Well, I think it's a GREAT idea! Can a few things be tweaked? Of course. But the idea of using such a small amount of fuel and recycled old cans to make a "stove" is really quite neat!
Nice try but the steak its burned , probably it's ok for people who live in buildings probably, but practical mm, thank you for doing your best effort..
this guy is a dumb s-h-i-t cooking a steak 10 minutes that close to the flame .OMG mmmmmmmmm burnt cutting the MEMBRAIN/ steak to make it lay flat??? I did over cook the steaks, they were very well done, but there was no creosote or soot! There is no visible smoke and the flames do not lap the meat because of the short flame pattern. I have not grilled over charcoal since I designed this cooker. I also cook chicken and fish on the wood fired grill, as well as hamburger.
The next wood fired grill will have a generation burner. LannyPlans
Thank you for such wonderful videos of stoves and cooking with them. My 2 boys are 8 and 10, and helping me build these stoves. That way they can be self sufficent one day. Keep up the great work, looking forward to more videos. Thanks
You can wrap the steaks in aluminium paper... It helps to get a perfect cook. Two minutes before it´s done, you take out the aluminium just to finish without burn.
Good effort, but the best way to cook meats is without flames, slowly and being able to control the distance between the grill and the charcoal. With your little invention, none of that is possible I'm afraid.
Thank you for your comment, I can understand your skepticism. Cooking over wood flames is breaking the rules but it dose work very well. As a matter of fact, of all my designs the Wood Fired Grill is the one I use the most. I have been using it about once a week for a year and one half. It is faster, easier and cleaner that cooking over charcoal. My system drips the grease away from the fire for a roasted flavor, which I now prefer. I am worried about the products of incomplete combustion.
Hi Lanny, I've been grilling steaks for several decades and never cooked a really good one til I started cooking on a grill pan. Your steaks were burned on the outside and not cooked on the inside.
If you want to grill wonderful, juicy, tender meat, watch my "cooking on the rocket stove" vids. JanetinTenn
Could a version of this burner be made so that it was possible to recharge the burner during operation for a far longer burn duration?,reason I ask is that one or two of these burners running a steam boiler would be more efficient than having a large fire under the boiler. The steam being used for generation or driving machinery.
Lanny, those two steaks in Britain would cost about $100 for the two,no joke, and by the time you had cooked them you would have a gallon of fat, tons of steam coming off and the steaks would be 1/3rd the size they started out at.This is because all meat here is hypodermically injected with water, vitamins, extra protiens and preservatives, when cooking starts all this stuff boils and exits the thousands of tiny needle holes from the injection proc. They also inject all this water to treble the weight.
Very interesting for such a low use of fuel, You could very easily modify your draft ring to fit a wok.. which is a great tool for cooking quickly with very little fuel. The chinese have been doing that for centuries..
Great idea. Can I suggest a modification that would make them more efficent. Since heat rises you are loosing a lot of heat out of the uncovers top. If you had a top cover that vented slightly you would trap more heat and have more reflected heat from the metal. The food would cook faster and use less fuel. IMHO.
Since you are keeping the drips away from the fire, is it possible to use the fat caught in the drip pans either for cooking or for later use as your accelerator in starting the next fire? Tallow may not be as combustible as wax as from the candle, but what's not eaten can burn.
Lanny, I'm new here in search of plans for a small 1.5 garage wood burner.?. Any ideas other than the single or double barrell's? The least amount of ventalation and smoke is what I'm looking for? tj from Indiana.

You want to make sure the candle wax is burned away BEFORE cooking any food over it.

There is no visible smoke and the flames do not lap the meat because of the short flame pattern. The combustion from the wood is mostly complete.
When fat drips on hot charcoal you get incomplete combustion, and all kind of nasty compounds, along with the charcoal grilled flavor.
That is why I think the Wood Fired Grill is more healthy than charcoal and gas grills. LannyPlans
