Relaxing our gun laws in this country would be a DISASTER. Right now parts of the country are facing a huge crisis in knife crime do you really advocate adding to that problem by MASS arming the population?
Last year there was under 1000 murders in England and Wales, only around 50 of them were with firearms. We have a population of 50 million. Compare that to the USA (300 Mil) where most Americans own guns
Over 16,000 murders MOST with firearms. You are 3 times more likely to be killed there

2. all the 16,000 deaths through guns are a total amount of deaths in the usa for example a cop shooting dead a bank robber for example goes into the list

1) Whilst i accept the vast majority of right to carry permits do not break the law, some permits are revolked because they commit crime involving a firearm, so do not claim it is "NOT ONE".
2) The 16,000 is a figure on manslaughter / murder and does not include suicide for example. How many people were shot and killed by American police in a year?
57 U.S police were shot dead in 2004. Only 2 police in the UK died of knife attacks, none shot dead in 2004. Despite all US police being armed

3)I dont know where you get your 99.9% from but there are plenty examples where legally owned firearms have been used in crimes, they may not be a large % of the numbers killed but its still too high for my liking
4)"saved someones life" is very debatable. A few months ago a man in texas was cleared of shooting dead two criminals running away from a neighbours house. Some may claim he was acting in self defense, thats not what i consider defense

Now back then there was good reason for gun ownership. They were worried about invasion and occupation by other countries and concerned about a powerful federal government which might take away state rights.. times and things have changed

So some have rocket launchers, some have old rifles.. it would be a bit like the USA vs the insurgency in Afghanistan or Iraq. Insurgents with weapons are a pain in the ass and cost alot of lives but they really do stand no chance long term against a fully funded and well armed military with complete air power.
