Sooo...how much is it going to cost to "refill" the BlueTEC when it runs out?? It will probably vaporize any potential savings from using diesel fuel in the first place! :P
The Ammonia break up the Nitrogen Oxide. And the Ammonium? Where do Ammonia go? Do they go into the air? Are they broken down as well? Someone show me a break down formula of this process...
@Cienstin Ammonia and Nitrogen Oxide react with each and are both broken down. I don't know the exact formula, but they are both reduced, and which ever the limiting reagent is (depends on how much ammonia is in reaction), gets all used up. Based on the percentages given, the Ammonia is used up completely to where only 20% of the Nitrogen Oxide remains, and the other 80% is turned into pure Nitrogen which is approximately 78% of what we call "Air"
Just another example of the fallacy behind "green" technology. This reduces nitrates by converting it into water vapor. The consumer purchases this product thinking they are reducing their effect on climate change, when in fact water vapor is one of the biggest attributors to global warming. Instead of covering the earth with a thin bedsheet, your now replacing it with a thick oversized comforter. An illogical "fix" for "global warming".
@expdh1 Nitrates (what you mention) and nitrogen oxides (what is mentioned in the video) are not the same thing, I would like to clarify.. Also some amount of water vapor is essential for life (i.e. it turns in to rain) I highly doubt that the amount added via a car's catalytic converter pales in comparison to the water "vapor" produced by gigawatts of sunlight that bombards our oceans daily. Take it from a biotech major, this technology obviously isn't going to solve a lot of problems, but...
@expdh1 but... its a step in the right direction. Technology doesnt just advance in one leap, it takes many small steps to get to a better tomorrow. Green technology is full of many fallacies, but it should not be abandoned just because of a few bad apples.
