I think its because he's being the REAL SOLID SNAKE: Pro. Snake was never about having the BIGGER or FASTER GUN, he was about not having to USE the bigger gun.

No you mentioned Zelda: Ocarina of Time and I don't remember Gannon having an army of female soldiers. Never beat it though so I wouldn't know for sure...
but he haves one, at first he is the only male born on a nation of female thieves, did you saw nabooru? she was suppose to be the queen of that land but he is the king so, they where about to be married as king and queen, the legend says that only one man borns in that nation called "Gerudo", once per 100 years each 100 years born a male thief who later become the king. so all the other Gerudos are woman and he is their king but he abandoned that land and Nabooru is now their leader.
