, not hours. Their rehearsal ettiquite and focus have to be incredibly strong- any top organization like this one, whether DCI, top BoA units, top regional circuit units-- it's the quality of rehearsals that matter- not necessarily the time spent. ;)

  • @jenjenmaster I dont think this is the same band as the world famous Nishihara band from Japan. They just don't sound or march the same.

  • @ashgiri94 They are the same.. they wear different unis outdoors.

  • @ashgiri94 You really can't compare their sound on here with their sound indoor because the acoustics are completely different. They'll always sound more powerful indoors. Marching wise I think they're pretty solid. The grass actually looks pretty thick which might be why they don't look as solid as usual.

  • is this the same NIshihara?

  • @dkbassbwoy91 YES.

  • Wow amazing! Did anyone see the bass drum epic fail and ruin the moment at the end? LMFAO:)

  • 2:04 second trumpet screaming FAILURE.

  • Only thing I can say is damn bring back great Memters of Marching band. Going to state finals 3 times. Not sure If you Seen the Indiana state Finals.

  • Saw this vid for the first time.

They seem that they're using some old Jenson's State-of-the-art-series charts.

Those charts should be played over 150 winds, but don't care.

The last tune is a folksong of Okinawa, JPN.

About 20 years ago, an elementary school from Okinawa played this "Endo no Hana" tune at the national championships.

Those kids played amazingly and since then, Okinawa has been a powerhouse of Japanese marchingband scene.

To me, that"s why I was moved by watching this vid.

  • I'd disagree about needing 150+ wings to perform the State of the Art stuff- if you have a solid ensemble who understands how to properly interpret the chart and properly and consistently articulate, play with a homogeous timber and play in tune- they work as evidenced here. I've heard enough bands do those charts who didn;t get that and it was a rather bad experience for everyone involved, let em tell you.

  • hummm Blue Devils from the 80's!

  • Not that I like their other uniforms, but why are they wearing something completely different? Even though the video is not of high quality I can tell they are using Dynasty drums, and that the tenors are a six pack setup. Nishihara uses Pearl, and 5 drum setup on tenors.

  • It is thier original uniform until they changed to thier current unform which you can see in other videos. I see they wear this uniform when they perform at outside events so I assume they use it for outside performances. I am not sure why though.

  • the last song is amazing!!!!! hey, the bass drummer fell down 10:11

  • wait a sec. 1:27 marching with a flugelhorn?

  • Yes- a lot of these type charts use flugels as an intergral part of the brass ensemble to get that timbre and sound. ;)

  • nishihara marches a flugel line, not just specialty for their jazz charts

  • Interesting- it makes sense to do that for any unit when you have personnel who understand how to play them in tune and develop a rich timber from them, and you have an arranger who knows how to make use of them, which NHS certainly does. 8)

  • yeaah, i love their sound, especially indoors.

  • flugel line

  • I haven't heard the second song they played scene I marched to it back in 82. It's called New York Fantasy I think. I think I played the first song as well One More Time it's called.

  • That first tune is "T.O.", by Rob McConnell ('82 Blue Devils' opener). The second tune is "A Quiet Place" by Take 6. The third tune is "New York Fantasy" ('80 and '81 BD opener). The fourth and closing tune is "Endo no Hana".

  • last song amazing! goosebump!

  • The last song was awesome!

  • hmmm... isit me or do they look better in JMBA...???

  • While still a good performance, I'd say they look and sound a lot better in JMBA. I speculate that they were not able to practice on a field much beforehand. Also, it sounded as if they were overblowing a lot and distorting pitch. They were probably told over and over that they needed to be louder outside. Better to back off a bit and sacrifice power for quality. If they had more time outside, they could have practiced playing loudly without distortion of tone or pitch.

  • I wonder if the students wrote this show?

  • thanks a lot, smiletomo......i just love the song......do u now where can i get the mp3?......nishihara's arrangement is fantastic...one of the best songs that i have ever heard too....hehe

  • do any know wat is the title of their last song?....the song is just awesome!

  • It is called "Endo no Hana" and it is an okinawan song. that is one of my favorite song too. I love thier arrangement.

  • personally, i prefer their marching exhibition during JMBA

  • Thank you very much for posting! I saw it in Okinawa right after they came back from the competition!
